I've added this to my tank and I'm very pleased. It took me a while to receive this aquarium sand. I purchased the tank mainly because of the five assassin snails and the love sand in it. I have an established freshwater tank of 50 gallons. There is already soil and gravel at the bottom of my tank for live plants, but the assassin snails need sand, and the reviews on this sand were good. As long as I followed the directions on the bag, it was easy to clean. Previously, the sand was introduced to the aquarium 30 minutes before the fish were introduced again. There is nothing better than the excitement of having my Corydoras around! Currently I have a lot of mystery snails in my tank, so I am interested in seeing if assassin snails will help control the population, and I also love what I see in my aquarium. It is wonderful to play in the sand. Although the crystals are a bit beige mixed with white, the colors are still very nice. The best way to clean it was to use a bucket of water like you'd use to wash rice. If sand is stuck in drains, it can be awful! If water is poured in the drain, stay away from it! Rather than throwing it into the street, I throw the cloudy water. It's really nice to get the additional packet of bio-degradable packaging. This clarifier has a magnet. Faster clearing of the water was a result of it. The touch is nice. It filled about half of my 35 gallon elongated tank with a thin layer of liquid. As you can see in the pictures. If I want to fill my entire tank with a thicker layer of 1 inch, I'll need 3 more bags. It's a good thing half of it looks nice. Because I haven't thoroughly cleaned it, I'm concerned about sand getting sucked into the pump while cleaning. It will be on cleaning day that I find out. It should work out, I hope.

I was able to cover my standard 10 gallon tank with one bag. A live plant will probably require more soil if you are planning to plant it. I really like how it looks natural and pretty. A better alternative to gravel, if you ask me.

This kind of sand is sharp rather than smooth. I was worried about my newt's underbelly, but it seems to be fine. A siphon makes it easy to clean the tank, while a baster can be used between big cleanings to clean up any spots. Siphon end can't be placed directly on sand obviously, but if it's held higher off the sand a half inch or so, the water will flow over. Inch is not capable of sucking the sand up and works well, just so you know. It appears that the color on the pic is pretty close to what is actually there. The color is not too white, but more beige than white.
