Questions & Answers
It's a lovely white sand, bright and fine, that both my plants and fish enjoy. It's a hit with my four ram cichlids and three bumblebee catfish. It's some of the best natural sand money can buy, in my opinion.
It hasn't harmed my fish at all, and it looks great and natural in my freshwater tank.
It should be able to withstand 60 pounds of pressure. When using sand, don't go too deep; if it's more than 1-inch deep, it's too deep. Deadly gas pockets can form up to 2" deep. It is preferable to be thinner. You only require 2".
I'm not sure I'd use it for that. 1. It is extremely fine and could easily become stuck in a motor if kept too close together. 2. My bag was full of tiny beetles when I received it, so I'd be concerned about its sanitary condition.

What I wish I'd known before I bought this:
1- It's not white, but it resembles slightly lighter beach sand, and I ordered it because it was the only white sand I could find (petco didn't have any at the time, and their sand is excellent). 2- br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>b I do not call it sand because it looks more like dust as it gets submerged. I literally had to do water changes with a turkey baster (50% changes in a 5 gall br>br>3- if you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, this is the place to If you ever decide you don't want this sand in your tank any longer, a gravel vacuum can literally vacuum it out. I'm not joking when I say that I'm serious. That's precisely how I got rid of it. It's all there. At the very least, it isn't as time consuming.
This is what I use in the sand box for the hamsters. It's ideal for him, and it's simple to modify. I've used it in an aquarium before, and it's a mess. In the aquarium, it is light and easily disturbed. It looked great, but it wouldn't stay put in the spot I wanted.
Beautiful white sand that is very fine, just like real beach sand - I wasn't expecting coarse sea salt, but I'm not angry about it. ) I bought a $10 remedial gravel hose sucker thing at the store and it was very easy to clean. Although they were eating and spitting it back out for the first few hours in the tank, the fish seem to enjoy it. I filled my 10gal with two 10lb bags of sand, as shown.
I just put this sand in my aquarium today, and it's great so far. I washed the sand in a bowl several times before putting it in the tank, which proved to be a wise decision because there was a lot of debris to remove. The sand is very fine, and if one of my fish swims away quickly, it creates a small cloud on the sand, but it settles down quickly; similarly, the water coming out of the filter does not create a cloud, which is good. Overall, I'm very pleased with this product and would purchase it again in a heartbeat.
It's a lovely sand, with a lovely color and texture. Doesn't catch any of the waste, so I switched to sand and my tank is now the clearest it's ever been. br>br>Check to see how much you'll need; I bought four of these for my 70 gallon aquarium (48 inches wide x 12 inches deep) and only used about two-thirds of them. You only need about a cup of sand. Because it's only 2 inches thick, you won't need much of it. br>br>I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who wants sand in their aquarium, both for the price and the appearance.
I only bought a small amount of this to mix in with my pure white live sand to tone down the white and make my substrate look more realistic. I sifted out debris I noticed while in the bag with a stainless steel strainer, and after rinsing in a bucket, I discovered actual mud on the bucket's bottom. The sifter got rid of a lot of wood bits and other foreign debris. This product requires the use of a strainer, and it is not suitable for use in saltwater.
This item was purchased as a replacement substrate for my 5. Titan, my King Betta, lives in a 5-gallon betta fish aquarium. Along with it, I purchased an Aqueon Siphon. The sand is extremely fine and appears to be completely pure and beautiful, and it perfectly complements the colors of my lovely King. It's incredibly simple to clean; simply detach the actual siphon from the hose and begin a suction that will clean the sand. The important thing to remember when cleaning the sand is that if you stick your siphon/hose into the sand, it will suck up a LOT of sand!! To thoroughly clean the sand, simply run the siphon over the top of it. It's a hit with all three of my betta fish! Titan (King), Ares (Baby Koi Betta), and Aquarius (rescued Veiltail from an abusive home) all adore this sand! (I apologize for not having pictures of the sand with any other fish other than Ares. ).
Just make sure to wash it at least five times to get rid of the dust, and it came with a water clearing pack that I threw away because I didn't need it. I put the wet, washed sand in a ziplock bag, rinsed it with saltwater from my tank, drained the last bit of water, lowered the bag into the tank, and gently poured it out on the tank's bottom. The fish (clownfish) was unaffected and it came out crystal clear.
