Questions & Answers

Is there any way to prevent a cat from turning this tank into a betta buffet? I'm really interested in getting a Chi, but I'm worried about the open top. ?

On my tank, I have a chi cover. I noticed that there was less evaporation. Temperature is more consistent. My cat, on the other hand, treats my chi tank as his personal fountain, but he never tries to open the lid or eat the fish.

Is this a transparent or opaque cover?

It has a clear cover.

Is there supposed to be a slit on one end of this? Mine had one, as well as a sticker with a checkbox next to "damage set." Hmm?

On the back, there was an open slot where the filter arm could go, but it wasn't really a slit; perhaps the slit is the slot I'm referring to? Maybe it's something else entirely. Not sure.

Does it fit any of the fluvial Chi aquariums, such as mine, which is a 25L?

Yes, I believe it will be appropriate. On the internet, the dimensions are as follows: 10"x13", but my fluval chi is about 10"x10" and fits perfectly; I believe the top dimensions of the 25L are the same as the smaller aquariums like mine.

THIS IS A GOOD THING
4/5

I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of quality, but it had been on my Wish List for months and I finally purchased it. It has a notch cut out of one side for the original filter attachment, but since I'm using a Whisper 40i and two clip-on filters, I don't need that. I knew I'd have to change something when it came to reading LEDs from Ikea. I decided to remove one of the lights and attach the 40i to the clip of the remaining light. After some careful adjustments and modifications, the contraption fits perfectly in the cutout. I didn't want to cut up the lid or mount the lights behind the tank because I could make it work just fine the way it was, so I didn't. The tank serves as a humidifier and evening lamp in my bedroom, and it's mostly filled with java moss and pond snails, with some duckweed floating on top and two lily rhizomes that are just starting to grow, so it's fine with just one light. To keep the java moss out, I attached fine mesh to the 40i's intake, and the media is simply a large bag of BioMax. I needed to get the lid because I was losing water too quickly. I shaved two burrs off the inside cutout with a sharp knife, and everything is now perfect.

However, against the flat, it appears to be unappealing
3/5

It's a decent fit on the chi, but it has a few unflattering features. 1. br>br> The filter cube is surrounded by a large gap. As a result, evaporation remains a major issue, and there is a large gap for fish to escape through.
2. On the other hand, it leaves an insufficient gap around the back of the tank's filter mount. This small gap can be a problem if you need to run cables out there for a heater or extra lighting.
3. It isn't even close to being level. The plastic has a wavy appearance to it. It's most likely due to the manufacturing process, but it contrasts badly with the chi's flat, sharp lines.
4. On the underside, it's frosted, but on top, it's gleaming. For a variety of reasons, this is undesirable. Water splashed on the top leaves water spots, whereas if the frosted part was on top, no visible spots would be left. You can't mount suction cups on the underside, so if you need suction cups, you'll have to use the tank rather than the cover. Finally, the frosted appearance detracts from the chi's overall appearance. A completely transparent cover, in my opinion, would have been better.

Jump stopper is ineffective at preventing evaporation and must be cleaned
3/5

I adore my Fluval Chi, but, like many other Chi owners, my main complaint with the design is the high rate of water evaporation and, of course, the suicidal fish jumpers. The cover helps with the fish problem, and I haven't seen any fish or ghost shrimp outside the tank since I installed it. Unfortunately, evaporation is still a problem as it was before the cover was put on. I'm sure the cover helps a little, but it's hard to tell. What I do notice, however, is that these covers quickly become "gunky. " While the covers are very easy to clean with just a little water and elbow grease (but as high as sixteen! ), they are a weekly chore if you want to keep them looking nice. br>br>That being said, while I've seen the Chi drop in price as low as five to six dollars (but as high as sixteen! ), it is a weekly chore if you want to keep them looking nice. ), it still appears to be a bit pricey for what it is. If you don't mind a little DIY, you should be able to get your hands on some inexpensive polycarbonate or acrylic.

This is fantastic, but there's a catch
3/5

After my incredibly adorable baby dojo loach jumped out of its quarantine tank, the Fluval Chi 5, and died stiff, sad, and cold on the floor overnight, I went looking for a lid and found this. There is nothing I don't like about the lid. It does, however, raise one question: The original Fluval Chi 5 aquarium tank is quite expensive for an aesthetically pleasing but ultimately quite basic aquarium tank - many times the cost of a typical aquarium tank (approximately $1,500). Why couldn't/wouldn't Hagen include this lid with the tank setup in the first place, even if a simple filter is included for $1 per gallon? Many lives have been lost as a result, according to what I've read. I suppose we're the ones who are stupid (re: I, as a customer. If Hagen truly cares, add the lid to your product line-up going forward; you can still sell it as a part-replacement - Correct your error while also gaining consumer goodwill.

It'd taken a long time for them to figure it out
3/5

This item was purchased for my Fluval Chi aquarium in order to reduce the amount of space where my fish could jump out. However, because I no longer use the Chi filter (because it's garbage) and have replaced it with another filter, there is still a large square for my fish to jump out of - I knew this going in, but I went ahead and bought it anyway, because why not save $5 and give my fish more room to jump? The thing looks nice, and I'm sure it'd look even better with the Chi filter (if I still had one). The disadvantage is that it rattles and is noisy from time to time. The sounds at the top of my aquarium amplify and channel out through the empty square space because I no longer use the Chi filter box, but they aren't loud enough for me to ignore. br>I'll probably find something to fill in the center square, but for now, I'm glad my fish aren't jumping. With this crappily-designed system, I've had plenty of fish suicides. tank that has been designed Three stars because Fluval took so long to release this, and I've already lost ten fish to jumps.

A very nice tank cover- My Chi tank is in my office at work, but it isn't completely effective
4/5

My betta has no qualms about jumping out the window. I bought the tank top to keep the water from evaporating too quickly, which is a major issue when I stay home for two days over the weekend. It might help a little, but it's not the change I was hoping for. It's made of a tough plastic that blends in with the tank's design. It does protrude slightly beyond the top edge of the tank, as one reviewer pointed out, but this is barely noticeable. Of course, the tank must be completely empty before water can be added. (Without removing the cover, I can drop his food into the gap between the top and the central pump. ) ) I'm mostly happy with it, but there are two minor issues. (1) For the top of the pump, I have a plastic "plant" from Flugal (it looks like a chia: )) and getting the cover off and on over it takes some finesse. (2) Because I have a heater in the tank and no provision for the cord, one of the back corners of my cover does not sit completely flat on the tank top. This is likely one of the reasons for its ineffectiveness in preventing evaporation.
