It would be best to soak the wood for several days, if not even Pre-soaking the wood before placing in the tank helps it to float less when it's placed in the tank, but it also helps release the tannins contained Most fish do not get sick from this product, but after it's fully leached out of your tank water, it will resemble tea. To rid driftwood of any insects or bacteria lurking, I soak it for two weeks (in a cooler) AND boil it for several hours. This removes most of the tannins from the wood and kills any critters.
The wood in your water will most likely make it more acidic and lower its pH level. Fish of a lot of different species benefit greatly from this.
There is no substitute for boiling Water was changed every few hours through a boiling process that lasted about 5 hours.

Although they were not that clean, I still rinsed and soaked for three days to get them as clean as possible, then ran my tank for a few weeks before adding fish. Even rinsing and soaking the wood may not completely remove bacteria or microscopic biologics, which could harm my fish. Coming straight from the river the wood may have bacteria, or microscopic biologicals that can't be completely eliminated. Furthermore, I am in love with the items that I purchased! The price was great as I got three nice sized ones for $20.
I had no prior feedback or reviews, so I took a chance on it. Would order again. We were surprised at what we obtained and it fit our planted fish tank perfectly.
My favorite part of that is how glad I am I did it. I am very pleased with the pieces I received! I was blown away by how beautiful this wood is! The tanins were completely dissolved in water after I soaked them in a bucket for a few days (which is normal when using wooden materials) and the water in the bucket was generally clear once I finished soaking them. It looks great in my office aquarium, and I will definitely be purchasing it again for my other aquarium at home.
These guys deserve a better rating on Amazon for what they did for My wife and I decided to buy them after checking out a few different drift wood products for fish tanks on Amazon. I am a size 5 and their size description fits me. Among the sizes available, they delivered mainly on the 5 gallon tank description, for the most part 1 L-Issue A hexagon-shaped object about an inch in length, and one L-shaped object about six inches long Two are rectangular in shape, and one is very long it looks like it might be ten inches long. Although I was originally going to purchase one of those plastic medieval bridges, after seeing that the new aquascape trend is natural looking driftwood instead I am very glad I did not end up purchasing one. The way this turned out against the black gravel and LED lighting is very pleasing to me. There is a lot of character and individuality in each piece. As beautiful as the picture they provided is, these are nowhere near as elaborate as they appear in the picture, but whenever you trust someone else with selecting a piece of God's creation for you, you take a risk. Taking a closer look at these three samples, these guys chose good pieces for their fish tanks. Moreover, the style of the tank was perfectly suited to this You can simply follow YouTube videos showing how to wash them and boil them for an hour before you eat them to clean and remove most of the tannins out of the water unless you want your water to turn brown as the Amazon.
Your water will still be dark if you boil it longer. In my five-gallon tank, I have 3 Bettas. The almond leaves like the darker water, so I add it. Obviously the Bettas can swim through or around these propped up in a way that they can swim through or It cannot come soon enough!.
If you purchase this, be aware that it is going to require a lot of prep work before you can use it. The most common review prompted me to boil the wood for a few days and soak it. We were gone for 2 weeks in a few days. As the light increased, I boiled the wood every hour, and switched our the water a half hour later- The color of which was always dark After letting it soak overnight, I rinse it off in fresh water the next morning. black in the morning. I carried out this task for 48 hours. Needless to say, by the end of two days I was quite tired of boiling wood. As a result, I just decided to go with it until I reached the two week mark - Changing the water in the morning is also important. From the start of the week until the end, the water was a little dark. From one to two weeks later, the tea color was only there. It was two weeks later when I decided to boil it. The water was a dark brown color. After reading other reviewers' comments, I decided I would almost certainly return the product since the water was never clear. As I care for clear fish tanks, I anticipate placing the wood in my fish tanks if it turns the water tea colored. If I return the wood, the water will be clear again. Putting the two smaller pieces in my 29 gallon tank and the biggest piece in my 20 gallon tank was a lot of fun. During my stay there in the tank, I was blown away by how crystal clear the tank is. Could it be that my awesome filters are handling it for me? It's impossible to say. They love my fish, especially my bristlenose plecos, however. It is a piece of driftwood that is beautiful from every angle (though it is small). I might have been able to put the wood on the fish tank sooner if I had planned ahead? Could it be that I boiled it long enough then soaked it I found what I did worked best for me, but if you don't want to spend that much time getting it ready, I would suggest going to a specialty aquarium store and getting one of their units. If you're on a budget, The only reason I deducted one star was the fact that I had to spend so much time getting them.
The wood feels quite dense and hard I think it is Mopani, but I am not positive. I am pretty confident that it will hold up well in If you're using them in an aquarium, make sure to boil them for a long period of time, changing the water 4 or 5 times to avoid tannins leaching For a couple weeks now, I have been using them in my tank and I have noticed little leaching of tannins (I also use Purigen to maintain clear water).
I just received it Since two of the pieces were still floating, I boil for about 20 minutes, then let soak in water for a few minutes. When I checked on them after about an hour, they were no longer floating. In spite of my lack of experience, these pieces are quite nice looking. About four inches is the height of the piece on the right side of the tank ten inches is the height of the one on the left and six inches is the height of the piece in the middle. As of now, I've added it to my tank, but if it discolors my water, I'll probably take it out and soak more. I was not expecting these pieces to be so dark, and as you can see on more than one occasion, some of the wood looks burned, which I wasn't expecting. Oh well, it still looks nice. I probably will purchase again if I need more pieces. It was well packaged and delivered fairly quickly. My overall impression is that the purchase was a good one
EDIT I am going to give it a five-star rating. There's really no comparison to how nice it looks in the tank and my fish are digging.
