Questions & Answers

I have a fully charged collar on the fence and it is working properly. Even after following the manual training, she still goes through the motions regardless of the shock. What's your advice?

Karen, training is of utmost importance with a fence like this. If the pup learns that they can run through it, it is hard to re-learn it There may be ways to train them to stay in the yard, or we may be able to adjust their settings or train them differently. If you need assistance with your system, please contact us You can call It is 732.

I have TWO questions for you Are there any alternatives to burying the wire or can it just be attached to an existing fence? Can you tell me how far the collar needs to be before it ?

You asked a great question! Thank you so much! You can attach the wire to an existing fence as long as it is chain link (or any other galvanized metal fence) or a non-metal fence The fence is made of metal. Wires need to be galvanized to send out the signal. Metals other than galvanized will interfere with the signal. It is possible to adjust the distance from the wire at which the receiver collar will begin to activate using the Boundary Width Dial on the transmitting There is no limitation to how close you can get to it or how far you can get from it Depending on factors such as the environmental conditions, 12 feet away is a good distance.

Is the battery supposed to be charged every time it runs low?

It usually charges once a month for me. Although they are not recommended, I would still not recommend them. A collar is on each of my two dogs. Although they have worked well, they both had to be replaced less than a year after buying them.

Could you please let me know if you can interrupt the containment zone or does it have to be continuous? Is it okay for the dog to access ?

Eric, no, you cannot have a break in the wire. You need to create a loop with it all the way around. I think you want to create a containment zone just in the backyard. To do that you will have to run the wire either around the front of the house or across the roof or gutter. MAKE SURE YOU BUY A The collars don't seem to fit well
3/5

PetSafe had a fence and collar that we used for several years that we had to replace. In the first collar, there was a much louder tone so that the dog could hear the voice. It was also very easy to clean and did not fall apart. Only eight months into using our son's receiver collar, one of the contact points has come loose and fallen out. Putting it back in and tightening it was the next step. Upon entering the house two days later, the collar is all that is left. There is somewhere in the yard a receiver who was hit at both contact points. There's a balmy 6 degrees outside, and tramping around the 3 acres out back is about the nicest thing I can imagine. The receiver can either be found or we will have to buy a new one for $120. We will keep searching and hopefully, we will find it. PetSafe has taken a smart and practical step by providing this alternative rather than purchasing another brand fence that would cost We are definitely considering how to keep the receiver attached to the collar, because that is not something that was considered by the design team. It may have been, and maybe they're selling more collars that way. I am still displeased with the collar. Update 5/2/18 I am still unhappy with the collar. The contact prong on this device has broken after less than a year of using it. In addition to the portion that screws into the dog's collar, the portion that makes contact with it is also removed. Since I cannot replace it with a new prong because it is still inside the receiver, I cannot even replace the old one.

Your money is worth more than that! In order to complete the collection, I purchased both a collar and the whole system
3/5

I was very pleased with it for the first couple of As a result, I thought my dogs had outsmarted the system. No, that is not the case. After contacting petsafe multiple times and following their instructions to try to troubleshoot it, along with my own tests of running a new line and moving the equipment, I have then been told to contact customer service and troubleshoot it some more. A few days after the collars arrived, one of the collars had a problem. Neither collar is as sensitive as the other, and they do not work today either. The shock is not even apparent to me. Buy a system I can't use and spend a lot of money. It wouldn't be worth your money to waste it.

The good It is functional, but will not last
3/5

The bad As far as I'm concerned, it works just as it should for the price, and holds a charge for about a week, which I find The wire it comes with is very thin and cheap, and could easily break even by ground shifting alone. There is much heavier duty all weather 18 AWG wire available, which is much stronger. Since burying this wire, I've had no damage because the 18 AWG wire did not break. I'll be honest with you Two of the PetSafe collars had part of the conductive tip break off over the past two years. I had to replace the transmitter and the collars themselves. You'll end up saving money up front in the end when you choose this. It is possible to save some money by using a DogWatch or InvisibleFence system, but I guarantee you will end up paying as much as or more. I find PetSafe equipment to be cheap trash at the bottom of the market.

For my cats, there is freedom, but for me, it is peace of mind
5/5

Please let me introduce you to Though the shipping took a lot longer than I would have liked, I finally received this and now I wonder how I lived without it? If I didn't have it now, I could not imagine my life. It is easy to put up, the instructions are so clear and well written that even a ten year old could accomplish A fence you have in the ground is not necessary, since it can be anchored. There have been some comments that this is a large chore to install, and I guess if you have a huge yard it is, but I just attached the fence, used my lawn edger to dig a hole where there was not one, and boom, I had it installed! It is not wireless, so I decided to go with this product after doing MUCH research for a few months. To ensure that you make an informed decision on the way your fence should be constructed, they include helpful tips and advice. Initially, I was just going to lay it around the perimeter of my yard, but the book shows you all kinds of ways to protect areas such as a pool or a garden, or cover difficult spots. As well as telling you what to train and how to train, they explain how to train your animal precisely, which I was slightly worried about. However, keeping their instruction on what to train and on what days is fairly easy. One day to five days When your pet avoids the flagged areas, you can give him treats when he avoids the flagged area. As an example, you walk the pet around with the unit off. This is something you do about 30 minutes a day. The day after that was day 6 With 10, for example, you'd see if he does not approach the enclosed area, and if he does, you would praise him a lot and boost his motivation. As much as 2 mph can be reached Train for 3 weeks at a time with progressive exercises. You can do it even if you are an idiot. You will have to make some adjustments to ensure that it works the way you intended, in order to reset the wires or whatever you want. You must also customize your collar for your pet because all pets are different in terms of size, fur thickness, etc. But they will tell you all about it in advance. Basically, I think it's well designed, works well, and is easy to use. The pet training tips you get from the site are great, and they explain what to do in case you have to leave your area with your pet (because you don't want them to be scared to cross the line when they need to go to the vet, for example). You'll find information on what to do if your animal escapes the area of protection. There is no need to spend more money. You can buy extra wire, additional flags, a second or third collar, and anything else you might A container of waterproof gel is also included to use if you need to splice in additional wiring. You place the wire inside a container with the waterproof gel, seal it with a rubber band, and use it if you need to water proof the wiring. The unit I bought is rechargeable, but I decided it was a good investment because I don't have to buy the exclusive petsafe batteries that people think are so expensive. I'm not quite sure the numbers are that high, but maybe it's the non-profit schools There is a great deal of battery use with rechargeable units. In any case, it is a complete set, including everything you could possibly need, including the items that are not shown here. The surge protector is included as well, which is great. Now my cats can't jump over the fence to the dogs and people who hate cats. Basically, I can't let my cats play in the street in front of the house because they can't cross over. They can, however, play outside, catch bugs, lay under the shade tree, roll around on the patio, bask in the sun, chase squirrels, and simply have a good old time playing. The package arrived today and I couldn't be happier! I am as well as my babies.

For a fraction of the cost of a heavy SportDog collar
5/5

The main reason I got this collar is to replace my dog's heavy SportDog electric fence collar, which I thought was too heavy for my Cockapoo I prefer this because it's much better and lighter, as well as having a blinking light so you'll know when to recharge it, which is usually not very often, but also makes it easier to find at night.

I was delighted with the online support and chat help I received from SportDog, which owns PetSafe. Through the sales associate, I learned that this model, along with many others, is compatible with my electric fence, and it's a lot cheaper than the SportDog model (which wasn't in stock at the time).
