I find it difficult to answer this question. It is difficult for me to speak good English because I am French. It is my pleasure to present to you the NGM paper collection that I have owned since July 1946, which makes me younger than you (72 years old). You don't need to be afraid if you have a laptop that runs Windows 7 because it's very easy to install and use. Unless not, it's a waste of time. As a result, the NGS is selling it for a very low price so they won't have any problems selling The third edition of this work will not

Real is not the same thing as a substitute
4/5

It is still better to have them than not to have Several weeks ago I was searching for something in the kitchen cabinet and found one I hadn't opened for decades. When I was clearing out (so that's where the old Christmas lights were) I located a cache of old National Geographic magazines (1980's). After I finished reading them, I sat down for the afternoon to do some more. It brought two things to my attention There are two reasons one, I enjoy reading old issues of the magazine, and two, I own a lot of junk that I can get rid of. As a result, I went on Amazon and looked to see if I could buy a complete set of the magazine. It sounded like the best of both worlds to me. In the last week, I received the box set at the post office and installed it this Share with us an experience you've had. To install the contents of the DVDs to my computer's hard drive, I spent a total of ten hours. According to the instructions, it can take 45 minutes to an hour. On each disc you will find 90 minutes of music Although I thought my big bad computer could do it in a much shorter amount of time (apparently it can't). You will be required to install Adobe Air before you can do the installation, or you may already have it installed if you already have it. (This was the case with my computer) The purpose of this step is to determine whether it needs to be updated. There's a program called Adobe Air that runs other programs. A magazine database like this one would be great. When the magazine was installed, I checked for any updates. There were a few, but to access some of them you need to register with National Geographic. I usually don't mind registering, but this website required not only my email address but also my phone number (I created an account anyway). Having the ability to read issues from way back when is fascinating to me (the old advertisements fascinate me!). I am generally impressed with the magazine database. The quality of some images / photographs / maps / graphics did not impress me. Watermarking is very common on a lot of them - they seem to have some sort of array of dots, which really ruins them. The number of some is greater than the number of others. The problem is not just with the images there is also some sort of blotching on some of the pages of text There are usually just a few around the edge. This particular problem affects Samsung) and these problems tend to be more pronounced.

Another concern I have is with the large maps that typically are enclosed with the magazines. These maps are also reproduced on this website, but at a much smaller A virtual loupe can help you magnify portions of the image, but the area of the image under the loupe is small, and the magnification is only 2x at best. Many of the maps I looked at featured trees in their landscapes. Despite the lack of text, you couldn't read any of it. Therefore, the collection is far from perfect and while I am glad to have it, it is far from perfect, which is why it gets four diamonds You have been given four instead of five stars.

I found the optical scanning of it to be subpar, and the interface is cumbersome
3/5

I mean, who can resist 125 years of National Geographic in all their glory? It's the paper publications in all their glory. The collection falls short of two things in two important As a first point, the quality of the optical scanning is poor in the sense that it does not scale up even when keeping the Because of this, it's very difficult to read the magazine pages at their rendered size except on very large monitors (think 23" or larger, preferably bigger than that), and if you stretch the pages, they blur quickly. These photos were not scanned at a higher resolution, which frankly baffles me. There is also a problem with Products like this are typical of their kind It is very slow and clunky to navigate through the website. This is a good buy, but with just a little more effort, it could have been so much better.

A complete waste of time
3/5

Although it would have been better not to buy it, I did. As much as I hated NatGeo selling out to Murdoch, I had no problem with it. However, since these magazines were sold before the sell out, I decided to buy them I cannot believe how much money was wasted. There is no adware on my computer yet, but I don't seem to be able to load magazines. Despite a prompt to install Adobe Air, the program installs without issue. However, it states that CNG is being installed. Following that, the CNG will actually be installed. That was a bad bit of programming. On my computer (running Win7), I chose to download the magazines onto my machine. To not have them scratched by constant switching out, they were to be not swapped out frequently. A big surprise awaited me. They declined to install the software. There was a continual request for disc #1 On Disc 1, there are the following years (shown in the upper right hand corner next to Exit, so it is easily seen! 2010-2015), disc 7 has It's been a while since I've seen any Having checked for updates, I have the most current version of the My check for content updates was successful. I now have to enter disc 1 1953 - 1958 after creating an account and installing the Free Content Update At this point, I also discovered I was required to purchase the magazines for 2011 and 2012. Because they were on disc 7, I had to purchase them as well. I then repeated all that BS on my laptop, which runs Windows 10. I considered this a mark of masochism! What happened was the same as the last time. The worst part is, I can't even No uninstaller is available, nor does it appear in the list of installed programs. I am able to uninstall Adobe Air, although CNG is not available. For the removal of this, I will have to roll my system back. This isn't the surprise gift I expected.
