Positive and negative are switched, unlike every other connector. Except for my charger, it worked flawlessly for every 12v device I had. I could connect my battery charger directly to the battery and it would charge, but it will not charge when charged through this (which is why I bought it in the first place). I bought a new one (which was a little more expensive, but it worked) and it connected to my battery charger.
If you have a solar-powered RV, these plugs are perfect. If you're parked in the shade and have a portable solar panel, you can either connect it to the battery yourself or have one of these installed and wired to the battery so all you have to do is plug the solar panel in. To connect your solar panel to these, keep it as close as possible without using too much wire. Additionally, keep your gauge as thick as possible, as smaller gauges will lose their effectiveness. This plug has a wire gauge of 10 AWG, which is exactly what I need for my panel.
The connector and wiring are of good quality. It's just that the color combinations aren't quite right. It has a red (-) on it. I'm glad I double-checked. ) side and Black on the () side. To keep myself from wiring it incorrectly, I'll simply wrap it in color-coded heat shrink.
I used this to easily connect my portable solar panel to my popup camper; it was simple to mount, and I waterproofed the mounting point with some roofing putty. The built-in cables were the perfect length for connecting my charge controller directly.
Excellent craftsmanship. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the connector for reversing the polarity of the wiring had been included. I used to have to pay $13 for it. The factory plug is installed above the front hatch, so I'm installing this plug. When entering the hatch, you must always unplug and plug back in. PLUS, relocating it to the side by the hatch's bottom. This gives you an extra 3 feet of usable cord while also preventing you from tripping over it. br>I'm going to wire it backwards so that I don't have to use the adapter.
" As an inverter power supply "outlet," I've wired this with a 30amp breaker. With the included hardware, it was a breeze to put it together. The wire/housing isn't the most flexible, but it gets the job done. br>br>Be aware of the male/female (positive/negative) relationship for your application, as mentioned in other reviews. To "correct" the polarity of the plug, I wired black to positive and red to negative. br>br>I've run it at 150 watts with no problems or noise.
It's a big plus if the wire is heavy gauge. It's now installed on my 13K generator, so it'll be ready to use when I need it. Rather than drilling through the frame, I made a plate to hold it. It has the appearance and functionality of an item that was installed by the manufacturer. I purchased a second one for my lawn tractor, but it has yet to be installed. I would definitely recommend it because of the excellent quality.
For an external solar panel, I added this port to the side of my travel trailer. A solar adapter cable is also required. sae to mc4. The product looks and performs admirably, and the installation was simple.
