I purchased a similar setup, and the foam blocks eliminate the need for roof racks, but do you have a place where the hooks on the tie-downs can be applied? straps that go down? Because I have a roof rack, the tie-downs are unnecessary for me. There were no problems with the downs.

So far, I've only paddled about 15 miles, but I believe I'll be able to safely paddle about 350 miles before long (hopefully in warmer weather). To feel safer, I'll drive on two-lane 55 mph highways rather than the interstate system. The foam blocks would probably not last very long, but that is not my plan, and new blocks without the straps are available for a reasonable price. My 2012 Chevy Impala couldn't use the two front straps because the metal hooks were too big to grab the engine's front sub-frame. frame. I could have bent the hooks to make them fit my car, but I already had a pair of straps that worked perfectly. The 18-foot center strap was long enough to wrap around the canoe and the car's roof with room to spare (though the Impala is a large vehicle). Unlike some other reviewers, I think the provided straps are well-made.
Four stars because there are no instructions included, but after about 40 minutes of effort, we were able to get the kit to work very well.
Not two, but eighteen feet of strap. It is stated on the website that it comes with two (2) But don't believe it. It's an 18' strap with a cam buckle. There is only 1 included. The strap is 18' long and has a cam buckle. I was counting on that second strap to secure my canoe, but now I'll have to return it or use another strap I already own. The items appeared to be of good quality, but I'm still disappointed about the missing strap promised in the listing.
I made a couple of permanent changes to make it fit my car perfectly. Even at highway speeds, it's perfect. I use this on a 16' canoe that isn't exactly light, but the blocks fit and ride great. It completely secures the canoe and protects my ride. This was without a doubt the best investment I could have made. On the rivers, we'll see you.
These were perfect for our tiny car (which didn't have a rack) and a large canoe. We had no problems driving to the boundary waters from Minneapolis; the straps can be noisy in the wind, but they kept the canoe very secure.
He likes it a lot! This carrier has been used with my son's canoe several times and he enjoys it. The styrafoam blocks, as well as the side clamps and hooks, do an excellent job of protecting the roof from scratches. For added stability, he uses a standard rope tie down to the bumper on both the rear and front bumpers.
To transport my Bell canoe, I don't have a luggage rack on the roof of my VW Tiguan. These are excellent for tying down because they are simple and strong.
