I was able to get it working. My thermometer provides accurate results with no effort on my part. I am unwilling to get a second one for verification, though I can verify accuracy The following Chinese proverb is quite old (can't possibly be that old) An individual with two watches is never sure what time it is, while an individual with only one is always.

Despite the pictures showing livestock, the instructions do not specify this device is for animals, while placing the probe well under the tongue and keeping the mouth closed is all that is specified. There's no animal cruelty in this, so it doesn't make sense. As I have this in my medicine chest when I am sick, I can use it again. There's a drug store near you that sells the same thing! This product should include instructions on how to use it on animals if it is intended for them. This is completely false and incredibly disappointing.
