Questions & Answers
On my 40 gallon tank, I have one set. However, if your pet pushes the lid open, you'll need a backup set.
The package contains two of them.
I apologize for forgetting to double-check these when I returned home. The top portion measures 1 1/4 inches in diameter. The width of the front is 2 inches. Because my corn snakes are escape artists, I put two in the front and two in the back of my 40 gallon breeder tank. The top of the tank has a plastic band that is just under 2 inches wide. I'm not sure how to attach a photo to this post. I hope this information is useful!
I bought some of these last year for my 20 gallon long tank and they worked great; I recommend getting three packages (6 clips total), but four clips will suffice.

My cat is obsessed with the two gerbils that live in a 20 gallon tank with me. On top of the glass aquarium, there is a screen cover. I was afraid to leave her alone with them because she was rapidly learning to hit the top and move it. These Zilla Reptile Terrarium clips were purchased in two packs and have provided me with peace of mind. On each end of the tank cover, I placed one. They are very easy to put on and stay put once you have them on. I was worried that they'd be difficult to put on and take off (by a human) and that it'd be a pain every time I needed to change the bedding, feed, or pat the gerbils; thankfully, I press downwards and the clip easily pops off. It isn't nearly as challenging as I had anticipated. The clips are holding up well and haven't bent despite being worn on and off several times a day. Overall, I'm very pleased, and I'm relieved that I can now keep my gerbils safe from the cat. I also won't have to worry about the tank tipping over (it's a big tank, so it's unlikely to happen) and the top falling off!.
They're on Amazon for a great price, and I couldn't find them anywhere else! I wasn't sure if they'd work in my terrarium, but they do. They're adaptable while remaining incredibly durable. I'm confident that my ball python will not escape, and I won't have to stack books on top of her terrarium any longer!.
This is fantastic! They are in perfect working order. My only complaint (which I'm not sure is a complaint) is that they're difficult to remove from the tank. I have to pry them off with a butter knife every time I have to get into the tank (which is quite often considering it's for a hamster) and it's quite inconvenient, but if you have an escape artist or a stronger animal than a hamster to keep in, this would probably be a plus for you. I just wish there was a less super max version of these that was easier to remove, but other than that, they're fantastic! Putting it on is a breeze! But I'm glad these are only one piece, as opposed to the ones I got at Petco, which required two pieces for each side and the little tabs kept falling out, so these are definitely better made.
The great thing about these is that, despite being made of heavy-duty materials, they are lightweight. Even if the metal is heavy, it can be bent to some extent. These needed to be tweaked to fit my tank screen cover. On the one hand, the clip is functional and fits well. The other clip, however, does not quite catch the edge of the tank because the screen cover is just a smidgeon longer than the top of the tank on one end. This is primarily due to the screen cover's poor fit, but I felt it was worth noting. Overall, I'm pleased with these; I only need two of them to keep the screen cover in place, but I may purchase two more to ensure that the screen cover is secure. You may only need two clips if your tank is less than 10 gallons. I recommend purchasing four tanks for larger tanks.
For our ball python, we have a 30 gallon tank with four clips holding the lid on. I've never felt completely at ease with the clips, and he's a bully. We kept a lot of heavy things on there, but I wanted something that wouldn't sag the lid and was strong enough to keep him in. These were a great addition to the standard clips. I'm not concerned, and when I try to lift the lid (gently) with the clips in place, there's very little give.
I'll admit that the clips were damaged when the package arrived the first time, but they were quickly replaced. To attach a tank topper cage to my hamster's tank, I required replacement clips. (I threw away the original clips that came with the tank topper by accident. ) ) I was unable to locate a suitable replacement for the clips. I was concerned that if she attempted to escape by squeezing between the tank and the top cage, she would injure herself. Even though these clips were not designed to hold the cage topper in place, but rather to keep a cage lid secure, I was skeptical, but hopeful that they would work. The clips were inexpensive enough that it was worthwhile to give them a shot. It took a few tries (approximately 5 minutes) to get them to bend at the right angle and resistance, but it worked and continues to work without needing to be readjusted; It easily snaps into and out of the tank's edge. Every day, we clean the cage topper; It's been a few months, and these clips are still performing admirably. They were an excellent alternative because they are extremely strong, the price was reasonable, and most importantly, our Butterscotch is a happy, healthy, and secure hamster. ☺.
Nothing has ever gotten in or out of a gallon long tank standing on its side to hold up the screen cover, even with a cat intent on killing them (they're fine, don't worry). For my hornworm moths, I have two more holding up a screen cover on a 10 gallon on its side. They've also been used to keep a screen lid on a 20 gallon long lying normally for my corn snake in place. They've never let me down, and you can adjust the tightness and looseness as needed to ensure that they're secure. I'll definitely buy them again if I ever need them!.
I have a ball python, and he had previously escaped three times before I got these. He hasn't been able to leave the house in a long time. They're extremely simple to use, and the first set I purchased is still in excellent condition after several years of use. I'd get two sets (for a total of four clips) if you have a larger snake or tank. I have a skinny/long 55 gallon tank, and Optimus is a good medium-sized snake, so one clip on each end (in the middle) will suffice. However, you could do two on each side if you wanted to.
