These are not "hand" rails, in my opinion. Your pet may feel more secure climbing the ramp without an open side or end, depending on where you place it.

After having to return a different ramp from another manufacturer because it was unsafe and my dog kept slipping on it, I decided to buy this one. This one adjusts to the height I require and includes rail guards and anti-slip stickers for use on the ramp's bottom to keep it from moving. The ramp itself is made of a durable non-slip material. It is not difficult for my dog to walk up and down.
(Of course, she's on medication, but she's at a point in her life when making daily activities easier for herself is critical). She's never liked ramps, except for the wooden ones for going outside, but after coaxing her a little with a piece of her favorite treat to get used to going up this adjustable little wonder, she's become quite fond of it. She now uses it to get out of bed, as if it were made just for her. It doesn't wobble or move at all, even though she weighs about 75 pounds. It's on the carpet at the foot of the bed, where it belongs. The rails are made of wooden dowels at the base and have holes on both sides, so they can be used on either side. If you rearrange your room, it will not be permanent. They'll have to be relocated later). The height can be adjusted to fit any size dog (or other animal that fits within the weight limit). I'd like to express my gratitude to the creator(s) of this, as it has made my sweet girl's life so much easier. ❤.
br>br>I bought this ramp for my 60-pound Staffordshire terrier, who had recently torn his left ACL, and it claims to be able to support up to 90 pounds. He quickly began to use the ramp, but it wobbled as he climbed it; the angle or steepness of the ramp was difficult for him to overcome, so it could not be set to the higher settings; and the ramp's rails did nothing to keep him from falling off because they were a VERY POOR EXCUSE for a railing. Despite these setbacks, I had faith that it would last a long time, but boy, was I wrong! I've had this ramp for six days, and as he was climbing up the ramp, the treaded walk space gave out. I was standing close by and was able to prevent him from falling all the way down, but he reinjured his leg when the product failed! I can't express how disappointed I am that I put my trust in this product to help my dog and it instead injured him, not to mention that I spent nearly $200 on this ramp only to have it break in less than a week! My husband is a welder, roofer, and carpenter, so it's a good thing. He added four or five screws to make sure it wouldn't happen again. However, I would not recommend this product to anyone who is using it to help their dog recover from an injury! I wish I could go back in time and spend a little more money on a longer, wider, and more durable dog ramp.
I just got this today, and it does exactly what it says. There are, however, a few issues. First and foremost, it is terrifying to my dog, so I am returning it for a refund. But I can assure you that this item is not even close to being worth $150. Maybe $50, but $150 is pet owners' exploitation. This is simply a repurposed dinner tray constructed from low-cost materials. The walking platform is a fantastic idea, but it does not appear to be very sturdy. The wood has a cheap feel to it and isn't cut properly. The rails are too long for the holes. Then there are the sticky pads to adhere to the bottom of the box. They barely cling to the wall. For two reasons, price and quality, I would pass on this. You can make something far better for a lot less money if you build it yourself. That was the path I should've taken.
In my bedroom, all black looks fantastic. It comes fully assembled and is simple to assemble. In just two weeks, my dog had gotten used to using the ramp. (If she had been younger, it might have taken less time!) ) It's not as big or inconvenient as I expected. It's a good fit for the room. It was well worth the money to keep my little one from getting hurt. Doxie has returned to the fold.
It's adjustable, which I like. We have two small dogs, and both of them immediately used it after we set it up.
It's simple to put together, not too bulky, and the height can be adjusted, which is fantastic! My only gripe is that my dogs slip as they go up and down the stairs. If they're in a hurry (which most dogs are! ), tell them. I would like the height to be a little higher as well, but that is not a complaint.
The ramp is sturdy and attractive, though I wish it were one notch higher. My little dachshund has to jump up because it's 10 inches lower than my bed. Before placing an order, make sure to take accurate measurements of your height. Furthermore, the surface is extremely slick, and she was unable to climb it without slipping. I placed some tape strips on the floor, but she is now afraid to use them. I'm waiting for gripper tape so I can start training again. The side rails are particularly appealing to me.
