The insert, if you're talking about it, isn't hinged. There are several cooking inserts that fit in the middle space. I've used the center as a regular grill, but I've also used a pizza stone and another insert that's great for grilling vegetables or standing up fowl (using a can-shaped center insert) for beer can chicken, etc. If you're talking about the hinged grate on the sides, they open and close easily but don't completely come off the grill.
It is part of the package.
No, they're two separate pieces that hold charcoal. Put a container of water between them and use indirect heat to cook. br>br>This grill is fantastic!
It's extremely difficult to say. The diameter of this item is 21 centimeters. 5".

It fit my 22-inch kettle perfectly, and the quality was excellent; the price was comparable to that of Canada and store purchases; in fact, I saved over $20 by not purchasing it in Canada, but what can I say? We have free medical care, LOL, just kidding, nothing comes for free!.
When I first purchased this new grate, I thought it was the most brilliant idea ever. No more getting dirty fingers because the charcoal baskets are too far away. After using it twice, I've realized it has a lot of flaws. The center circle will fall into the grill if you scrub the grates clean! It irritates me a lot. They should have hinged it so that when you push on it with a brush or if it sticks to some meat, it doesn't fall into the charcoal baskets below. br>I suppose I could just lift that section and take it inside to wash it, but that's not what I was hoping for. The grate is built to withstand a lot of wear and tear. When you lift it, you can feel the substantial weight. Because it was so heavy, it tore the shipping box. I had hoped it would be ideal, but I'm starting to miss my old (rusty) one that didn't fall into the grill. br>If I come up with a better solution (other than removing the center to hand scrub), I'll update my review.
It's been over 30 times cooked on it. I really like how simple it is to add more fuel, whether through the side hinges or directly in the middle. The steel gauge is much thicker than the one that comes with your Weber kettle. Cleaning is a breeze. I think I'll be able to get three years or more out of just this grate. My purchase has made me extremely happy. There's no need to purchase the extras!.
This one caught my eye and I decided to buy it. My first brisket was smoked on my Weber grill, and it was a breeze. I'm also looking forward to using the pop out section in the middle, as I enjoy making stir fries. br> I was also very impressed by the sturdiness and design of this product. br> I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who enjoys grilling, BBQ, or smoking as much as I do.
If you enjoy cooking with a wok on high heat but don't have access to a gas stove, this is the tool for you. I mounted it on my Webber, which it fits perfectly, and I use the barbecue to generate the heat I require for cooking Chinese dishes directly on the grill. Whoever invented this is a genius, because it allows us poor souls with electric stoves to cook gourmet Chinese dishes at the correct temperature. It may require a few extra steps, but it is well worth it. A useful addition to the toolkit of any barbecue enthusiast.
To go with my vortex, I purchased this. The difference between this grate and the one that came with my 22" kettle as standard astonished me. This is much thicker steel, and it feels like a high-quality piece of work. If you're using coals, the center piece comes out easily, but it's a little more difficult to put back in. Make sure you've got a good pair of heat-resistant gloves on hand.
The grate is a fantastic upgrade for any Weber grill, and I'm very happy with the design and construction. Unlike standard or hinged cooking grates, the grate is made of much thicker steel. If you're in the market for a new grate, this alone is worth the price of admission. In addition, the hinged sides are a godsend. I had the standard static grate before, so please send for me. I like to add wood (mesquite, hickory, or pecan) to the grill after it's come up to temperature, and the hinged sections allow me to do so without having to remove the hot grate from the grill. When cooking for longer periods of time, I can add fresh charcoal to the grill without disturbing the food. br>br>My only criticism of the grate has to do with the accessories that come with the gourmet BBQ system rather than the grate itself. Some accessories don't make the most of the grate's opening. Certain accessories, such as the beer can chicken tray, appear to benefit from having the opening removed, as they would sit lower in the grate, bringing them closer to the coals and providing more height between the food and the lid. Unfortunately, most of the accessories are designed to sit just inside the opening, about 1/4" to 1/2" lower than they would be if they were simply placed on top of a regular grate. The opening, on the other hand, securely holds the accessories and perfectly positions them in the center of the grill, which is a great way to ensure a nice, even cook.
Weber grill grates don't come any better than this. The hinged sides, the removable center grate with optional inserts, everything about this piece is perfect. I bought a non-Weber stainless wok and it works perfectly with it. I'm frying vegetables straight from my garden in a stir-fry pan. This grate's steel is thicker than the one that originally came with my Weber. That one lasted a long time and was still in good shape when I replaced it. This one, I believe, will last a long time.
