Questions & Answers

Concrete is it damaged by it?

In no way did I The roof that I have is made of this material. In contrast, it was not possible to damage the cement steps under the roof.

Where does the calcium chloride come from? Is it pure or does it contain other things?

For a list of what is in these MSDS, you can search for "Pellets of Fire MSDS.". It is listed as a product with an MSDS of "83-" Pellets made from 90% anhydrous calcium chloride, technical grade, consisting of Ibid., p. 9. The following properties describe the chemistry of an object In all three forms A, B, and C The following pellets are available Ninety percent of total alkali chlorides (as NaCl2) are present. A maximum of 16 percent of magnesium (as MgCl2) is present. Impurities must not exceed 50%*br>Other impurities must not exceed CaCO3 must be no more than 50%, calcium hydroxide must be 0%. The maximum amount of sulfur (as SO4) is 16 percent. The maximum possible concentration (as Pb) of heavy metals is A maximum 0.011% iron (as Fe) can be obtained. The maximum amount of calcium carbonate is 0.02%. It also lists sodium and potassium chloride as ingredients, and by adding the two numbers you can see that it could be as much as 15% potassium and sodium chloride. *br>When you compare to the Peladow MSDS, you find that Peladow is 90-12%. The calcium chloride content is 92%, and the sodium chloride content is 2% The potassium chloride is 3% and the sodium hydroxide is 1% The sample at Peladow is more pure calcium chloride than the sample at Pellets of Fire, and Peladow does not rate as highly on Amazon as Pellets of Fire. You can also find Pellets of Fire as far as I know. I'm not sure why the name changed, but when you read online you can learn more about the different formats of ice melters. There is no ice melter which can completely melt ice, it is designed to fracture and weaken the ice so that it can be easily shoveled away or brushed aside, or melted further by the sun and In the case of ice, this product burrows through the deepest layers of the ice. Calcium chloride works better, as it melts ice even when potassium and sodium chloride won't work because it's too cold. In addition to being more expensive, it also does less damage to concrete than sodium chloride or potassium chloride. *br>So it seems like if your main concern is keeping your concrete from damage, a more pure calcium chloride like Peladow might be a safer choice.

Would you mind letting me know how long this product has a shelf life? When I keep it sat around in my garage for a year, will it still be effective?

Can't figure it out. As we have since purchased a home, I have not used the pellets in my garage for over a year. I used to use them in a damp apartment, but now we live in a dry place. The manufacturer may be able to help you.

Unless the unused product in the bucket is used, will it get hard over time like sodium chloride?

This did happen in the container scoop to spread, but it has turned rock hard and I cannot remove it from the

After four years of review The powdered metal conductive ice and snow melter in a reusable bucket is effective and convenient
4/5

Those who need to restore driveways and walkways can use the Pellets of Fire. These pellets are small calcium chloride granules about the size of Nerds candy, and while they are less tasty than Nerds, CaCl melts well and is more efficient than bigger pellets when it comes to covering the surface area. My experience with these over the past few years has led me to believe that they are worth the cost. Even though the shipping is included in the price and the price is a bit steep, the price is still reasonable considering that a 20lb bag typically costs about $20 at our local hardware stores. The bucket included with the kit tightly seals and can be reused for a very long time. This works best when you use it at the beginning of a large snow storm, after there has been a layer of snow on the ground for it to react with and not blow away, but before the heavy snow starts piling up to prevent the substance from hitting the roadway. You'll find that shoveling becomes less of a chore once you have this down, as the snow surface will be melted as it melts / warms. It has been a huge benefit to have the bucket included since I can scoop out the pellets with a plastic cup, spread them out with precision to conserve product while maximizing It was always me that spilled or dumped piles of too much pellets in the area of my driveway when using pellets from a bag. The update for 2/2019 is as follows It's still working great for me with Pellets of Fire. I have bought two buckets over the years, and they work better than any other product I have used. When not in use, it stores well Since calcium chloride is in the bucket, it won't turn into one big rock of salt during the warmer months. Furthermore, the bucket is tightly sealed, so the powder does not mix together during the warmer months.

I AM THE mighty melter
5/5

The item I purchase each year is the same one I purchased several years ago. There is a great deal of melting power in it. As well, it can be used on surfaces such as concrete and stone. As far as we can tell, no damage has occurred. For those who will receive a bit of sun, this can be a useful product. Burning pellets at the surface allows sun heat to spread melting on the surface. If you expect re-melting, set up the pellets for cooling before you turn them on again During the night, freeze the food. Then wait until morning or use after it has warmed up a bit more. The melted state can be maintained well below the freezing point of water when calcium chloride is used. Having lived on the shady side of the street, this is a practical item that helps us maintain a safe, ice-free driveway and walkway across the street. This is a very expensive vehicle, but it does not fall on A priceless experience. If this were the case, I would buy locally. I have seen some reviews that claim the same material can be bought locally for 20% or some ridiculous fraction of the price of Amazon. Some people don't seem to realize that snow melting products come in a variety of chemical compositions. Low-quality stuff is more damaging to stone work, not to mention that it does not prevent regrowth It has frozen.

-Works as a Product - Do you have an estimated delivery date? The order was placed based on the fact that we were expecting snow
5/5

It made us very happy to see that it was due to be delivered in a couple of days on Tuesday. As soon as snow fell, it I can see why Tuesday and Wednesday were a problem - It was not possible to deliver it. As of Thursday, we had shoveled our steep driveway so that we could receive deliveries A plow was used to clear the road. Each day, we received a note informing us that it was on its way. This is, however- We did not receive the delivery until the following Tuesday, one week after we were told it would be delivered. There is no snow left now- Whether or not we need it this year is up to us! The only time we know it's working is when we get.

A product that is unparalleled in the marketplace
5/5

The product works really well This is the first time I've ever heard of it, but I've been buying it for several years now. I walk down my porch steps every winter and they are always icy. As soon as I get dressed, I sprinkle about half a cup. As long as the steps and walkway are clear, I can clear it. It got two thumbs up from the mailman!.

This is the best ice melting machine on the market
5/5

We are extremely satisfied with this product. It just took effect today, and I heard the ice popping before it had time to really take effect. I wanted more, but it's already out of stock. Since I am down to half a bucket, I hope more will be available in the near future. Since the ice was thicker than usual today, we added three layers of this product, whereas yesterday we added two layers. This is a terrific product, so be sure to get more of it.

There are tons of junk in these packets
3/5

My only concern was melting the ice on my driveway with this product, so I was eagerly waiting for it to work. I had a rather small driveway of approximately 15 feet long by 15 feet wide, and I used all 50 pounds of pellets and 24 hours later my driveway is still covered in ice. Even though the temperature when I laid the pallets down was 0°, it was within the product's temperature range criteria, so it simply does not.

It has a terrible lid Opens but won't let you in
3/5

The order for these has been completed about ten have been ordered so far. In eight out of ten cases, I was unable to open the buckets. To open the lid, you have to pull a piece of plastic so weak that it snaps before it opens, and I still end up having to use a knife and hammer to open it. Even though the product is fine, the packaging is awful. I will never order another one of these.

Quite a bit of work was done, but not enough to warrant overpaying for it
4/5

It's an excellent product. I am happy with it overall. As the DC region faced a challenging winter season in 2014, this feature was essential in keeping the sidewalks There are just some things that aren't as amazing as they looked Somehow I had it in my head that I would have clear walks with 2-if I treated my walks with this There is a 3" patch on the grass However, it is actually quite effective so I docked a star for value. I don't normally dock stars for price since it appears to fluctuate erratically but I did This is because I refilled my previous bottle of ice melt with this instead of the old bottle and got two bottles instead There were three or four applications before I had to discard it, while the other product gave me five to seven It was about the same per pound of meat, but I got a slightly better price. Although much more quickly Not sure if it is the smaller pellets, but something had me needing more to cover the same area as my first application. The next time it is $10-$12 I'm likely to buy it again The price I heard some reviewers found on this website is $12 per 10lbs. However, I do not think it is worth the price that someone else described.
