Thank you for reaching out to me with this inquiry. There are both long and short prongs on this collar. We recommend using the long prongs on long-haired dogs, tightening the collar so that one finger can fit underneath, and trimming your dog's fur if necessary to ensure that both prongs are in contact with bare skin. We don't recommend shaving this area because anything that comes into contact with shaved skin can irritate it.
This bark collar can detect howls and bays, so thank you for your excellent question, Edward.

This should never be used on a dog that is left alone! This is a terrible product; do not buy it for your dog. Save them the embarrassment and psychological trauma. Our dog was outside minding his own business when it began to rain heavily. He doesn't seem to mind, so we let him go about his business. Suddenly, we heard him SCREAMING because the collar would not stop shocking him, and because he was wet, it shocked him to death (literally). We had to track him down, wrestle the object from him, and then give him a bath. Without a doubt, he is traumatized, and we are ashamed of ourselves for allowing this to happen to him. He'd been using it for a few days and had had no problems with it; he'd bark, it'd do its job, and he'd stop. He's not a small dog (Heeler mix, 60-70 lbs. ), so keep that in mind. 70 kilos). This surprised me because I thought the collar would keep me dry even if it rained.
I read reviews and try to be completely honest in mine because I've been trying to stop my dog from barking excessively for seven years! I experimented with a training collar as well as two other tone and shock collars. My dogs' barking has gotten louder over time (due to the cheaper ones). He barked at everything, including passing cars and neighbors, and he did so nonstop. We put a lot of effort into it because we are retired. For the past ten days, we've been wearing this collar. He's no longer sick. We had to set it up so that every time he barks, he is shocked. 5 points for power. We're now switching to the other mode, which allows him to bark once or twice without being shocked. I was hesitant to purchase a bark collar because I believed it was inhumane. Our dog is the happiest because he can now go outside and stay outside for as long as he wants. We're pleased with our neighbors, and they're pleased with us. Also, when we first got it, I charged it, and it's still going ten days later. We also have an underground fence for sport dogs. We've had it for nine years and have had no issues with it. I'm kicking myself for not purchasing it earlier.
The model with the LED display is the one to go with. Over the years, I've purchased a number of these. While this model is equally effective as the others. I prefer the model with the LED screen because it allows us to see (1) that it is one and (2) what mode it is in more clearly. When I purchased this model, I had no idea it didn't have an LED screen. We need to be able to switch modes because we change our settings depending on the situation - For example, if we're going on vacation and just want to hang out at home, or if our neighbors are working in their yard and have their dogs around. If you don't need to switch modes frequently, this is the best option. Then this model will work well for you. Make a note of it and then put it out of your mind.
However, we quickly ran into difficulties. She enjoys barking a lot. She barks at birds, squirrels, and everything else in between. When I let her out or onto our deck, she just yaps, yaps, yaps. It began to have a significant impact on our autistic son. He had reached a point where he couldn't take it any longer. I started with a cheap bark collar that beeped, vibrated, and then shocked me out of desperation. She was unaffected by it in the least. On the basis of the reviews, I decided to buy this collar. I was a little nervous because she's a small dog, weighing in at 13 pounds, and she's known to be shy. It took me a while to figure out how to put it on her neck properly. It had to be a little tighter than I expected, but once I got it right, this thing is fantastic! I remove it and give her breaks as directed, as well as taking it off when she's at home and overnight. The first shock isn't so strong that she gets scared, so she continues to bark at first, and it gets stronger until she stops. She's finally mastered the art of not barking! We've been saved by this collar! My son is content, and I finally have the dog of my dreams! Don't waste your money on low-quality items; BUY THIS COLLAR!.
It lasted for about 5 years before it started to fail. This is the current replacement for the old collar, which was discontinued by the company. This new collar is completely ineffective! The dog barks nonstop, but there is no response! I'm so disappointed because I had high hopes for this collar, and it's set up properly, shows it's active on the test device provided, is tight enough, and so on. I'm not sure what Sportdog did to make things so bad, but after reading other reviews similar to mine, I'm going to return this product and tell everyone not to waste their money on it!.
My Weimaraner is a very talkative breed, which means she is always on the lookout, hears everything, and barks very loudly and deeply. This collar is absolutely fantastic! And the only one that has worked for her is the one she's been wearing since the first time she put it on, and it can't be too painful because she comes right up to me every morning and stands and waits for me to put it on. I went two nights without charging it, and when I did, it was still green, and when I connected it to the charger, it flashed green, indicating that it was fully charged in less than 10 minutes, so it has a long battery life. I am very impressed with this product, and would recommend it to any dog parent!.
Update: It's still not working, and my dog has been fried as a result of it. br>br>I had high hopes for this collar, but it doesn't fit my pit/retriever properly. It mostly works for him at home, but it drives him insane outside.
Simple to work with. There is no need to set up anything. Install on the dog. br>br> Take advantage of the quiet. Only one or two bark-producing trees remain. br>br> She made yelp noises as she realized the new ban on unnecessary high-intensity exercise. Outside my office window, there have been a lot of squirrel trespassing incidents. br>br>Wears it all day and continues to be a happy dog with a wagging tail. br>br>Because the dog is untrainable, when I'm not wearing her, she goes into full volume mode, which I'm fine with. Dog did not come with an operant conditioning feature. br>br> There are no firmware updates available at this time. br>br>It's a nice product.
