Although it deserves a higher rating, I felt compelled to write this because all of the one-star reviews that mention internal leaking are accurate. After a perfect summer of work, the same thing happened to mine, and it now leaks like a sieve! FIX: Remove 4 screws, open unit, notice the tube connection that is becoming separated (askew), and use plyers to squeeze the connection back together (this is where the water is coming out, most likely due to too high a water pressure from your spigot or faulty Orbit construction, or both). Use super glue, epoxy, or glue putty that hardens in minutes to keep the pieces together indefinitely so they don't come apart again. I used Home Depot's marine putty). Reassemble the unit, and you're finished. Fixed!.
The product is excellent, but it abruptly shuts off the water, causing water hammer (a loud noise that can cause pipe damage). The following is a photo of my setup: Spend an additional $10 to get the following: 660 Sioux Chief Manufacturing Co. I purchased two of these last year to use with drip hoses in my vegetable garden. Easy to program and understand. I have it sent to the water twice a day (every 12 hours) for 30-minutes each time. Minutes at 6 a. m. 30- At 6 p. m. , mins. A Word to the Wise: The majority of battery-operated water timers on the market today use an instant on plunger valve, which means your watering hoses and piping will experience an instant pressure surge, potentially damaging your water lines and fittings and resulting in leaks. Installing a "Sioux Chief 660-" water hammer protector is also highly recommended to remedy this and help protect against water hammer damage. 3/4-inch HB Water Hammer Hose Arrestor Inch" is the same size as the end fittings on a water hose. Install the Water Hammer Artester on the water timer's inlet side and you're ready to go.
When the time period was up, the unit did not shut off the water, and it continued to run for hours and hours with the door ajar. I had to turn off the water valve after turning it from auto to off failed to stop the water. I bought it on June 7th, 2017 and it is already not working properly. br>br>I will make every effort to return or exchange any defective merchandise. br>7- 17 A replacement has been sent, and we'll see how well it performs. br>br>10/17/17 The replacement outlet has now failed as well, flooding my yard with thousands of gallons of water. Since the return deadline has passed, I'm attempting to obtain a refund. I've had the two port design for a long time and it's never failed, so it must be a single port flaw.
Beware! If you set it to automatic, be aware that it may not always shut off the water. I've had this happen twice with two different units. I exchanged the first for a new one after returning the first. I'd been savoring the second one for far too long. Each time, the unit worked flawlessly for a few minutes before failing to turn off the water. One time the water was turned on for four hours, and the next time for six. br>br>Both units appear to be operational at this time - But I don't use them (the water hydrant is turned off) until I'm sure they're working properly. If you use them on autopilot, I strongly advise you to do the same!.
This unit has been in my possession for quite some time. I've installed high-quality batteries. water pressure in the normal range br>It does not always turn off. br>I only use it to perform manual tasks. The dial must be set to automatic in order to use the manual feature. This isn't an issue because the meter can be programmed to run for one minute every 14 days. So it's fine if it comes on for a minute every now and then. This has now occurred three times. ((You must leave it on AUTO to do this, take note of how I program it above. )) I'll set it to manual operation for the maximum time allowed of 240 minutes. )) and it's still running when I return many, many hours later! This caused water damage once when it overflowed the buckets I was using to collect R/O water; during the winter, I keep my R/O unit inside to keep it from freezing; if I had a reliable timer shutoff, I would use it inside. br>br>While I was away, I had to repaint the downstairs ceiling due to all of the water that had overflowed everywhere. It's a good thing it was all R/O water because it didn't stain anything.
I was so pleased with this that I purchased two more. They did a fantastic job. Because Rhode Island has moderately cold winters, I brought them in at the end of the season, removed the batteries, cleaned them up, and stored them in the basement on my workbench (room temperature). When I connected them the following year, they both broke at the piece of plastic that connects the unit to the outside faucet. The current life expectancy is possibly one year. br>br>Nice design br>br>Nice design br>br>Nice design br>b Construction is substandard. After 32 days, the item had stopped working. Electronics were not successful. On a standard 45-degree angle, this item was used in a partially shaded area. One cycle per day at 60 psi waterline br>Because the battery was low three days ago, we replaced it with new Amazon Basic Alkaline batteries. The product failed once more, and I had to replace the batteries with Amazon batteries two more times. The same result was obtained when I attempted to contact customer service; however, I received no assistance. I've just thrown away $40.
