It's possible that the drip holder at the bottom is the culprit. If the ring is approximately the same size as a 12 oz. I'm guessing that's what it is. I've never had to use it myself.
The "grill grates" on the cooking surface aren't movable. The charcole grate at the bottom, however, is not. This grill is fantastic!
Selected User Reviews For Char-Griller E2123 Wrangler 635 Square Inch Charcoal Grill/Smoker, Black
I had been looking for a grill for quite some time, so suffice it to say that I was very interested in this one. It's small enough to fit on a balcony, but not so small that it'll only fit one burger and two hot dogs on the grill. There's enough room to cook a steak, a few burgers, a few kabobs, and two corn cobs at the same time. It's made of high-quality, heavy-gauge steel, with a sound and sturdy overall design. For the balcony cookout, a top-notch grill is required. Although the construction was simple, the instructions were vague, necessitating some prior construction experience. how & It will be necessary to plan ahead of time. br>The order's only flaw was that it arrived in less-than-perfect condition. It was delivered in its original packaging - without the need for additional packing materials - directly from the manufacturer I'm sure it wasn't the fault of Amazon or UPS, but the package was battered and appeared to have been opened and resealed several times. A portion of the damage was transferred to the grill inside. With a pair of pliers and a little muscle, I was able to fix some minor dents in the grill body. The surfaces of the wood shelves have some gouges as well. All of this was minor and had no effect on the grill's ability to prepare high-quality meals. br>Overall, this is an excellent grill that is well worth the investment. This is something I plan to use for a long time.
This review focuses solely on the assembly and perceived quality of the parts. After using the grill several times, I'll update this review in a few weeks. br>The directions are dreadful. The leg/support assembly had to be disassembled twice, the first time due to my own fault - Despite the fact that the instructions did not specify which way the bottom shelf should be aligned, the drawing should have shown me. The second time, it was due to a "handedness" in the legs that was not mentioned in the instructions. The barrel will not attach to the finished legs unless the holes on the top edges of the legs are oriented in a specific direction. (Even if you don't know this part, you have a 50/50 chance of getting it right. )br>There are missing parts: The damper assembly didn't have a lock washer, and the wheel/axle assembly didn't have any washers. To finish the job, I had to dash to the hardware store and purchase those. br>However, now that it's put together, it appears to be a long-term investment, as I'll store it in my garage when not in use. After I've completed the "seasoning" procedure, I'll apply some (high heat) loktite to the bolt threads and re-tighten them. They should be tightened.
I haven't had a chance to use the grill yet, but the assembly isn't up to par. In the end, I was able to make sense of it, but there were a few snags. br>For starters, there is no indication in the assembly instructions that the crossbar should be installed in the proper direction when the base is put together. There is. I didn't notice it in time, so I had to disassemble the base, which resulted in the destruction of the wheel hub cap. br>Two, it instructs the user not to tighten any nuts or bolts until further instructions are given. This is generally sound advice, but tightening some of the nuts and bolts after the grill had been assembled proved difficult. I imagine that assembling the base, attaching the grill body, tightening the nuts/bolts installed up to that point, and then moving on would have been fine. Three, many of the bolts on the base would tighten for an extended period of time, indicating that the metal was bending at some point. br>br>The smoke stack does not seal well to the hood, which I assume will allow some heat to escape. br>br>On the hood, the label is difficult to remove. br>br>The grill grates appear to be made of high-quality cast iron, not the cheap chromed metal I had anticipated. They'll most likely outlast the rest. br>br>I'm guessing this grill will last a couple of years and will be well worth the $100. br>br>9/29/17 Update- br>A couple of days later, the hood's label came off easily. I've had this grill for the entire summer and have had a great time with it. Beef, chicken, pork, fish, and vegetables have all been grilled to perfection, and they've all been delicious.
When I contacted the company, they refused to stand behind their product and instead sent me an email with a list of other things I could do to the grates that were not included with the grill. In the end, the company held me responsible for the rusted grates. Poor business practices on their part; I like that this is a charcoal grill that can be customized with attachments, but a $15. 00 Weber would have been a better choice and would have accomplished the same goal. I completely squandered my hard-earned cash.
This grill has served me well for the past nine years. I enjoy using it and intend to do so in the future. br>br>Grilling suggestions: Season the cast iron grates in the same way that you would a cast iron skillet. br>Store the cast iron grates indoors if the grill is kept outside. Even if they're well-seasoned, they'll rust if they're left outside. When the grill is not in use, keep it covered. This will extend the life of the grill. br>br>Maintenance & amp; To make the table wider and to make it look better, I replaced the side and front table boards with cedar. Hooks for utensils were also added. br>I had to replace the charcoal pan a few years ago because the original one had worn out after about 6 years. br>It was repainted with high-temp paint a year ago. Because of the high heat, part of the bottom of the grill rusted, so I sanded it down and repainted it. br>br>I built a side firebox so I could BBQ, and it works well for smoking meat. My only complaint is that it does not maintain a consistent temperature. Every 20 minutes or so, I have to check the temperature and adjust the vents or add wood/charcoal to keep it warm.
