Questions & Answers

Could you please tell me what I need to do to make sure there is no odor coming from this material?

There are leopard geckos living on my mopani driftwood, and they poop on it. With a little dawn dish soap, I add my driftwood to my shower. After that I use hot water to thoroughly rinse the poop off, as I spray until almost all of the poop, as well as dawn dish soap has been removed. After that, I use a towel to dry off the mopani driftwood, and I let it air dry for

What is the safety of this product for crested ?

As I imagine, that would be the case. There is no way for a gecko to The iguana used to love it when it was a baby, but now that he is so big it has become an end table to him. This is what he is going to climb on so I will screw it into the wall of the cage so he can use it as a ladder. It should be fine to try this, as long as geckos don't have allergies to things like this.

My aquarium is beautiful with the mopani in it
5/5

I bought two large pieces and one medium piece of mopani. In addition to the nice size of the large, I also found some beautifully shaped aquarium decorations and recently acquired several generously sized pieces. (I paid less than 20 each for the large and smaller pieces, and under ten each for the medium piece. ) The medium piece, while still beautiful, was not as unique as the large piece but still fairly large There are small holes in the wood where I grow African Abunias plants. My tank looks great with all of them. Adding mopani to your aquarium can discolor the water because tannins are present. This causes the water to turn yellow or look like tea. The best way to remove tannins from your piece is to boil it in water for an hour or more. The piece can be soaked in warm water for a week or two periodically changing the water every 2 or 3 days if it is too large. Clean your mopani gently with water. Do not use cleaners or chemicals. Drift woods do not rot because it is the densest wood in the world and does not rot. Water sinks the majority of them instantly when they are placed in it. When ordering though, it's luck of the draw, since you don't necessarily receive the product pictured but rather whatever they pull that day off the shelf. After doing some research, I found that Ebay has some gorgeous and unique items that you can see for yourself if you look at their pictures. In my experience, I have always received really nice items from Ebay, and I am pleased with my purchase value too. However, you will also have to pay two to three times as much.

Do you mean this is a large? This "large" African Mopani Wood put me off buying it for quite some time, as a lot of reviews warned of its inaccuracy
3/5

It is beyond me why I didn't heed the warnings to look elsewhere, but I placed my order nonetheless. I wouldn't say that it was the best purchase I ever made. This is what I do for a living Even though it is marketed as "large", this Mopani Wood does not meet the minimum measurements in the item description, which should be 16" to 22". The LG has an 18" screen. I decided to post four pictures since each one says a thousand words. Spend less on larger size(s), or purchase a medium size- Among the numerous benefits are that you're likely to receive what some think are "large" items and at a price that will be greatly reduced, with no shipping fees. I hope you win, I hope you win. It is up to you whether you want to.

It is a little smaller than it should be, about 3 to 5 inches too short
3/5

I bought it specifically for the size. It states it is meant to be 16-inch long. It is 18 inches long. Despite only being 13 inches long, the wood I received is very thin. It was essential for this to be exactly as described for me, otherwise I would not have complained. A higher baking spot for my dragons in a 48x24x24 tank is what this was going to be. This is a very disappointing product. Don't advertise it as 16 or 18 inches if it's not going to be 16 or 18 inches.

The piece of wood is great, but needs to be sanded first
4/5

This piece of wood is very nice. There was a part of me that hoped the piece would be shaped like a log. Despite this, I did not request a specific shape, and the seller is not to be blamed for the fact that I received a T-shaped In dry form, the wood weighed 6 pounds, so it must have weighed around 10 pounds if A little over 13 x 3 x 10 inches is how big it is. In addition to its sharp edges, I found this piece of wood to be costly to work with. As a result, I was hesitant to let this wood piece into my 20 gallon tank with my Betta. The majority of it was smooth after hand sanding for an hour. The last time I purchased mopani wood from amazon I did not have issues with it (not a large piece). Since this wood is in the reptile section of Amazon, maybe the sharp edges wouldn't have hurt or bothered reptiles both as much as they would have humans?.

The price of this is great
4/5

The quality is great as well. The look is nice and you can't pick your own color when you order online, but the works well together and has surprised me for my fish tank. I only refuse to give it a 5th star since if you do not boil the wood before using it as an aquarium plant you will get Malaysian cone snails, which are fine for a tank, but they do leave small black marks on the sides and on the plant itself. It's possible that assassin snails will eat them, but I don't know for certain. In order to care for the population, I feed them carefully. In the wild they do not live that long, and if you overfeed you may get an outburst, but if you keep feedings down and prevent them from getting an extra food source, then they can be controlled reasonably well. Also, if they weren't so microscopic and instead looked like black dots, they might look a little prettier.

The piece of wood is huge
5/5

Well we have been working on it for 3 weeks now so it should now be relatively The first thing I thought about was that it looked like a big stump, or a really thick root. It was 23" wide and 10" In order to make it float in the tank, I boiled it for eight hours, changed the water every hour, let it soak for 48 hours, changed that water twice, and then put it in. 3 weeks later, while the wood continues to leach tannins, we are still changing water every other week, and by the following week the water has become I picked up a few Seachem Purigen this week and it almost cleared up, so I'm happy with the result. It's a great place for peace and my loaches like it because there's a nice hole in it that they can hide in.

The only down side is luck of the draw for this great showpiece
4/5

It is a great piece of driftwood, very heavy and sturdy. The picture did not have the necessary branching, however. The first one was fun enough that I tried my luck on a second one since I have a very big aquarium full of cichlids that need hiding places. This was my second log and it is absolutely perfect. There are a few minor sharp edges here and there that I will need to trim, but overall, it is absolutely perfect. Zoo Med is not at fault at all for the driftwood God sent to them. I understand that all wood is unique. 5 out of 5 stars for the second piece, 3 out of 5 stars for the first. In short, the worst thing you'll get is something you kind of like, but you'll probably get something you and your fish will love.

This is a favorite food of fish
3/5

The decision is still on the fence for me. The order was for one large piece and two small pieces. It's a lot to choose from, the small ones being incredibly large and interesting in Would have been better off reading more about tannin leadage before completing the When you want to set up your aquarium quickly like I do, it tends to be an inconvenience. In my new 50 gallon aquarium, I set up live plants and a sand substrate to make the tank look more natural. This would only add to the look of the table. In other words, it worked. After soaking for a short time, the tea color forced me to remove the wood. Therefore, I am soaking it for a longer period of time. The product is still proving to be good and I am willing to give it more time. However, buyers need to be aware that it will take time for the wood to become completely tannin-free. You may have to wait a long time, but your efforts may be worth it in the end.
