We like this dependable, easy-to-use Digital IR (Infrared) Surface Thermometer because it's a cost-effective way to ensure that the surface temperatures in your reptile's habitat are correct. There will be no suppositions, guesswork, or unpleasant surprises in the future. Carolina Designer Dragons, LLC owns and operates Carolina Custom Cages.

The temperature of your reptile's basking spot has a direct impact on his activity level, appetite, and ability to digest his food properly for proper nutrition. Many reptiles, such as bearded dragons, "thermogate," or move from a warm to a cool environment and back. Because they do not sweat like mammals, they are able to maintain the proper body temperature and remain comfortable in this manner. As a result, it's critical to understand the temperature of your habitat's cool area.

Bearded dragons require different basking spot temperatures depending on their age: 115 to 120 degrees for hatchlings to six months, 110 to 115 degrees for six months to one year, and 100 to 110 degrees for one year and older. The temperature in the cool side area should be around 80 degrees for all ages.

Some habitat "kits" include a thermometer that attaches to the habitat's side or uses a probe to measure temperature. These readings can be misleading because they are indicating the "air temperature," which can be 10 to 15 degrees different from the two important surface temperatures.

It's easy to use this Digital IR Surface Thermometer; simply point it at the surface you want to measure from a distance of 6 to 12 inches away. Measurement Range -58°F to approximately 572°F (-50°C to approximately 300°C) and Accuracy of ±2% The LCD backlight, auto power off after 10 seconds, and max/min functions are all included. Two AAA batteries are included, as well as directions.

Is there something wrong with this thermometer or am I using it incorrectly? My snake's temperature is listed as 45 degrees Fahrenheit, which I know isn't correct. ?

I'm not sure I'd recommend it

To get it to turn on, I had to jig the batteries around a lot. The batteries that came with the device made the screen spaz out, so I had to use my own. It doesn't appear to provide accurate readings, but I haven't found anything comparable. Because I'm using it to build a chameleon enclosure, having accurate readings is critical. I'm hoping the temperature is off, but I'll need to find a different way to verify accuracy. br>br>For the price, I'm not surprised by the quality; once I'm able to confirm that it's accurate, it'll get the job done!.

Excellent craftsmanship

It's fantastic! It does exactly what I need it to do. My bearded dragon tank is in it. Now, I'll admit that it reads lower when I point it at my children's or my own heads. That, however, I believe is acceptable.

This digital thermometer has exceeded my expectations. br>All you have to do is point it at the area in the turtle table (or wherever your reptiles are) and it will tell you what the temperature is there.
