Questions & Answers

Is it possible to use one in a 55 gallon tank?

40 lb. chunk of beef. About 1 is what you will get from the bag. An aquarium with a 5" sand bed will fit in a standard 48" x 12" 55 quart

Sandy colored? When you say white, it is not white. Could you please clarify what you mean by yellow? What would it look like if the coral shells were white?

There's a light sand color to it. I would describe myself as mostly tanned.

What is the size of the sand sugar? Or even larger?

Despite being a little bigger, it is not overly light so it will easily blow away

There are many people who say not to use it on freshwater fish, but since it already cycles, is it OK?

There will be a high pH in your body. You can't benefit from that live sand because the bacteria in it is meant for salt water. I was wondering what type of freshwater fish you have?

I am forever stuck in foggy water
3/5

In light of the many positive reviews I read before purchasing this, I thought I would give it a try at the price point it is being sold for. Considering the (2) of the (3) bags I ordered are nearly bone dry, it is unlikely the live substrate will be of much use to me. It was however the time it took for the tank to fog up that was most detrimental. For it to even appear better, it took a LONG time. As part of each bag of substrate, there is a small bag of clarifier to add The two bags of clarifier inside had the consistency of water when they were opened, but the other bag had the consistency of syrup when it was opened. My guess for which one was right is that neither one was right. The sand was cleaned by others before being put in the tank, which makes sense to me. The sand in the tank fogged up so badly, permanently for so long, that I wish in retrospect I had rinsed it out - you shouldn't rinse out live sand, but in the tank it was so bad that I wish I had If you ordered a larger particle size from a different distributor, you might be able to better achieve your goal. Despite the fact that the water has been milky for more than a week, the water is still a little.

Water does not clear in the bag, and it arrives dry and dead
3/5

Look elsewhere for sand, or be prepared for decayed sand. The "Live Sand" I ordered arrived yesterday and I paid for overnight delivery through UPS. There is no way that any life is remaining in the sand after 11 days. All of the sand was dry, so there is no point in attempting to transplant After pouring the sand in an already cycled tank, my ammonia grew like crazy within two days due to the decay in the sand. If you are using this in an already cycled tank, it will not work. If you have an existing tank, DO NOT replace it. It is best to buy from another source or locally since these sands will not be live, despite saying they don't need rinsing, there should be decay and it is still clouding tanks, they know it, it comes with "BioMagnet Tank Clear". When you use that stuff, you will fill your tank with foam and you should not use a skimmer afterwards, as it will overflow wildly due to the foam. Due to all the bubbles, I had to turn off my pumps. As a result, any sponges I had would have been destroyed by.

It will raise pH and cloud water, but it is a perfectly black sand from the Reef or African Lake Cichlid
5/5

All the facts are out there. Despite the size of the bag, I was not able to supply my 75 gallon reef system. It is probably best to choose this aquatic sand from a trusted manufacturer because it is probably the best value on Amazon. In any case, I bought it when it was on sale. Whatever the case, this is a good reef or African lake Cichlid that requires high pH levels and carbonate hardness. The Amazon River is in a low pH environment). This sand will definitely cloud your water for about a week (if you actually have the flow a reef tank needs in order to function well). I've tested this several times and find it works just as well as other calcium based sand. Having been informed, you should now be able to proceed.

Even if it isn't really live, the substrate is still quite good
3/5

It's not a bad deal for the amount of substrate you get, but I have my doubts as to whether it's as "live" as they claim. Despite its dry appearance, my bag arrived in good condition. Almost no moisture remained in the sand, so I assume it isn't doing anything to introduce bacteria for nitrification in I am actually taking longer than usual to complete my first cycle, which wouldn't be an issue if I had used dry sand, but since this was supposed to be live, I do not believe it is as effective as I was hoping for. This didn't seem to make a huge difference in cycling my tank whether it's dry or live. In general, I find this sand to be pleasing to the eye. It has some bigger chunks, however it is still fine enough to be edible for snails and fish that sift sand. I like the color and I can easily clean it.

Sand is good and the price is much better than what you would pay at the store
4/5

Sand is very good and there are even tiny shells complete with their shells, which are very attractive. The sand here is exactly what I was looking for. If you look closely, the texture is exactly what I expected.

It is very beautiful sand
5/5

It has a very good texture and is bright. They even provide a small pack of water clearifier in the bag, so you can immediately start enjoying the pool. Very fine dust in it which took a few days to settle after adding, but that is standard when adding sand. a few small shells in my bag, which is pretty cool and goes pretty well with the natural, yet clean look I was striving.

Sand for African Cichlid tanks is the best I have found
5/5

I've bought many bags of sand for my many tanks and I've never been disappointed with this brand. It's the right weight to not blow around a lot but still soft for the animals to dig in. It needs to be blasted in a 5g bucket full of water a few times until it is clear before it can be added It has only took a few hours for any cloudiness to clear (if any). I would guess those who have all had problems either didn't wash as thoroughly or their filtration was inadequate. However, keep in mind that packets won't do anything.
