It should release from the velcro if it gets caught on something as your horse pulls back. He is a master when it comes to getting off his masks
In short, yes. The mesh part makes it difficult to machine wash. I let it hang dry due to the mesh part.

Florida is home to many mosquitoes, so I need to watch out for them. Although I'm not sure why my mask did not come with the nose guard, I can't seem to find it on Amazon. Despite the pouches' stretchable nature, if your horse has a large jaw - you may need to adjust the straps. As with anything larger than slightly over average, the underside of this type of boat closes poorly. In reality, only a half inch of velcro closes the bottom which is not enough for it to stay on properly It is not a big head on my mare either. Specifically, the area behind her ears is the warmest, and she sweats quite a bit. Until I find the perfect mask, I will continue searching.
The number of masks I've owned over the years is quite large. You can see their eyes through the mask, and it has good sturdiness. The mask seems to keep moisture in, so I do not experience the moldy odor I have experienced.
A nice design and good materials, but it is a bit on the small side. My fifteenth birthday is coming up, so I got it. He is a 2hh mustang gelding, and it did not fit. All of my horses were unable to wear it. If I were to guess, I'd say this would work best for a smaller quarter horse.
The mask I got for my horse Hank was great. Because he is an expert at losing them while in the field, I did not expect it to last long. It has lasted the longest out of any other mask I have purchased. This is a highly recommended product.
It's hard for them to rub it off, so it works against flies as well.
According to this fly mask, it is a medium size or cob size. Two of them were purchased for my small quarter horses, and they are huge. The size of the horses is definitely not a cob/medium horse, but rather a large horse (warmblood or draft). I am very disappointed that they are represented as mediums or cobs.
While this mask looks decent, it is much larger than a draft horse mask as quarter horse is a standard size. I had to send the package.
