Microsoft Word was a pain to use, and Technical Support was rarely helpful. Today, I come across people who are unable to format their documents using Microsoft Word. Nothing appears to have changed in this respect. br>Learning to format documents and much more is simple in WordPerfect; the company's early founders dropped the ball, but they were apparently unconcerned because they had become extremely wealthy. Corel isn't exactly helpful, but they haven't completely ruined the best word processor on the market.

After being disconnected from tech support a total of ten times, email support was nothing more than the original how-to video. I'm sure it's a simple fix if I could just get some help, but I can't find any. I am, by the way, a computer whiz. This isn't a problem with the user. I finally gave up waiting for Corel support and installed a fresh copy of Windows on the laptop, which allowed me to install the program. I originally gave it one star because of the installation issues, but I've since changed my mind and given it three stars because it works perfectly once it's installed. Be cautious if you don't know how to use computers.

I've been using WordPerfect for a long time and find it to be far superior to the other major commercial office suites on the market. It may not be the most popular, but it performs admirably and continues to meet my needs. In a crowded market, the question is whether this suite is still worth the money, especially since there are alternatives that are completely free to download and compete quite well. WordPerfect, in my opinion, is still a viable contender and worthy of consideration. It's far from perfect, but it gets a lot of things right. br>br>This suite consists of four parts, plus an additional application as a bonus. WordPerfect was the dominant word processor in the DOS world, and while it is no longer as popular as it once was, it is still supported, updated, and capable of producing professional results. Quattro Pro is a spreadsheet that can do a lot of things. Presentations is a tool for creating slideshows that is very similar to PowerPoint. Lightning is the suite's oddball app, behaving like a super-charged clipboard or notebook. Finally, Corel AfterShot is a tool for processing RAW photo files. I'll speak to each of them individually. br>br>WordPerfect is the suite's star, as it is a lightning-fast, feature-rich word processor. It's a capable word processor that competes well with most others on the market, and it has a few unique features that you won't find anywhere else. One of the most useful features is the Reveal Codes feature, which allows you to see (and change) the formatting codes used by a document. If you can't figure out what's wrong with a document format, you might be able to find it in Reveal Codes mode and fix it there. br>br>WordPerfect supports a wide range of document formats and can open and export them. One of the biggest selling points is the format support, but it's also a flaw because in many cases, the imports almost work but have some oddities and weirdness (which can be fixed but takes time). The ODT format, which allows me to move between Windows and Linux, is one that I use frequently, and almost every time the document appears to be correct but contains a number of strange codes and mark-up. Symbols that need to be noticed should be highlighted. These do not go away when you save in WordPerfect's native format. As they migrate to the new format, they will need to be addressed. Simply deleting the symbols is inconvenient because it can cause the document's content to be messed up. While it can import a variety of formats, I'm occasionally surprised by the ones that aren't; Support for multiple versions of Ami Pro, for example, is available, but not for WordPro, which is its successor. br>br>As a spreadsheet, Quadtro Pro is a strong competitor. It's one of the fastest spreadsheet programs I've ever used, and it has one of the most well-designed user interfaces I've ever seen. It easily imports and exports a variety of formats, including XLSX and 123 files, with few or no issues; however, it cannot import or export ODS files (Open Document Spreadsheet format), which is a major flaw for interoperability and sharing. br>br>Presentations is Corel's answer to PowerPoint, and it easily imports and exports PPTX files, though it does not support ODP files (which is also a major interoperability flaw). I've seen the occasional font size issue when importing PPTX files, but that's about it, and it's very easy to fix. If you're used to working with PowerPoint, Presentations will come as a shock because it bears little resemblance and has a completely different interface. The editor and panel arrangement areas are each in their own full-screen environment. They can't be viewed at the same time because of the client tabs. The slide outliner (separate tab) on the other hand, gives you access to the contents of the slides in a notepaper-like format. Most other slide show applications provide a formatted type of list that can be edited and tweaked for fine control, but this one differs (and is a little more straightforward). br>br>There are some similarities between all three of these programs. The interfaces are simple, uncluttered, and generally simple to understand and use, with the default toolbars providing access to the most important functions and capabilities. These programs get up and running quickly - quicker than the majority of their rivals - and have everything they need to get started right away. They all support PDF export, which is a standard feature in most office programs but isn't always well implemented. When working with PDF documents that contain embedded graphics, the export is far superior to the import in these applications. Microsoft-based software is supported. Specific formats perform much better, with a high level of accuracy in the vast majority of cases (minor font and spacing quirks are the most common adjustments). br>br>Lightning is a peculiar creature. It functions similarly to a scrapbook app, allowing you to add and remove content, open and view documents, and create and manage notebooks. It has a OneNote or EverNote-like feel to it. This is a useful app for bringing together information from various sources in one place, allowing you to organize and categorize your notes and documents. It does not, however, provide direct access to the Windows clipboard. br>br>AfterShot 3, Corel's RAW photo editor, is included in the suite. This editor differs from other editors in that it focuses on RAW formats for various manufacturers. My camera's format is supported, and as a result, it works with the files produced by my camera. It can perform the types of edits you'd expect from a generic photo editor, but it can also apply a wide range of presets and effects via plug-ins. ins. However, keep in mind that only a few of the plug-ins are available in English. The fact that the ins are not included and must be purchased is a turn-off for me. br>br>The most significant flaw in this suite, in my opinion, is its complete lack of Linux support; most other suites offer a Linux version of their software, but Corel does not. br>br>So, why pay for a suite like this when you can get a full suite for free or pay less for a 365 version of the most popular suite? In the case of the free suite, Corel backs up their product and can be reached by phone or email if something goes wrong. This is a requirement in some situations, and using a community-based solution is a good way to do it. Because of policy, using a supported suite is not allowed or feasible. Sure, you pay less up front for 365 suites, but once your subscription period expires, you lose access to the software and may not be able to access your documents if they're in the suite's native format. Corel's pricing is competitive when compared to other full licenses. br>br>I like Corel's product and intend to use it on my Windows system. I wish they had better support for Open Document formats, and the PDF import is a little shaky, but I'm happy not to have the dominant suite on my system.

I'll make a bold prediction and say that one's likelihood of adoring or hating this office suite is largely determined by one's age. This suite will most likely be viewed as a welcome friend by those over 30, and an abomination by those under 30. While that may sound extreme, those who grew up using WordPerfect Office Suite instead of Google Docs will likely appreciate it the most, as its interface, visual elements, and level of formatting control differ significantly from Google Docs. br>br>The WordPerfect Suite is a throwback to the days of clunky, plain-looking software, and I found it to be an unwelcome reminder of those days. In the early 2000s, there were a lot of websites that looked like this. In terms of user interface, Google Docs outperforms it in every way. WordPerfect, on the other hand, is a far more powerful word processor than GoogleDocs, and I appreciated having more control over editing some of my longer documents with multiple chapters. I also had a lot of fun messing around with the formatting options because they were a good compromise between hyperbole and brevity. Adobe InDesign's brevity and the overabundance of information Google Docs is known for its ease of use. For the vast majority of people, Google Docs would probably suffice for taking notes, but I believe some professionals would prefer more control over the layout of documents they plan to publish or share publicly. br>br>Similarly, the suite's visual elements in Quattro and Presentations are out of date, and are easily outclassed by other options (such as those in the Google Suite), which are admittedly simpler but easier to learn and tolerate visually. While I don't mind using either of them, I can see how they might be useful in business or academic settings. Furthermore, because WordPerfect, Quattro, and Presentations all have similar interfaces that are strikingly similar to Microsoft Office in the early 2000s, anyone who first used Microsoft Office around that time would likely prefer them due to familiarity. Personally, I prefer Google's sleek interfaces in spreadsheets and presentations, but I'll keep WordPerfect in mind as a possible better option for longer pieces of writing like this one!.
