My mind was split between buying these planks and not buying them. For cooking implements that can only be used a few times, they're pretty expensive at $6+ each. While I was convinced that this was a significant cost, the aroma of hickory wafting from the grill assuring the most lip-smacking supper I could imagine was worth every penny You won't want to miss these lip-smacking smoky pork chops. I think that's not exactly the way it played out. Although the package said the planks could be soaked for up to 12 hours, I soaked them for four hours, since pork would take a bit longer to cook. My first thought was that's fine. To resolve the problem, I will first char the concave side of the wood, and then I will cook the chops on that side. What was problematic was that the warp prevented all of the wood from coming into After seasoning the chops for 10 minutes and cooking them for 20 minutes, there was very little charring on the plank and the chops did not have much hickory smoke flavor so they tasted like a forested chop.
