The sides of the canoe fit into a slot cut into the blocks. The cannoo is then secured in the vehicle. The idea behind the blocks is that the rubber protects the car by preventing the canoe from scratching the paint and reducing the risk of slippage.
Thank you for taking the time to contact us. The package contains four blocks.
I'm not sure how much weight it can carry, but it hauled my 16' fiberglass canoe just fine. I hope this information is useful.

This kit includes everything you'll need to secure a canoe to a vehicle, and it works flawlessly. My only gripe is with the straps that secure the boat's front and back ends. The ones provided, like most straps, are made up of two parts: One has a hook on one end and a clamping mechanism on the other, and the other has a hook on one end but no clamping mechanism. The free end of the second segment fits into the clamp of the first, and the total effective length can be adjusted. br>br>The issue I'm having is that the hook-up method isn't working. The clamping segment is excessively long. To attach the front of my boat to attachment points under my car's hood, I only needed a short length of strap. Due to the hook-up I couldn't shorten the total length of the clamp segment to tighten the strap because it was too long. Fortunately, I had a backup plan. I didn't have any of the right-sized straps on hand, so I had to get creative. br>br>Many vehicles have attachment points that are far enough away from the front of the canoe that the aforementioned issue won't be an issue. Just keep in mind that there's a limit to how long the straps can be. (I didn't measure it, but I estimate it to be around 6 feet. ).
I took a canoe from Maine to Jersey on top of my Jeep Wrangler, and it still works after a few small trips.
This device can be difficult to use unless your boat/canoe is extremely light. Once the boat is affixed to the roof and the foam blocks have been installed, When the straps are tightened, it creates a very secure environment. a safe mount The center strap that came with the package was far too short. I had no choice but to make do with what I had, which was a similar, longer strap.
The canoe kit was purchased to go with our Jeep Laredo's existing luggage rack, but the foam blocks were too short. However, we kept the kit because the tie downs are of good quality, and we figured we could use the foam blocks on a car without racks at a later date. Before relying on the name "Universal," I would recommend measuring the blocks against what you already have.
We had exactly what we needed to transport our 14-year-old daughter. On our Toyota Highlander, we have a 5-foot canoe. This is a very solid setup. This is enough to get you across the country!.
I used the kit to load our canoe (oldtown camper) onto the roof of our Buick and drove for two hours on the highway without incident.
My canoe is safe and secure on the roof thanks to the roof top protection and carrier. The straps are long enough to be used in a variety of hold-down positions. This bag is ideal for storing items.
We used it for a multi-hour trip. It has a textured, non-slip surface. The bottom has a glued-on skid surface. Each foam block has two strips glued to the bottom, for a total of eight strips. When we first used it, one of them came off. Two more are on their way out. The foam has a couple of minor blemishes. I believe it will last for many trips, but the textured strips glued to the bottom may not. Hopefully, the foam blocks will suffice in their absence.
