She has a hard time calming herself down when she hears a noise and gets into extended barking fits. She will experience increased anxiety for the next 30 days. Following a barking fit, the dog becomes even more sensitive to noises for the next 60 minutes. This hasn't worked out well in our current project. from- When on calls or meetings, I prefer to be in my own home. A trainer suggested that we use a citronella bark collar. In a nutshell, it's worked. For the first few days, we warmed her up to the collar by putting it on and off, providing food and treats but not turning the unit on. We turned the collar on after she developed a positive relationship with it. The citronella spray irritates her. That is precisely the point. It provides enough of a distraction from whatever has triggered her that she stops barking, preventing her from becoming enraged and experiencing increased anxiety. However, there are a few things that could be done better. br>br> Manual (remote control) or anti-theft modes are available for the collar. mode of barking Within the first 60 seconds of turning on the collar, you can switch to manual mode by pressing a button on the remote. If it doesn't, it'll go into anti-. mode of barking In anti-gravity mode, the remote does not work. mode of barking I wish the remote had a toggle button to switch between manual and anti-theft modes. so you don't have to turn the unit on and off to change modes I also wish the collar didn't make a beeping noise when it turned on or off. This has become an auditory cue for the dog, letting her know that whenever I pick up the collar, it makes a noise. It would be preferable if it were just a led indicator, so they wouldn't associate the sounds with the collar or person.
I had tried tone-only collars for barking and they worked for a while, but my dog figured it out and would ignore it after a while. I didn't want to go with a shock collar because that would be a last resort, so I went with this device instead. This device is great and really gets the dog's attention when you press the spray button. It does not work automatically, but that is not a problem. It would be fantastic if they added the ability to program a progressive automatic response based on the duration of the barking, such as tone level 1, 2, 3, or spray 1,2 based on the duration of the barking. It's a little heavy for small dogs, like mine, who weighs about 6 pounds. I don't use it all day, though. This is a collar I strongly suggest.
This is a terrible collar. I have a great Dane, and I set the sensitivity to the highest setting, and it has never gone off. I made sure it was charged and filled with spray before testing it by clapping and hearing the warning beep, but it never went off when my dog whined or barked while wearing it. If it won't work for a Dane, and I can't imagine it working for anything smaller, don't waste your money on it.
If you use this tool on a daily basis to recharge and refuel the collar, the "flaps" on the charging points can be very annoying. While I understand the need to be water resistant, they're a pain to pry out every night when we refill and recharge. There must be a better way to do things! We plan to take our puppy off of this eventually, hopefully within a few weeks. br>br>After several attempts to pry them up, I usually resort to a sharp object to assist. br>br>It shouldn't be this difficult. br>br> I'm not sure if the device can spray right away without the warning beep. I don't want him to wait for a beep to stop his behavior in our case because I don't want this to become a permanent fixture. Is it alright to bark if there isn't a beep? That is a message I do not wish to send.
I've seen it go off not only while my dog is sleeping on the couch, but also when he isn't wearing it. Maybe we got a bad one, but this was completely useless for anything other than instilling in my dog the belief that "sleep equals being sprayed with citronella. ".
Some of the collar's functions are hidden, making it difficult to determine how well they are performing. Depending on the thickness of the fur, it takes some effort to achieve the proper tightness adjustment. The "beep" and "spray" functions appear to work together, but I never get a whiff of citronella, no matter how close I get. Results, on the other hand, cannot be denied - The big guy (80 lbs) will let out one or two throaty woofs before stopping, indicating that he is aware of the situation. Other than the fact that you can tell he's aware of what's going to happen by putting it on him, it doesn't cause any distress. Deterrence is effective in this case. If you're looking for a gentle introduction to bark control, this is the product for you.
I'd like her to understand what constitutes "bark worthy" behavior. " The remote control is ideal because it enables her to bark in the appropriate manner; If I tell her to be quiet (and she doesn't), she gets a warning beep, a spray, and a reward as soon as she is quiet for other "nuisance" barking. This is a highly effective and compassionate training tool. The odor does linger on her, but it's nothing that a quick wipe down with scented baby wipes can't fix.
As my 10-year-old mixed-breed dog grew older, he became more fidgety. He was prone to barking at anything. Someone is ascending. Going down the stairs, sitting in a chair, and now putting on a mask to go out. His barking has been significantly reduced thanks to this collar. Now it sounds like he wants to bark, but most of the time he doesn't (don't get me wrong, he still barks). However, the house is a lot quieter. The only drawback is that when my daughter's dog barks, my dog is sprayed. As a result, he becomes perplexed from time to time.
