The bottom of the device should be burnt pretty badly when you are done with it use it only
It is common for the planks to become charred when grilled. You may like to char a plank, but you will not want to hold onto a charred plank since it would be messy, and you will have captured the majority of the smoke. Thanks for using the planks! I hope you enjoy them!

While they were slightly bigger (6 x 12"), these ones are 5 x 11" and I think they are a bit too small to grill salmon on. It matters a lot when you are talking about a couple of inches. The other issue is that these were much thinner, splintered, and had big holes in a few of them. The price of this was a little over 2 dollars per plank, and I would not have bought it. The brand was not what I expected if I went with a different brand next time. * Oh and they caught fire while I was grilling salmon on medium even after soaking for 24 hours. It is hot. Never have I ever witnessed such a thing.
looking forward to receiving the planks to smoke my salmon, but when i opened the package, they weren't what I expected. There was no smell of cedar or smoke. I decided to give it a shot It makes me so sad. Cedar planks are rarely good for once, I cooked salmon on them but it didn't turn out well. I did not taste anything, I didn't smell anything, I didn't even smell cedar. The scent is exactly like that of wood, and I will not buy this.

The size of this item was smaller than I expected, but I should have read the description carefully. I had to cut the salmon into portions in order to fit, but it actually cooked better if it was cut up into pieces. I have used this more than once per plank on a charcoal grill and it has had a great flavor.
