Yes. My 60-pound dog has a lot of energy.
You simply place it in the middle (I know it moves), and when you insert the dog's nail, it can only go so far before becoming stuck. I was still hesitant the first and only time I used it, so I simply cut a small portion of the nail off, unsure whether the'stop' would be too far or not. If it's your first time, I believe you should first determine how long the nail is, and then pull back if the'stop' is too close to the point where the dog will be injured. Only if the nails are extremely long do I believe the'stop' will work. However, I completely agree that some instructions for us newbies should be provided. I hope that this information is useful. best of luck!
I have two dachshunds (18 and 22 pounds) and two beagles (23 and 26 pounds) that I use these on. They're a little large for a small dachshund, but they'll get the job done. They should be fine for a basset hound, in my opinion.
Yes, there is a stop, and it works perfectly! I just used them on "my owner" for the first time on Saturday, and he didn't even flinch. I was worried because another product I bought, which was cheaply made (bought), flexed, didn't cut properly, and required more hand strength, causing the product to flex even more. This set did not flex, cut cleanly with less effort, and did not cause pain or yelps from the "pawdicure" recipient. This set, as well as the vendor, are both highly recommended. On my roughly 75-80 pound "owner," these worked as they should.

I never leave reviews, and I've always been satisfied with my Amazon purchases. Based on the number of positive reviews, I decided to go with these clippers. The Epica clippers, unfortunately, did not arrive. Instead, we received a pair of phony clippers that came in cheap packaging, were not stainless steel or sharp, and were generally poorly made. Although the label reads "Chong Wu Qian," the barcode reads Epica 1 Best Professional Clipper. " I noticed that someone else was having the same issue as me. I'm really disappointed. We will be back!.
When I first tried them out, the handle broke. I was never able to put them to use. I immediately proceeded to the garbage can. They aren't going to be replaced. This is a terrible product!.
Several previous store-bought clippers had splintered/chipped his nails, or would simply not cut through, or he'd chip the blades or break the clipper handle altogether! br>br>These are very sturdy and made nail cutting quick and easy with a clean cut and no splintering or chipping. My husband was the first to use them, and he said they were fantastic, cutting through the nails with ease and in less than three minutes! br>br>We're both afraid to use the nail guard guide because we had a bad experience with one on another dog's nails a few years ago, and I just can't bring myself to trust them, so I use my own judgment, but that's just me; I can't rate these clippers on that. So far, there have been no complaints! I'd recommend these to anyone with a dog, but they're especially useful for dogs with thick nails.
See my video review for more information. Thanks!.
I used to have a Leonberger, a giant breed, and I used to trim his nails with a dremmel, but he hated it, especially on his dew claws. I tried a number of different clippers, but none of them worked. They weren't strong enough to cut his nails, and neither was I when I used them. This clipper does a fantastic job.
My 74-pound service dog's BIG nails are no match for this big toenail clipper. He shattered the one that was supposed to be the standard size. This one was stiff to begin with, and it was difficult for me because my grip strength in my hands has weakened. It, like the smaller standard clippers, has a guard that slips over the back. Does an excellent job on the large nails. Make certain you are capable of using it or seek assistance. Most people don't have a cooperative dog like mine, and they won't tolerate you fiddling with their half-cut nail! It had loosened up nicely after cutting through all those large nails.
I was terrified, but I'm in Anchorage, and finding a qualified nail trimmer is more difficult than you might imagine. br>br>I've only used them once, but they were effective on two large dogs. One was a rottie who growled the entire time (and was muzzled), and the other was a golden mix who tolerated it but would have bolted if she hadn't been restrained. It's well-made, comfortable to hold, and the red-gripped handles are attractive; I've used it both with and without the guard. It has a razor-sharp edge that cuts quickly and painlessly. Be prepared to be startled when using it because it makes a loud snipping noise. These are fantastic, especially for the price!.
Will get the job done in a pinch, but don't expect it to last long. term. The title is deceptive. (a professional's opinion)br>The following is a review by a veterinary technician: These are the ones. okay. They're not going to cut it for thick, tough nails. I bought these to keep in my car (because when I visit relatives, they always ask me to trim their pets' nails). br>br>They aren't as sturdy as my good clippers, and the handles "sway" a little when you apply pressure. They're also not as sharp as I'd hoped, which makes contouring the nail a challenge - The cut isn't as neat as it should be. Most dogs over 30-pounds have a nail opening that is too small. Weight: 40 lbs It is suitable for cats. Some small dogs, but if you're looking for a high-quality set of clippers that will last for years, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. EDIT: br>br> Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to the request for a recommendation that was left in the comments - I was not notified of their existence! On Amazon, I found the set we used in the hospital for less than $10 under the heading "Millers Forge Quality Nail Clipper" - I wish I had known about that before I bought these! Those will last you FOREVER, as they have withstood years of daily use on a variety of pets in a veterinary clinic.
