We've been experimenting with this on our small (12 lb) dog for about a month. Despite the fact that the dog's bark is loud enough to startle grown men, the collar only responds to about one out of every 50 barks. Simply put, it's insufficiently sensitive. Sorry for squandering $80.
Before we get into why it didn't work, I want to make sure I read all of the instructions CAREFULLY. I double-checked that the collar was snug but not overly so, and that all of the appropriate settings were in place. br>br>I have a one-year-old toy poodle who weighs 10 pounds and barks at every noise. His bark is piercing and loud. However, because I'm so small, finding a collar that fits and works reliably has proven difficult. br>br>This one was better than the majority of the collars I've tried (roughly 6). Background noise or him shaking his collar would cause cheaper collars to go off. This one didn't have the right amount of sensitivity. For about ten minutes, he would bark. Before being shocked, there was a 15-second pause. He also quickly realized that using lower growls and barks allowed him to remain vocal while avoiding tripping the collar. He didn't associate the barking with the shock as a result of this. He was taken aback by the shock, which seemed to come out of nowhere. We gave it three weeks before concluding that it was not the right fit. br>br>I finally settled on SportDOG Brand NoBark SBC- Instead, he chose R, which has proven to be the ideal match for him.
Unless we're on our way out. We began by providing him with chew toys, a busy bone, an ultrasonic bark device, relaxing music for dogs (I kid you not), a dog collar with a citronelle spray, a fermone spray for his bed, and finally a different electric collar pet safe that amplified the shocks, which worked to some extent but caused our dog to howl when we left. After using it for a few years and watching our dog howl more and more when we leave, I've come to the conclusion that it does not zap that kind of noise. after a second set of batteries had run out This is the one we bought, and oh my god, it actually works. It's the vibration that warns you that a zap is about to happen that makes it so popular. We needed to calm our dog down because it was a one-two punch. Those of you who believe this is bad for your dog should reconsider. NO. What's bad for your dog is that he's constantly straining his vocal cords, as well as our neighbors' nerves. What a huge relief it is now that he doesn't even try to bark or howl when I leave! It was well worth the money. I only write reviews when something exceeds my expectations and I believe it will benefit someone else! PS: It comes with a fast charger that charges in just two hours!.
A ten-year-old Maltese who is happy. I had previously attempted to use a shock collar on him, but he yelped and I freaked out, so that was the end of it. However, because we live in an apartment building and my neighbors aren't fond of his constant need to yell, we decided to try the shock collar once more. Advantages: br>br> • br>br>br>br>br>br>b It bears the Dogtra seal of approval, which I believe is reliable. I'd previously purchased a different Dogtra collar for my larger dog, which had served me well, so I went out of my way to find the Dogtra collar this time because I "trusted" it. Although it is more expensive than some other bark collars, it is well worth the money; my dog wears it for the majority of the day (I always remove it at night) and has had no irritation issues, and he only scratches it on rare occasions. • It actually works! Now that our dog is wearing this collar, we have a much more peaceful home. I'd say it took him about two shocks to figure out that barking was a no-no, and he still pushes the boundaries on occasion. He doesn't bark as soon as we walk in the door, or when visitors arrive, or when my other dog passes by, and so on. He still gets a little irritable outside, but when he feels the warning vibration, he usually calms down. br>br>Contrary to popular belief, there are a number of disadvantages to using this product. • br>br>br>br>br>br>b It's shocked him a few times when it shouldn't have, in the sense that it didn't seem to give him the warning vibration, which isn't cool. I'm not sure if he ignored the warning because of a vibration that I didn't notice, or if it was a malfunction. In any case, he was taken aback when he didn't bark, which isn't acceptable. br>• The only thing I'd change about this collar is the size. I'm not sure how the technology in it works, so I'm not sure how feasible that is, but it would be much better if it were smaller. br>br>Overall, this was a good $60 investment! It's something I wish I'd done ten years ago!.
I had high hopes for this collar because it was made by Dogtra, and I bought it for my yorkipoo, but it didn't work out. They continue to bark as if nothing is wrong with them. The collar shocked my Yorkipoo once she had passed my GSD. She didn't even bark, but the collars picked up on the GSD's voice, and I don't think this collar is safe or effective for my small dog. I purchased two of them for my two small dogs, but I had to return both of them and place an order for another brand.
I assumed it needed to be replaced because it had outlived its warranty. Based on Amazon reviews, I went with the Dogtra YS300 because it was $20 less expensive than another SportDog. br>br>However, I was dissatisfied right away. There is only one type of setting (7 levels), and when my dog barked, she needed level 5 to see any reaction. There isn't a lot of room for improvement there. The SportDog, on the other hand, had three different training modes, each with multiple levels ranging from one to ten. br>br>The collar also buckles in an inconvenient way. Then she continued to bark, according to neighbors. I made the decision to send it back to the sender. Customer service was quick to respond and promptly refunded my money in full, including free return shipping. That is something I am grateful for. br>br>I ended up emailing the SportDog team, and they were more than willing to troubleshoot the issues with my original collar, to the point where I just used a different training setting, and everything seems to be fine now. So I'd recommend spending the extra $20 to try SportDog and see what you think.
