When TOPO v1 came out, I had it
3/5

This was my first time using it and I was happy with the results. To upgrade to v5, I downloaded it from the internet. My new eTreck Legend C model came with a DVD disk (version 5) only to discover that it was The USB interface is not supported by 0. USB has been around for how long? uses serial ports for all uploads and downloads. I am very disappointed not only at spending $90 on this useless product, but also to spend this much money on a useless product. The TOPO v5 software has been released. O has some very good features and could be a very useful program, but there is a need for developers to implement newer technology with the newer versions of the program. There ought to be a patch available from Delorme on their website which will resolve this problem, but unfortunately not. One will need to buy a USB to serial adapter in order to get this thing to communicate. Or, to put it another way, it's kind of like buying a new Corvette only to find out you can drive it on a road with a speed limit of 15 mph. It is unproductive. Fortunately, I think you should rethink the location of Delorme. The new GPS devices are moving to USB and the company is about to go out of business as a result of better technology and competitive A mere two cents from me.

Those who hike Ignore the other reviews and focus on this one
5/5

It seems that a majority of people who have reviewed this software on Amazon had purchased the program for the wrong purpose or didn't know very much about it. There is no doubt about it Topo USA is meant for hikers. As you say, there are other possible uses, and I have no problem with the fact such as fisherman or hunters may In the end, those activities involve hikes as well. The topographical map of the USA certainly isn't intended to replace the navigation system in a car- This thing can't connect to your laptop and be used in a busy intersection it certainly isn't the right product. Get started on a different one. For that, you need a dashboard system. Professional engineers can use Topo USA for designing new roads and bridges, but they are not required to use it. Topo USA is designed to show you the trails that are out there, or to assist you in creating your own trails, and it does a great job of doing that. On the other hand, if you want to create maps from your hikes, or simply make plans prior to your hikes, this is a great product.

What Topo USA does better than anything else is create maps from your handheld GPS data. It's not the best option for this to use the EarthMate. Garmin eTrex Summit - I use this device myself and my data is good enough for my hiking web site, HikePA, to make online maps. Please contact us. you're looking for an easy way to plan out any hiking you're going to do recreationally, this is the tool for you. Those who give negative reviews for the product are all trying to get it to do something it's not designed to do. Read the other reviews here for evidence of this. Those who want to defy the state are the ones who want to defy the state They love to go off road in their yuppie SUV when they need a Jeep.

Alternatives for the average backwoods man are quite numerous in the 21st century, as there are many topographical software packages to choose from
3/5

In the industry, the USGS Topos on paper and digitized is the industry standard. When a product is as high-quality as the USGS 7, it's worth the price. A five-minute topo is provided in an all-in-one format I'd call it good if the source is correct. There are better options available, but this one does not cut it. Consultations on erosion mitigation are part of what I do. We were asked by some of the folks I work for to provide Delorme with an overlay of their streets and lots, so that they could include the five-year old development on the next upgrade of Street Atlas USA, which was not available in 2005. My execution was dreadful since they bought this and asked me to do the There are problems with the mapping, the functions are awkward, and the Earthmate receiver is temperamental. Don't waste time looking at this one, do some research and you'll find a good receiver, good software, and support people who will give you a hand if you need it. Dorme doesn't even provide email addresses in case you want to get in touch outside of the website. That makes it incredibly easy for them to ignore you.

Incidentally, Delorme has not officially supported the Earthmate receiver for 3rd party software. It's completely absurd, but there is a damn good reason why they do not.

This is definitely something I like a lot
5/5

The program I like the most is this one, because I love maps and this keeps me entertained for a long time A better gaming experience than any computer program! A simple and intuitive interface eliminates the need to read lengthy manuals, and it provides screen tips as you work. This program is also very practical, and I use it to plan every aspect of my visit to the USA, from interstate routes Having the ability to actually determine the road speed when calculating how many miles you can do in a day is very useful, allowing you to take into account the California speed limits and, if you're hiking, the trail conditions according to the pace of the hike. Having the option to choose metric units, which I prefer, is an added plus. A particular focus is the 3 If I want to plan hiking trails, using this functionality is very useful for getting an intuitive sense of elevation changes as well as if I want to go on an interesting trail. In addition to their wonderful print quality, the maps are also available to download as an image file and also to print on paper. Now I can produce my own little personalised holiday road atlas and
And although it is true that roads are sometimes wrong, I can only say I have seen a road on every single map of South Dakota (Mapquest, Live Local, etc. ) I have seen that actually does not exist - it is called "Family Road" No one at DeLorme should be held accountable for such small changes. If people report these little changes instead of complaining, then they can be corrected on the Because I don't use a GPS device myself, I am unable to comment on the GPS compatibility. The ADP option is, all in all, a very affordable and functional option that, by purchasing ADPs, allows you to build up a quad library as you go.
