It's just right! Exactly as stated. It was my intention to tweak it just a little bit. This, on the other hand, is an extremely well-made item. It turned out to be more difficult than I expected. But, for the time being, it fits with my hang-on-back filter after I cut the wire and bent the metal. I had a glass top at first, but I needed to cool the tank, which is impossible with glass. This was the ideal solution, and I'm already a big fan of it. I'm thinking about taking it somewhere and having the metal removed. Not sure.
Measure gallon tank according to directions, then choose lid size; measurements are off by an inch or so, but they do the job in terms of allowing me to turn on my heating lamps in time to provide my turtle with a light source to sunbathe.
Because of the dual-sided hinge design, I was particularly fond of this one. For feeding, I liked it a lot. I have no complaints, but if you just want a plain mesh lid, this is not the one to get. I'd often end up removing the entire lid anyway, so the design you choose may not matter all that much in the end. I suppose it's a matter of personal taste.
It's where I keep our mysterious snail breeding tank. It's quite substantial and heavy. Nothing is getting out of that tank, which is my favorite. The only problem is that it's made of metal, which will rust, and I have to keep a plastic cling on film in the tank to keep bugs out and create humidity for the snail egg clutches to hatch, so I'm forced to do it that way.
This cover was purchased to replace the screen top on my 10 gallon hermit crab tank, and it is a perfect fit. We got it because the Hermies like to hang from the mesh, making it difficult to open and add food or water. We can now add food without disturbing them by simply opening the opposite side of the cover. The only issue is that crossing the hinged area with an active Hermie who loves to hang from the top can be difficult. Overall, we had a couple of falls from this location, but it is fantastic.
What you pay for is exactly what you get. It's made of low-cost components. It was also bent and filthy when it arrived, but the box was undamaged, so I assume it was damaged in transit. I was able to rinse it and bend it back into shape enough to make it functional for my needs. I didn't think it was bad enough to return it, but I'm not sure I'll buy from this seller again.
They ask how the lock worked in the star review section. It does not come with a lock, but purchasing one is very simple.
Quilty's construction is actually quite good. To be honest, I was expecting a flimsy, questionable lid, but I was pleasantly surprised! It was well worth the expense.
