I'm not a pool player; I'm just a regular guy, but my wide-mouth was an unknown brand, and it cracked as well. I checked with two different pool supply stores in my area, and both said the wide-mouth skimmer size should be the same. The Hayward functioned properly, and all of the holes were perfectly aligned. This skimmer is much nicer than the previous one, and I'm hoping it will last a long time. I hope this information is useful to those who are curious.
Yes, a universal gasket is included. Mine is about the same size as yours, and it worked perfectly for me.
You can skip this step if you already have a widemouth opening. It includes both the widemouth gasket and the basket-holding part. To replace it, you'll have to disassemble everything. If that part cracked before, you'll probably want to replace it all so that the widemouth part doesn't crack while you're removing the screws.
It is entirely a matter of personal taste. It's the same skimmer as before, but with a larger front opening.

This is something I should have done from the beginning with a SOFT SIDED pool (Intex style 15 footer), as it clears the surface debris in minutes. The vacuum attachment is GENUINE, and it makes vacuuming a whole lot easier and more enjoyable. Don't be afraid to put it in a soft-sided pool; just make sure it's supported in some way because it'll be quite heavy once it's filled with water. I simply zip tied a section of PVC pipe from the bottom of the skimmer to the ground to the hose, leaving the bottom of it exposed. IT WORKS PERFECTLY!.
An Intex 18' round pool was used for this installation. br>Before purchasing this, I read all of the reviews. Also, prior to the installation. br>br>I was terrified of doing it, but I was also tired of skimming several times a day because our pool is surrounded by trees. I'm glad I went ahead and took the plunge. It prevents debris from accumulating on the pool's surface. br>br>I preassembled the entire unit for installation, as recommended by others. Because the screws can be difficult to work with, I believe this made the installation process go more smoothly. br>br>When I installed it, I didn't cut the hole first; instead, I installed the entire unit first, then cut the hole. I did not split the butterfly seal and placed it entirely on the inside of the pool. br>br>Sooo, it was fairly simple to set up, has no leaks, and effectively cleans the pool. I've only had it for a few weeks, so I can't speak to its durability or how well it will function when the pool is removed and reinstalled next year. However, it has already surpassed my expectations.
Update 5- 17br>It's been a week since I opened my pool, and it's still going strong. I used the vacuum to clean the bottom, and it did a fantastic job. Still looking good. br>br>Exactly what I was looking for for my pool. Everything you'll need is included. The white also adds a nice, clean look to it. The gaskets are doubled, resulting in a very tight seal. br>It's a perfect fit for my vacuum.
I drained the pool until it was only 2 feet deep. Then you'll need to cut a hole in your wall and install this. I've had no issues with it thus far. It isn't simple to set up, in my opinion. The way they instruct you to cut the liner will almost certainly result in the incorrect size. You must create a template that is exactly the same size as the skimmer opening (NOT THE FACE PLATE). Then, using a sharpie, make a mark on the liner and cut it out with a VERY sharp utility knife. I also dislike the fact that the faceplate screws do not have a torque specification. They are difficult to turn, and determining when to stop to avoid stripping is difficult. As a diesel technician, I have a good sense of when to stop, but I can see how many people would overtighten. Tightening should be done with extreme caution. If you strip the threads, you'll almost certainly get a leak.
Okay, I give four stars for items that meet my expectations and five stars for items that exceed them. This is a good example of the latter. I've heard that having to split the butterfly gasket is a pain. I didn't take the time to think about it. On a soft-drive, I installed this. Steel support poles for a sided intex pool. I installed the front piece, drilled holes for the screws, mounted the outside piece to the inside, and cut the hole after everything was tight and sealed. So before I cut the wall, I had it completely mounted. I lost almost no water despite the fact that the pool was nearly full. Only what oozed from the screw holes when I pried them open. The construction of the unit is excellent. I'm not convinced that having a wide mouth has any advantages over having a normal mouth. My unit is not level because of the way I mounted it and the rounded edges of the pool walls (soft sides). As a result, even a minor change in the water level can deprive the unit of water. For this, I've devised a solution that I believe will work. Keep in mind, though, that this isn't a criticism of the unit; rather, it's a reflection of how I used it. All of this is just to let you know in case you're thinking about doing something similar.
This skimmer is a kickass kickass kickass kickass kickas Mine is mounted on a 15'x48" Intex pool and does an excellent job of removing debris from the top four feet. 6 inches of water The inner plastic is a gunk magnet, which is disgusting, but the algae/sunscreen oils/dirt/bugs mixture wipes off with disinfectant wipes fairly easily. When I turned off my pump after installing this skimmer, it would return water to the pool via the pool outlet and skimmer, causing the pump to lose prime the next time it turned on. By closing the inlet, I was able to narrow down the source of the problem to the skimmer. line shutoff valve and waiting for the problem to go away, then reopening the valve to get the water flowing again. To solve the problem, I added a spring-loaded swing check valve just before the pump inlet. This fixed the issue, but it cost me an additional $15 to do so. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.
The instructions, on the other hand, were terrible. Our Intex pool was perfect for this. Despite the fact that everyone says one for each end, you don't need any adapters. Not true. For the inlet, all you need is an extra flat washer. The Intex hose was a perfect fit for the skimmer's outlet. The instructions were difficult to understand and a bit nonsensical, but I only needed an extra flat washer to attach the return side to the Intex plunger valve. It went off without a hitch because I just wing it. Before cutting the liner to fit this, make sure the pool is at least half full. I could have used some assistance, but with a little perseverance, I was able to complete the task on my own. The only issue I have is that sometimes when I adjust the eyeball, the entire fitting comes out with it. It isn't a deal-breaker, though. You have to put up with minor annoyances from time to time. Overall, I'd purchase it again and recommend it to others.
The factory filtration system in my Coleman pool was a complete disaster. The pool is now much easier to maintain thanks to the installation of this top skimmer. Installing it can be a bit of a pain. Before you install it, I recommend slightly countersinking all of the holes and then screwing in the self tapping screws so that the threads are already in the plastic when you do. It will, believe me, make your life a lot easier.
