Questions & Answers

Is propane ignition rendered useless for those who use a chimney?

For the past 27 years, I've had a Weber style grill, the first of which had a stainless steel table and gas ignition. I've always used a chimney with the gas. It's a lot quicker and simpler now. My old one has finally died, so I'm in need of a new one with gas. For the past 27 years, I've used the same one at least once a week, and it's still going strong.

Is the chimney accessory still useful with gas ignition, or is it no longer necessary?

I've tried using the ignition directly with the baskets as well as using a chimney and then dumped into the baskets (or my slow n sear, which I highly recommend) and I prefer the chimney. I find that with the baskets, I need to keep the flame going and move the coals around to get them all lit, but with the chimney, I simply place it over the ignition system and leave it on for a few minutes before waiting another 10-minutes. I'm 15 and everything is as hot as I'd like it to be. Making your tank last longer between refills is always a good thing. br>In order to more directly answer your question: Yes, it's still useful, but perhaps not to the same extent as it once was.

Is the price difference between this and a Weber kettle premium 22-inch grill really worth it? (https: //www. amazon. com/weber-weber-weber-weber-weber-web 14401001- original- premium- dp/b00m/charcoal?

My old kettle (22" master-built) was 8 to 10 years old, so I replaced it. With this grill, you can get a little closer to the meat. I got a gas starter, a work table, a lid rack, a charcoal bin, and it's all on a cart with a storage rack underneath for an extra $250. I spent an extra $25 on a new cooking grate that didn't have the stupid hole in the middle. br>Does it make sense to spend so much money? I probably overpaid for what I got if I only considered the extra features versus the $250. However, I enjoy the extra features of the grill when I use it, and if I had another chance, I would pay more. What are some of my personal favorites? The starter allows me to cook in about half the time that my chimney did, and without the use of newspaper ashes. I can't tell you how many times the lid on my old Weber fell on the cement and got dinged, so the lid holder is extremely well designed. With this system, that is not the case. It's easy to use the work table.

Awesome! This grill is one of my favorites
5/5

The quality is excellent, and the appearance is stunning. From start to finish, it took me about an hour and a half to put together. It was a fairly straightforward construction process. There are so many advantages to this grill that I won't go into detail because you're probably already aware of Weber's reputation for quality. If I had to pick one flaw, it would be that there are two bolts/nuts inside the grill that pop out, making it difficult to insert and remove the cooking grate. Aside from that minor flaw, this grill is an absolute must-have for any griller.

Purchase the additional charcoal briquet holders at your own risk! I recently purchased a Camp Chef pellet grill to use for slow cooking meats and smoking ribs
3/5

Furthermore, I desired a traditional charcoal grill for cooking burgers, steaks, and other foods - things a pellet grill isn't particularly good at I chose a Weber kettle grill after conducting extensive research. The cart, table, charcoal bin, and gas lighter were all factors in my decision. br>br>It took about an hour to put it together. Although it wasn't difficult, I discovered that the sheet metal top rails did not fit well. The curved ends that fit over the tubular end frames appeared to have bent out of shape and needed to be bent back into place before it would fit properly. Fortunately, they are made of a light gauge metal, so bending them back into place was not difficult. br>br>I ordered the cover and charcoal briquet holders at the same time as the grill, only to discover that the briquet holders were already included. I was charged $5 by Amazon after returning the extras. On a $16 order, there is a 00 restocking fee. 00 item. As a result, I was dissatisfied. br>br>Once I had the grill put together, I decided to test it out for a while before writing a review. The grill's body and lid do not appear to be round, which is one of my main complaints. There's only one way I can get the lid to sit flush against the grill's lip. When I turn the lid even a few inches to the right or left, it sits cocked on the kettle's rim, making temperature control difficult. Also, the nuts that hold the lid holder to the kettle interfere with the handles on the grill grate, making it difficult to use the "cold grate" technique of searing meats with this grill, as it is difficult to rotate the grill grate. br>br>The gas charcoal starter is excellent, and having the table and cart's bottom shelf available to hold food and utensils while working is extremely convenient. I also like that the charcoal bin is included in the cart. br>br>I've seen a lot of YouTube videos on how to use a Weber kettle for slow cooking, and even though I already have a pellet grill, I decided to give it a try. I'll admit that I'm glad I got the pellet grill at this point. The temperature of the kettle is extremely difficult to adjust and maintain. In addition, the lid's air vent is directly across from the thermometer. This means that if you put the coals on one side and your meat on the other for indirect cooking, and the exhaust is placed over the meat, the smoke will pass over the meat. The thermometer will be directly over the coals at that point. A separate thermometer is the only way to get an idea of the temperature on the side of the grill where the meat is. That is probably the best practice in any case, but keep in mind that if you buy one of these and want to do indirect cooking, you will need a second thermometer. br>br>Overall, this grill was purchased for the primary purpose - cooking on a hot plate - This grill is very effective. However, if you want to do smoking or long cooks over indirect heat, you'll need to invest in a dedicated smoker.

Even though we're still the best, there's always room for improvement
5/5

I started out grilling with charcoal on a Weber kettle and loved it, but I needed more workspace. I really like the Performer Deluxe because it has a lot of work space. I won't go into great detail about this grill because it is well-known. To summarize for those with short attention spans, just buy this grill; I don't think you'll be disappointed because there's so much to love about it. The following is a list of benefits and drawbacks:br>br>Pros: br>My favorite feature is the large work surface. It's no longer made of plastic, but of texture-painted metal that's extremely durable. There's enough space to set out plates with burgers, franks, and other foods. In a matter of minutes, you can lay out your foil/paper, place your pork belly, ribs, and brisket on it, juice it, wrap it up, and return it to the grill. There's no need to walk to a work surface because it's right in front of you. br>It's a lot more stable than a kettle. I'm always worried about the kids knocking over the kettle, but this one is rock solid. When I roll it with lit charcoal, as I do with the Kettle, I'm not concerned. br>Contact Weber customer service if you have a problem. Weber is going to fix it. My first one had a broken leg support, but with a quick call to Weber, I was able to get a replacement. br>Weber is a high-quality builder. This thing is extremely well-built and well-thought-out. They are constantly striving to improve minor details. For example, when you put the lid in the holder on this model, it sits more upright than the previous model, so it doesn't get in the way as much. I still wish there was a lid hanger on the inside of the lid; see the Cons section for more information. br>During a cook, the hole in the center of the grate, as well as the hinged sides, provide all the access you'll need to your fuel grate. When I smoke, I use the snake/fuse method, and not having to remove the grate to extend the snake is very convenient. br>Charcoal lighting with a push button! This is a much bigger advantage than I expected. There will be no more ash from burning paper, lighters, matches, torches, or anything else. Simply turn the dial and press the button to get a flame on your charcoal. It also lights the charcoal faster and more thoroughly than the paper method, saving you about 5 minutes in the process. This adds up quickly if you grill as much as I do. And if you're one of those people who uses lighter fluid, STOP READING RIGHT NOW and GO OUT AND BUY THIS. br>An ash pan is a must-have, especially if you live somewhere with a lot of wind, because it keeps embers and ashes from flying around. The fuel bin is a great place to keep charcoal and an extra propane cylinder. Exceptional warranty. br> br>br>Contrary to popular belief, there are a number of disadvantages to using this product. br>The lid holder screws protrude into the kettle in such a way that they can obstruct grate removal and replacement. It's not a big deal, but it's still bothersome. br>Tool hooks on the front aren't nearly as useful as the hooks on the kettle handles. I tried to think of something I would do differently, but I couldn't think of anything. The fuel bin has no lid. To me, it appears to be a no-brainer. If there is a lid, spiders and other insects will not be able to get in, but there isn't one here. If you want, you can make a makeshift lid out of a bin liner and a bungee cord. br>On the inside of the lid, there is no hook. Since you have the wonderful lid basket, it's not a big deal, but it seems like they should have left the classic hanger hook on the inside of the lid so you could hang it low if you wanted to. I inquired as to why it was removed, and Weber stated that she had no idea. br>The bottom shelf is limited in storage space due to a bin, hanging tools, and the ash pan blocking the majority of the shelf's access. It's useful for storing accessories like rib racks and other similar items, but due to the limited access, it's not very practical. br>On the bottom vent slider, there are still no markings to indicate how open or closed the vents are. You'd think it'd be simple for them to do, and since you can't see your vents very often, it'd be very useful. Simply mark the metal with a sharpie at 0, 25, 50, 75, and 100% open. When you can't see your vent, you'll have a pretty good idea of how it's set up. The markings will not be linear due to the shape of the vent lobes, but they should be easy to spot. br>It's a little bigger and heavier than the Kettle. It's not easy to transport the Kettle to the lake. But, since the Smokey Joe excels at portability, just buy one and take it with you on your next trip. br>br>In general, my criticisms are minor and border on nitpicking. Regardless, this is, without a doubt, the best grill I've ever used. Grilling, braising, broiling, smoking, and low-and-slow cooking are all options. I've cooked some incredible meals on this grill, and I'll continue to do so for years to come because it's built to last.

The Super Bowl is saved by Matt at Weber
5/5

This isn't a review of the grill; I bought it but haven't used it yet. This review is for Weber Customer Service because there were two parts missing when putting this grill together, parts that are required to use the grill. On the second ring, I called Weber Customer Service, and a man named Matt answered, not an automated system, but a real person. When I told him about the missing parts and that I needed the grill for this weekend's Super Bowl, he ordered the parts and had them expedited in time, ensuring that the grill would be ready in time for the big game. Thank you, Matt, for your excellent service. I hope the grill is half as good.
