Questions & Answers

Is it necessary to connect a water hose to each of the three bottom outlets, program it, and let it water your lawn automatically?

A digital timer is what it is. Two of the three water outlets are programmable, while the third is manual. With a source hose (water inlet) connected to the top of the unit, you can turn on the water for the two programmed outlets on the underside, and it can automatically water lawns, flower beds, and whatever else you want.

How often should the batteries be replaced?

For years, I've relied on (Orbit) or similar Orbit battery sprinkler timers. They're absolutely incredible. They are powered by two AA batteries. I've never gotten less than two years' use out of the two batteries, and some are approaching two years. As the batteries wear out, the display becomes dim, but the timer continues to function. I change the batteries at this point. What a great deal. I'll never use another 24VAC sprinkler controller.

What's the difference between Orbit and Claber, in your opinion?

I don't have the Claber, but Orbit does the job and is simple to use. I have two of these and have used them for the past two years. The only caveat is that the hose connection is plastic, so make sure you screw it on correctly or the connection will strip and the timer will be ruined. Kay

I set mine up, but the unit simply flashes through the various aspects, such as time, water time, and duration. Is this normal?

If the unit is set up properly (clock, start time, length of time, frequency of use, etc. ), When the dial is set to "Auto" and the unit is turned on, the unit flashes the current time and then the number of hours until the next watering, which is normal. You can also try to reset and reprogram if that doesn't work. A pen can be used to reset the device, which is a tiny hole in the front. If the problem persists, contact the manufacturer by phone or email. When I called them, they were very friendly and helpful.

The orbit products are essentially disposable in my opinion
3/5

This is my fifth Orbit timer, which I purchased to replace a two-year-old orbit timer that stopped turning one of the two valves on about half of the time, and one of the two outlets on this one failed in less than three months. This time, however, it would open but not close the valve (yikes!). While I was away on vacation, my neighbor texted me to tell me that my sprinklers had been on for 12 hours and that she had turned them off for me. I tried replacing the batteries when I got home, but it happened again within a week, so this has been taken out of service. I find the orbit products to be pretty much disposable; they last at most 24 months before needing to be replaced, even though they are only outside for 6 months of the year (I bring them in to the garage during the winter). br>br>I'm not going to buy any more orbit timers. br>br>Recent changes: br>br>
Orbit timers are great for 3 to months, then they fail at 75%. br>br>In the last four years, I've bought at least five different Orbit timers. Here are a few that come to mind: br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br> After a year, you can stop working. It would *click*, but water wouldn t flow approximately 75% of the time.
(this one) 2 outlet w/ an extra manual outlet - After two months, I decided to leave my job. It turned on but did not turn off. My neighbor informed me that my sprinkler had been on for upwards of 16 hours while I was on vacation. br>4 outlet w/ individual valves (includes 2; you must purchase the other 2). Within a year, two of the four valves stopped working. 2 molded units with 4 outlets each. The initial attempt was unsuccessful. Because I refuse to continue wasting money, the second one is the only piece of Orbit equipment I still own. If you expect orbit timers to last longer than a year, don't buy them.

Except for a 12 hour cycle, this is useless for lawns due to the inability to stop overnight watering
3/5

I purchased it in the hopes of replacing a non-functioning device. 4 hours of work Melnor lawn zone- timer to water the plants The timing abilities of this 2-in-1 device are impressive. Except for once-in-a-lifetime situations, zone Orbit timers are nearly useless. The two zones' day-to-day schedules are shown below. My old Melnor was set up to water four zones every four hours during the daytime only, which is crucial because using the "every-four-hours" method will result in a lot of wasted water. Watering your lawn every 6 hours throughout the day and night is exactly what this timer's "hour" option (smallest piece of time) will do. A 12- It's not much better with the hour cycle. I'm not sure if this timer was designed with sound logic in mind. Watering after dark invites mold, as we all know.

Programming is simple, but the engineering is poor
3/5

I had previously owned an Orbit watering timer. The first one appeared to be quite good; it was a single timed outlet rather than this double outlet model, (Yes, it only has two timed outlets, not three as you might think based on the pictures, and the third is a manual only outlet. ) ) The first one was only on for a few seasons before mysteriously dying. I didn't give it much thought because I liked the rest of the design: it was simple and straightforward, and it didn't require a lot of programming to make it work. So I bought this model, and to my surprise, it did the same thing, except it died after only two months instead of two seasons. That's it for me; I'm not going to purchase another Orbit water timer.

We just had a row of Arborvitae planted in the beginning of the summer in a full sun location, and they were easy and intruitive
5/5

I wanted to protect my investment because I wasn't confident that the sprinkler system was adequately taking care of the root balls. So I went out and bought a timer as well as some soaker hoses. We had a specific water schedule in mind, which was 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the evening, and this device was very flexible in that regard. I was able to program the timer successfully in a few minutes without even reading the manual. Since then, I've been blissfully uninvolved and unconcerned with the upkeep of these new plantings, which are thriving despite a severe heat wave. The cost of this unit is negligible in comparison to the investment it protects, and it has proven to be completely effective; I would enthusiastically recommend it.

I'm very annoyed! These orbit timers, single, double, and triple, have been in my possession for several years
3/5

My triples (as well as my singles) stopped working after three years. So I ordered this triple port one and discovered, much to my dismay, that it only had two timers instead of three as I was setting it up! The third port is a manual (non-timer) port, which is useless for my needs. Just keep in mind that there are no three timers on this. This is what I use for watering sections of my garden, and I need three timers! I'm very annoyed!.

It's been 5 months and it's no longer alive
3/5

Updated on August 12th, 21st: I gave them an extra star because of their warranty support; after explaining that their online store was out of stock, I was contacted right away. They were willing to get me an Amazon gift code to replace my broken hardware (Amazon was the place where I bought it originally). I'll be able to get it sooner this way. I've had it since March 2021, and it's now August 2021. This has been turned off for three days and will not turn back on. I swapped out the batteries for known-good ones, and 1. It's still not turning on with 5V batteries. When you call for a warranty replacement, you are given a gift card to order online, but the item is out of stock. This has been great for me this summer, as it has allowed me to travel while still watering the garden, but it has now come to an end. I'll continue to look for a suitable replacement. Why isn't there a good, long-lasting timer available?.

Unreliable, but good customer service; I'm changing my rating from one to four stars because of the excellent customer service
4/5

On the basis of a 6-year warranty, they are sending a replacement for my failed unit with no questions asked. I only wish I had known about the 6-year warranty when my first one broke down so I could have had it replaced rather than buying a new one. In any case, here's what I previously wrote: This item is extremely untrustworthy. After two seasons of use, one of them died; The operation of one of the valves was disrupted. In early June, I replaced it with a new one, but the electronics fried due to the fact that it was not weatherproof. The battery compartment flooded as a result of the heavy rains. When I de-iced the unit, water literally poured out. It was set up. I'm about to miss Amazon's return window, so I'll have to contact orbit support to try to get a replacement. Ugh. However, the fact that two units died as a result of two different issues does not bode well for the quality of the product.
