Please assist with the assembly! I'm stuck on step 9 of page 9 - What does the H piece serve? I'm having trouble keeping it in place. ?

Install the 3 bladed vent covers first, then reach up from the bottom with the "H" piece and install the long steel rod with the loop bent on the end. This is the handle for opening and closing the vent. When you start the grill, you open them, and when you want to cool down or put out the coals, you close them; ash will fall out of these holes. br>I found it difficult to install the "H" piece during assembly because you have to hold down the three-bladed vent cover with one hand while installing the "H" piece and steel handle with the other. I recommend having someone hold the three-bladed vent cover in place while you install the "H" piece and then slide in the steel handle to keep everything in place.

Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please Does the lid stay in place when titled to the side? I'm using a female WC and the lid is too heavy to remove, so yes, it tilts and makes my day! ?

From unknownbbq, you can buy a hinge kit separately. com, which will keep your grill's lid in place. It also has a removable pin that can be used to remove the entire lid. They aren't cheap, costing between $50 and $60.

Is it true that this model's grill grates are hinged?

One yes and three no votes have been cast. I'm not sure if I was clear in my original question, but I'm wondering if the top grill grate has a hinged section that you can lift up during your cook to add more coals. After doing some more research, I believe it is only available with the Gold series kettle.

Is it possible to replace the charcoal with something else?

I'm guessing you meant 'Wood.' The Weber (like all charcoal grills) is made for charcoal, while a wood grill requires a different design. I've heard that wood burns hotter than charcoal, but on a camping trip, we tried to roast potatoes wrapped in aluminum foil in the coals, and the aluminum vaporized! I've seen videos of professional BBQ chefs and competitors using wood to create 'quick charcoal' by burning it separately from the smoker and then loading the coals into the smoker with a shovel, but I believe they were just doing that. As a former boy scout, you prefer cooking over coals rather than flaming wood. There doesn't appear to be much of a difference in my opinion - from the standpoint of cooking- A charcoal fire may last longer and provide a more even heat than a burned-down wood fire; That is, after all, the point of choosing a fuel. In a pinch, if I ran out of charcoal, I'd start a wood fire in a pit and transfer the hot coals to the grill. I wouldn't start a wood fire in the Weber and then wait for it to burn down to cooking temperature. I don't think it would work, but perhaps someone has tried it?

I've been using Weber grills for years and consider them to be the best. Due to a lack of space, I've been using a Little Weber Smokey Joe when camping. Then I discovered that the most recent Weber 18" kettle grill has a number of new features, the most important of which is the easily removable legs for me. They can easily be removed using the "thumb push buttons. " The hand heat shield on the lid handle, as well as a grill that hangs from the bowl like the lid, are also new features. You can see how I disassembled it from fully assembled to a compact and portable grill in the photos. It took me about a minute to completely disassemble and a minute to completely reassemble. I was skeptical that Weber could improve on their tried-and-true design, but they did. You guys did a fantastic job!.

I first looked for this in the winter at Home Depot and Lowe's. They were out of stock, so I ordered them from Amazon and received them in two days. That is something I should have done from the start. br>br>I've owned and used webers in the 18 and 22 inch sizes. The 18" is by far the best; it's simply a better grill, but you can't grill a turkey unless it's been cut up first. Cooking on a grill is more efficient. Remember to use one side for searing and the other for baking when using charcoal. In comparison to the 22", it also uses less charcoal. If you have a lot of guests, get a second 18" screen. I've got two and wouldn't do things any other way. Also, gas isn't even close; you'd be better off preparing your food on the stove. The Weber 18" is the best grill ever made once again.

I've had both the 22 and 18 inch [three 22s in my life] and will never buy anything but a Weber kettle charcoal grill again. I have my smoker for anything else I cook outside. I don t pull out the 22 inch any more unless we have a gathering because it is just the two of us plus grand 8 burgers (cut up) or 2 chickens You'll have to play around with your cooking style a bit, but compared to other grills I've used, the Weber kettle offers the most consistent and comprehensive cooking solution. I believe it has a lot to do with the shape and the way it distributes heat. br>br>One thing to keep in mind about the charcoal is that once it has caught, you should use your lid to control air flow and the rate at which it burns. Because it is so efficient, you won't have coals for very long if you leave it off. br>br>A few chunks of wood on the charcoal add some nice flavor, even though this isn't a wood grill. Alternatively, if you prefer and have a longer grilling session planned, there are wood cold smoker boxes that can be placed on the cold side of the grill and used for hours. When buying a new grill, keep in mind that it will need to be broken in. Don't start the grill right away and toss your meat on top. I prefer to do a first run fire that I don't cook on, so I thoroughly clean the rack. Ensure that the rack and grill top are in place so that any residue from the manufacturing process is cooked off. Food should be safe to put on after this first run, or a first run that lasts at least 30 minutes, as there should be no residue in the combustion process. br>br>While some may dismiss this as excessive, skilled grillmasters will agree that broken-in grills and smokers are the best. This accomplishes both goals, though the latter is more of a long-term process.

isn't the only one who thinks he's better. I've had my Smoky Joe Jr for over ten years and it's still a beast that does an amazing job, but I needed something a little bigger and not table top. This grill fit the bill, and if I'm only grilling a couple of burgers or something, I simply remove the top and park Jr on the grate rather than dragging a table out of the shed. br>It took me about 15 minutes to put it together, with the majority of that time spent separating parts and pre-assembling them. br>At first, I was disappointed because I mistakenly assumed it would heat up and cook in the same way that Jr did, but on a slightly larger scale. WRONG! After about a half-hour of the chicken tenderloins remaining raw, I removed the grate, rearranged the coals from indirect to direct by placing them in the center and the meat around them, and the chicken was ready to flip in no time. br>Today was Bison Burgers and more chicken tenderloins (I'm the only one in the family who eats buffalo), and I experimented with a direct cooking method for the bison on half the grill and an indirect footer for the chicken on the other half. Both turned out perfectly, with the burgers being juicy but well done (which is one of the reasons I like bison), and the tenderloins being 170 degrees on the inside but still tender and juicy. br>I start things off with a Weber charcoal chimney, and this grill has enough underneath air draw that I can start it on the coals grate, unlike most other grills I've used, which require it to be placed on top of the cooking grate to function properly. br>Last century, I had a Genesis that lasted about 15 years and a full-size Smoky Joe that my X got in the divorce, so I'm glad Weber has kept the durability of their charcoal grills because their gas grills have gone to hell. When I cook with gas, I use a different brand of infrared, but when I can, I use charcoal. br>This grill appears and feels different from the Jr, but it will be just as powerful year after year.

Weber grills were used by my father, and they are the only brand I will purchase. It had been over 15 years since the last one. It's outside and gets a lot of use. br>This seller was excellent; quick shipping, well-packaged items, and perfect condition. I'm hoping I'll live long enough to need a new one in 15 years. 16 years. I'm 61 years old, so I'm hoping to still be grilling in my mid-70s. 😀.

For 1 or 2 people, this is the ideal size for a BBQ

This is ideal for a couple or a small group. This 18-inch baking sheet can hold a couple of baked potatoes, corn ears, and chicken quarters. inch Grill is a good size. Even though you could probably fit more items on the grill, a larger grill would provide better heat and air flow control.
