I was delighted to see that the package was sealed with a vacuum. The dried larvae appeared to be You can imagine my great disappointment when I put them out for the birds and they sat there for a solid 48 hours without being touched by them! Over the years, I have fed dried mealworms to the wild birds in my yard and they have gonebbled them up happily. No one is left out of this feast, not even squirrels. In addition, the squirrels will not touch them (I sometimes chase them away from the meal worms so the birds can have first pick). There is something special about these birds as the only ones that touch them are European Starlings, which are not my favorite birds to feed because they squeeze out American Songbirds by their massive numbers and eat a lot of the native bird's It is only about once a week that I see the starlings eating the mealworms, so I know most of the mealworms are being eaten by the songbirds. Due to their refusal to touch them, the songbirds won't touch them, so I'm going to toss the thirty bucks I spent on them. There will never be a time when I buy larvae of black soldier flies I'm sure there are plenty of creatures that would like them, but they do not live in my backyard.
Mealworms are the normal diet of all my insectivorous birds, but due to the short supply I tried these instead. It is impossible for anyone to touch There's no one here. Not even raccoons and opossums. You can forget about it if it's wet or dry. A friend of mine who works at a wildlife rehabilitation center uses them to supplement food for birds when the good stuff runs out, so I will pass them along To me, mealworms are the best Bluebirds and woodpeckers do not enter my garden to feed on these.
Those are the only things my sweeties wouldn't touch. The fact that my "search" for Kimoe mealworms kept redirecting me to Picky Neb should have given me a clue that something was amiss. I am very disappointed with Kimoe and am trying to convince myself this was a packaging issue. The purpose of this seemed to be intentional, but I may be mistaken. Make sure you are buying from a reputable company.
Birds that love meal worms do not go There is no evidence that squirrels eating meal worms are actually eating the I regret spending that much.
There are 5 ounces in the box! The product is a third of a pound so it isn't a full pound. My ducklings seem to enjoy It does seem, however, that they are somewhat less interested, which I am curious to find out In this case, I will buy the mealworms at TS to see if it is the mealworms they are getting bored with, or if it is the brand.
I bought these because the brand I usually buy on Amazon was out of stock, and the birds would go through them extremely quickly if I bought the other brand. There is something wrong with the brand, they dislike it for some reason. This is much bigger and a lot more smelly than the others. In the past, I had lots of birds, including woodpeckers, bluebirds, cardinals, and blue jays around here, but now almost nothing visits my sunflower seed feeder. It is not a brand I will be purchasing.
Bluebirds at my feeders lean toward this product. I use them for my bluebirds and other birds in general. There is no point in letting them touch the birds. This means they have become too dried out and tough. Unlike the dried worms I purchase from my regular store, these don't smell like they do. The next time I buy them, I won't.
It is not the birds who consume the larvae of the fly like they did with I am not sure if it is because the fly larvae are larger, as the weather is hotter, more bugs are available, or just because they don't I'll wait until the cold weather arrives and then make a judgment call.
