Although I had ordered it for an opening that was wide, the gate I ordered turned out to be a bit too large for our use. Although it was exactly what I was looking for, I returned it because it wasn't an item I needed. A 30" was my dream, but I was only able to find a I was concerned that the 36" was too high and that the 24" would encourage kids to step over, resulting in falls (and all the drama that goes with them). Upon receiving my order, I found it to be white and of a hard, shiny enamel that would be easily cleaned. It had very substantial hinges (which I was concerned about when I first saw this style). This is not a large metal, but it is heavy. I was able to set it up in a few minutes without much difficulty. Unless you have a rambunctious dog or child, it is unlikely to withstand rough treatment. If that's the case, get a gate that is actually attached to the opening with screws. Be sure to choose a gate that will hold up to someone leaping This is not a bad piece of work, and I really regret sending.
