Questions & Answers

Is this a good product for betta aquariums? Is it possible to sand down the sharp edges?

In my 15 gallon tank, I have a good-sized piece. Initially, I kept it in a 10 gallon high half moon tank, but after a year in two different tanks, the tannin has mostly disappeared. I really like the "black water" look, and if you're keeping betas, angels, or discus, that's their natural habitat. I've had drift wood before, and what I don't like about it is that you have to weigh it down or it will rot. This wood is extremely dense, sinks quickly without additional weight, and does not rot. They're also quite lovely. Personally, I would never buy this or driftwood on Amazon. I'd like to see how it feels to get a sense of how it will appear in my aquarium.

It says it usually ships in 1 to 2 months, but is that still true if it's prime?

There will be no winner of any prime.

Is this a good place to put air plants?

In a large aquarium, I used the mopani. Otherwise, the mopani will float if you don't soak it in water for a few days. br>br>So, if you just want to use it for your air plants without an aquarium, I believe it will suffice.

Is it necessary to soak these items before putting them in the tank?

It's something I'd suggest because it's something that some people require. I've purchased a number of items, some of which required soaking for several days to remove the color, while others did not.

The short straw had been drawn
3/5

I tried to find the most featureless piece of wood I could. I read all of the reviews and looked at the pictures of the wood that other people had received. So, if some people got larger or nicer pieces than they expected, I suppose it's not surprising that some people got the dogs. I'm just glad it wasn't me. I got the medium and it was the most featureless piece of wood I'd ever seen. Because the bottom is light and the top is dark, only the dark side will be visible. a great deal for two- tone. Due to small sharp projections, the light side will need to be lowered. Those who received attractive pieces, on the other hand, make me happy.

Gorgeous! (To remove tannins, use PURIGEN filter media
5/5

)   I bought two of these for $7. 50 each, including shipping. It's worth buying because it comes with free shipping. When the package arrived, I felt like a kid on Christmas morning. What might I come across? These are fantastic, to say the least! ))br>br>They're big for starters. I bought two and put them in a 4 gallon bucket to soak. They are protruding from the rest of the group. I'm guessing it's around 14" tall and a little wider than that. Secondly, they're quite heavy. In my 55 gallon tank, it sank to the bottom. br>Third, the pieces are quite lovely. One has a lot of two-toned elements to it. br>The other is darker, but they both have a lot of small holes and other features that can be used to wedge food, such as Tubifex worms, to encourage natural foraging behavior in your fish. br>br>They do, in fact, tan your water. I've always had driftwood in my tanks, and I've never had any issues with it. In fact, it creates a more natural atmosphere. Tetra Blackwater Extract, which adds tannin and minerals to the water, is also something I've been using. br>br>Before putting my pieces in the tank, I let them soak in water for a day. br>Neither of mine can stand on their own, but that's fine. br>br>I'll definitely be purchasing more pieces to replace my old driftwood pieces that have become soft after years in the tank. br>And the PRICE is unbeatable. You'd be pressed to get it SHIPPED in that time frame. )br>br>TIP: If you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, this is the place to be. The tannins are completely removed when you use Seachem Purigen Organic Filtration Resin in your filter. br>My water is clear, and the two large pieces in the video's center are mopani wood.

So cheap that you should give it a shot
5/5

I ordered the medium and am blown away by the size and quality of this piece for such a low price (it would easily cost twice as much in a pet store). three times the amount Because it's flat, it came in a padded envelope; a small piece broke off in transit, but it's not a big deal. Because the medium has no stated sizing, I was concerned that it would be 6" and flat or boring. It's about 12" tall and 7" wide. It measures 8" wide at its widest point and has a lovely gnarled irregular shape. This is ideal for java ferns and anubias plants, which I intend to use. It's currently boiling, and the water is a dark, opaque brown, as expected. I'm overjoyed that I was able to get such a nice piece for only $11. I'm not sure how often that happens, but it's so cheap, so try your luck, as the other reviewers have said. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> I've included some photos of the piece in my tank. It appears to be fantastic, in my opinion. I used small rubber bands and sewing thread to secure a few anubias, bucephalandra, and java moss. To encourage new growth and attachment to the wood, I cut off the majority of their roots. My young betta fry enjoy resting and playing in the cracks and holes in the wood. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the anubias nana petite carpets the wood - with any luck If everything goes well, I'll post another update. br>br>Boiling the wood was a difficult task. Over the course of three days, I boiled the wood four times for two hours each time, with the wood soaking in clean water overnight in the pot. I had a feeling that no matter how many times you boil it, the hot water will darken, so after the third day, when I soaked it overnight in cool water and it still hadn't darkened, I decided to just try it in the tank. We're fine because it's been in there for two days and the water hasn't stained.

However, if I hadn't boiled and/or soaked the pieces, the aquarium water would have been quite dark
5/5

The pieces of wood I received are very attractive and add a lot of character to my planted aquariums. The wood leaches tannins into the water for a long time, turning it various shades of tea, as others have already stated. The amount of tea you can get out of the wood before sticking it in an aquarium determines how dark the tea becomes. I boiled and re-boiled the water several times. boiled the smaller pieces for an entire day, changing the water every few hours until the "tea broth" was much clearer. I put the large piece that couldn't fit into a stovetop kettle into a new trash can filled with water and set it out in the sun for a couple of weeks, and it was well worth the extra effort. When I introduced the driftwood pieces into my aquariums, any remaining tannins were absorbed by the charcoal in my filters, proving that tannins don't harm fish. My fish seemed unaffected by the temporarily stained water, but if I hadn't boiled and/or soaked the pieces beforehand, the aquarium water would have been quite dark.

Aquarium decoration made of natural materials
5/5

This made a fantastic addition to my aquarium. My goal was to give my betta a natural environment. This wood has a lot of appeal. There were no sharp or rough spots where my fish's fins could get snagged. It also adds tannins to the water, which are beneficial. I also added some Indian Almond Leaf, but the water turned so dark that it looked like tea or even coffee. I removed the leaves from the tree. After a few water changes, my water has turned a lovely brown color. I'm pleased because my fish enjoys hiding in it. br>br>I've attached a photo. My 20 gallon tank is quite tall. The rock hideaway is surrounded by wood.

It's freaking amazing
5/5

I'm very pleased with what I got. It seems to be a hit with my fish as well. I finally got rid of all of the plastic rocks and wood- esk decor and created a more natural atmosphere in their home. It will fit perfectly in a 15 gallon bucket.

Approximately half of my guppies were killed
3/5

The wood was beautiful until it suffocated my fish. I boiled it for about 12 hours, changing the water every 30 minutes, based on other people's recommendations. After that, I soaked it for 24 hours. I didn't notice any discoloration when I put it in the tank. My guppies, on the other hand, were all hanging out at the top of the tank about 12 hours later. Most common chemical problems were found to have normal values in a quick water test. Approximately half of them were dead the next morning. I took out the wood, replaced some water, and everything was back to normal.
