Yes, this is a direct replacement for the ceramic factory grate that came with your Big Green Egg. Note that this metal grate generates significantly more heat than the factory ceramic grate; as a result, my BGE became so hot that the BGE table caught fire, and I nearly lost my BGE.

Consider the tapers to be a very inefficient funnel for removing ash buildup; I've found that it makes no difference which side is up in terms of how they work.

The original that came with my Big Green Egg was broken, and I needed a replacement. br>br>As a result, these items will eventually deteriorate. However, my original lasted several years of use, and I expect this one to do the same. It has a substantial weight to it. To the best of my recollection, it "feels" well made, just like the original did when it was new. The fit was also perfect. br>br>Apart from that, there's not much else to judge these things on. It is well-made and fits perfectly. If you read the reviews, you'll notice that these are the two main criteria used to evaluate these products. It received 5 out of 5 stars from me.
The grate's thickness was a disappointment to me. The original Green Egg grate was about 2/3 the thickness of this one. With the exception of the burrs, it appears to be well-made. They're in the middle of the holes now, rather than on the outside, so hopefully they'll last as long as the original. br>Recent changes: I used a rat tail file to get rid of all the burrs. It now functions more effectively.
This grate appears to be more durable and well-designed than the original, which was prone to clogging with smaller wood and charcoal chunks. My money wasn't completely gone, but I was irritated enough to spend it. I'm glad I took the opportunity.
5 grate for charcoal. It was delivered to me this morning. Before using it as a charcoal grate in the same kettle, I'm seasoning it in my Weber kettle. The Weber 22 is a perfect match for it. If you get the XL 17" model, you can use it as a charcoal grate. I'll update if it breaks on me (cracks).
cooker in a tank It has a beveled edge that blends in perfectly with the concave area at the bottom of the tank; a few heavy-duty layers Heavy-duty foil can be used to cover the holes in the bottom of the pan for slow cooking and to keep any fire from escaping.
This was purchased as a third replacement for two original BGE charcoal grates in my medium egg, and it looks and functions identically to the originals. The cost was a little less than BGE's. I was very pleased with the speed with which it arrived. It'll be interesting to see how it holds up over time. Heat caused the originals to warp badly. The first one actually split, and BGE took its place. After a few years of use, the second one developed a 2 inch warp. We'll have to wait and see how this brand performs.
This was purchased to replace the broken fire box grate on my Grill Dome (which is similar to a Green Egg). In terms of grate quality, I'd give it a five-star rating. This grate, however, gets clogged with small pieces of charcoal due to the hole design. Because no air can flow through the grill, it will not heat up. A metal piece with long slats, the Grill Dome stock grate. The only way I've been able to use this is to poke the holes from beneath with a coat hanger wire, which clears the hole and allows the temperature to rise. I'm going to get myself a new one.
After 20 years of use, my original grate began to deform and eventually developed a hole. It wasn't until I replaced my original that I realized how bad it was. This grate fits perfectly, and I like how the edge of the grate has a slight bevel as it is lowered into place. It's nice to see the charcoal raised back to its proper level, allowing for more air space beneath it.
