Questions & Answers

Is it possible to secure the foam block on top of the car with a strap?

Yes, the three small holes on the side in the photo are a strap channel, and the bottom is slit in such a way that you could also slide the block onto an existing roof rack. I mounted the blocks on a large metal shelf bracket attached to the wall of my carport to store the kayak, and I used that strap channel and bottom slit to do so. Then I slide the blocks off the shelf bracket and into the bed of my pickup to cradle the kayak for transport; they have a texture on the bottom that keeps them in place under the weight of the kayak, but a strap through the block on a smooth car roof would be a better option.

Will this work with the Xsporter pro bars from Thule?

Don't throw your money away. They crap on the ground and roll over. Find a good kayak carrier with your money. You'll be a lot more content.

Is it possible for the tracrac tracone crossbarr to pass through this block? I'm worried that there won't be enough extra foam to hollow out the crossbar. ?

There isn't enough to go around. It only just opens up enough to wrap around the outside. This foam is too big for the TracOne crossbar. I'm using it, but I would have looked for something else if I had known that before purchasing it.

Is this foam compatible with my perception access 11? Is it possible to get a 5-foot kayak?

I have two of these, and I've used them to transport my 16-foot perception Shadow and 12-foot SOT. In the last four years, I've never had a problem. I mount them to my roof rack crossbars, secure my tie downs, and then mount my kayak. We lift two kayaks onto the roof if I'm carrying two kayaks. The SOT measures approximately 28 inches in length. The shadow is approximately 22 inches wide and 22 inches long. The foam carriers are both functional and cost-effective.

The phone in the advertisement is shown at an incorrect angle
3/5

This is the 16-inch version. I assumed they sent me the wrong one because it has a shallow cradle angle, similar to the 14" picture model sold on Amazon. The picture for the 16" model, which I ordered, shows it to be almost in the shape of a big U or V. This one is dangerously close to being flat. The company should update their old photo to reflect the shallow angle of this situation. I have a sea canoe, and I wanted it to cradle it rather than sit on a nearly flat sponge. The phone is quite sturdy, so it would have been ideal if they had made it with the steep pitch angle seen in the advertisements. As a result, you will not receive what is depicted in the image. It's a pity that we have to return yet another item.

There's no need to worry if you don't have a roof rack
5/5

I needed to find a way to transport my kayak because my new car did not have a roof rack. These foam blocks are exactly what you need! I was worried that they wouldn't give the kayak enough lift to clear the car's antenna, but they do just fine, and even better, I strap them to the car first with one set of straps, then place the kayak on top, and finally strap the kayak down. It's easier for me to load the kayak myself if I strap the blocks down first. There's no reason to be depressed about the lack of a roof rack. These blocks are capable of completing the task at hand.

Once installed, it performs admirably
3/5

It's not a good deal. I only use these foam blocks to transport my kayak around town; I haven't tried them for travel on highways with higher speed limits, so I can't comment on their suitability. br>The blocks are simple to set up, though you may need to adjust them after loading your kayak or canoe because they tend to flop over or shift. Even so, when compared to rigid kayak carriers, these are more convenient to use for initial kayak loading.
FWIW: My vehicle is a Toyota Rav4 equipped with a roof rack and Malone crossbars. These foam blocks are what I use to transport my Dagger Zydeco 9-foot kayak. If you do not have a roof rack with cross bars, I would not recommend using these foam blocks (or any foam blocks). To hold your kayak securely, you'll need to tighten your straps, and I'm afraid you'll dent or scratch the roof of your car if you don't have cross bars. br>I think they're overpriced, but I think that's true of almost all foam blocks (the ones designed for kayaks and canoes) you'll find online or in stores. It's a less expensive alternative to more substantial kayak carriers, and it'll suffice if all you're doing is transporting your kayak to a nearby lake or stream.

The description is deceptive
3/5

This item's description lists three different strap-equipped kits based on size. br>br>When ordering, there were three sizes to choose from: 14", 16", and 22". br>br>A reasonable person would assume that the three kits listed in the description correspond to the three sizes listed in the item. This isn't the case at all. This isn't a kit, so don't expect it to come with everything you need Only the two foam blocks are included; the straps are not included.

Good quality and a good price
4/5

I haven't used these to haul kayaks yet, but they appear to be quite capable. br>br>We mounted them on the Jeep Grand Cherokee's roof rack. br>I've received a few reports of them falling off due to the bottom slot. br>So each of them got three crosswise strips of strong black duct tape, one at each end and one in the middle that wrapped around and back across itself. With the slot in place on the bar, this kept it closed. Then, for the full length of the slot, a lengthwise strip is applied. It takes a lot of force to move them. br>br>After I did this for each one, it showed no signs of wanting to "roll" off the bar. It takes a good solid shove and does not wiggle, only giving a small amount of movement. br>br>I like how firm the foam is; it should provide a kayak with a lot of solid support without making it mushy. br>br>I'll try to keep you updated once I've had the opportunity to haul with them. But, for the time being, I'm very pleased with my purchase.

It's incredibly simple to use, store, and set up
5/5

Because the bars on my BMW roof rack are wide and oval in shape, the number of foam cradles I can use is limited. These fit over the BMW bars, go on lickety split, come off easily when it's time, and the kayaks can be securely strapped down so they don't budge. I liked them so much that I purchased a second set to use when loading two yaks. Even when they were sold out, I waited.

Both the appearance and the functionality are important
5/5

Because of the overabundance of engineered and over-engineered These little foam pads are one of the most reasonably priced racks on the market, and they do the job. I needed to load two kayaks onto my Saturn VUE, but I couldn't justify spending nearly as much on the rack as I could on the kayaks! Bingo! There are two of them. side-by- side, a couple of 12' nylon belts on my car's roof racks (one pair for each boat), and some bungee chords bow and stern, and "Voila!" "Portaging for one or two kayaks that is safe, convenient, and inexpensive. PS: If the boats will be on the car roof for an extended period of time, try to position them hull-first. to keep them from being flooded by rain! PPS: Years ago, there was a brand of foam pads called "BONZ" that were in the shape of a bone. They were ideal for stacking a kayak on top of another kayak or a canoe. I'd be thrilled if they became available once more!.

It's ideal for kayaks with a lot of volume
5/5

They complement my apex ladder rack perfectly. Once I strap the kayaks down, they stay in place very well. The form appears to be of good construction and should last a long time. I've taken two long road trips with them and they've performed admirably. They have a five-star rating in my book.
