It appears to be able to withstand the heat. It's the winter that's the issue- I had to take it down because it was too thin to make much noise in the wind. Summer was fine, so as long as there isn't any wind to move it against the deck or the ties, everything should be fine.
Yes, we have it on our patio because we live at a high elevation and it prevents our dog from sticking her head out. The plastic has a high tensile strength.
You can either use the included hardware to secure it to the side walls or use spikes in the grass to secure it.
I would say no; if you want it to last a long time, you should probably bring it inside. We bought ours in March and our dog was able to punch several holes in it when he jumped up once winter arrived. I believe that it became brittle after spending the summer in the sun and then being exposed to the cold winter. It does, however, state that it will not do so for the next three years.

Our apartment's second-floor balcony needed to be baby and cat proofed, so we ordered this. It is extremely effective! It was simple to put together, though I would recommend drilling the holes rather than using the hole-punch tool. They include a punch in the plastic they send. It punched two holes before giving up and refusing to punch any more holes in the plastic. They give you about 40 zip ties, which was more than enough for our needs. It's made of a nice thick, clear plastic. It's hard to tell it's there. The reflective surface is the only thing that reveals it. With this installed, I feel a lot safer about letting my son out on our balcony! EDIT: br>br> So I'm updating my review of this product because we've had it for a little over a year and it's developed a number of holes and cracks, ranging in size from a golf ball to a massive gaping hole. When the weather became colder last winter, the first crack/hole appeared. When our dog was excited about another dog outside, he put his paws up against the plastic and seemed to punch a small hole right through it. It is guaranteed not to become brittle or crack for three years, according to the product information. It's also "UV protected," according to the label. I believe it weakened as a result of being exposed to the sun all summer and then being outside in the winter. We live in Michigan, which can be quite cold at times. Perhaps it wouldn't have been an issue in a region with milder winters. It doesn't say whether or not it should be brought inside for the winter, but that might have helped. However, because we use our balcony all year, removing it would defeat the purpose of baby/cat proofing it. We used clear packing tape to patch up the holes, and while it's not bad, it does look a little shabby now. I used tape to reinforce some of the cracks in the hopes that they wouldn't turn into full-blown holes. For the price we paid, I had hoped it would last a lot longer.
Winds gusted to 60 miles per hour, and the shield was blown away, presumably due to a lack of screws. If you're going to use it, make sure it's completely flat and there's no room for vibrations.
Instead of using the hole puncher, I drilled the holes and bought more zip ties. It's very reasonably priced and precisely what I'm looking for.
This is not the product depicted in the photo. The actual plastic was a much lighter shade of white, barely visible through. It's quite unsightly, but it'll get the job done.
The entire deck shield was blown off by a thunder storm. It's not very sturdy, and putting it together is a pain.
Aside from that, for the price, I was satisfied.
It is encouraging and clearly explains a wonderful way of looking at life and living for Jesus. Melinda Bramlett Joyner (br>Melinda Bramlett Joyner (br>Melinda Bramlett Joyner.
