They're made of 1/4" steel and are quite sturdy. As long as you don't drop or throw them, you should be able to hold up 4" pieces of wood. Good luck
They are porcelain coated cast iron, according to the product description.

I got the idea from a home improvement show and tweaked it to fit my needs. These grates appear to be very sturdy, and their size is ideal for holding small/medium pots. They're supported by a series of stacked bricks, giving them a very clean and modern appearance (and for a lot less money than many other "plant stands" on the market). br> br> br> br> br> br> As the mood strikes, rearrange the pieces into various configurations. This purchase has exceeded my expectations.
The 4- HOWEVER, the pack is a perfect match for our CharGrill 2020. As stated in the product description, the set I received is NOT porcelain coated! It's made entirely of cast iron. There will be no coating. This is a setback, but I'm on a tight deadline and need to get the solution to work. I suppose it could be seasoned, just like any other cast iron. I'm hoping that seasoning the grill will help it cook more evenly. Grass will keep the investment from being a total loss. This is going to be great. Because they are porcelain coated, I gave them four stars. There is no coating on these. I had to use it because it was necessary. Even so, it's still a great deal. Two distinct styles can be seen in the photographs. One is coated in porcelain, while the other is not. The term "porcelain coated" should be clarified or removed from the description. The porcelain-coated ones have a more rounded shape. triangular, non-coated.
Because they're bare cast-iron, I assumed they'd stick a lot, but then I remembered that my cast-iron pans don't stick once they're coated, so I always spray or rub some oil on them. Nothing sticks to them, nothing makes them feel any worse than they did before. If you're reading this, you might want to look into Porcelain as an alternative if the price is comparable, but I'm fine with mine as is.
I don't grill very often, but when I do, I want the grates to be clean. I covered the grates with foil after about 10 years because they were starting to rust. I'm so glad I found these replacement grates. They're a perfect match for each other. There is no need for any additional foil! And now it's time to get back to those amazing grill marks.
" They were put to a lot of use and were difficult to clean. These universal replacement grates do the job well and are a lot less expensive than a $400-500 replacement grill.
These fit my crusty old Char Broil drum grill better than the originals, and work better with the original lifter handle as well. br>Heavy cast iron, the porcelan coating appears thin; we'll see how it holds up over time. br>These fit my crusty old Char Broil drum grill better than the originals, and work better with the original lifter handle as well. The best part is that they're over $20 cheaper than the original Char Broil replacement grates made of raw cast iron.
