The origin of this item is unknown. It is extremely durable, in my opinion. The tubing is thick, and the welds are extremely strong. To aerate a large area, all of the manual lawn aerators require a good physical workout, and are better suited to problem lawn spots that see a lot of foot traffic and become compacted. Also suitable for areas of dry, hard soil. I used it to decorate my small inner-city yard. To finish it all, I needed three two-hour sessions. On the plus side, you get a good workout and can dig DEEP holes, much deeper than with a powered aerator. On the negative side, if you are not physically fit, you may not be able to do this.
The handle to the end of the aeration tines was 38 inches long, and the handle to the foot bar was 30 inches long.
Yes, but not in the rain. A week after a good rain, but before the clay hardens in the hot sun, might be the best time.

It appears to be very well built, but that is the only positive. I was excited to try this thing out, but when I did, I was very disappointed with its effectiveness. It doesn't eject the cores 99% of the time as a core aerator should. The layout is incomprehensible. It funnels the dirt into a cavity of the tool rather than out the top, as most do; I suppose it's supposed to push out the side, but it never does. It didn't change whether I tried it in dry or wet soil. I feel like I wasted my money because you could get the same result by pounding a spiked pole into the ground for a fraction of the price.
It didn't take long to notice that on one hand, it worked perfectly, but on the other, it clogged and began to only "stab" the soil rather than actually plugging it. I took a closer look and noticed that one of the "blades" had been sharpened while the other had not. The side that had been sharpened performed admirably. Rather than going through the hassle of exchanging it, I cleaned it up and ground the required edge with my bench grinder. Since then, it's been running smoothly. What I'm talking about is clearly shown in my photos. br>br>Now, I'm not opposed to doing so, but this tool is not inexpensive. I expect this item to be well-made for the money I paid for it. Except for the fact that the edge isn't sharp, it's well-made and I expect it to last a long time. I have sandy loam soil with clay underneath, and it always makes good plugs; my wife thinks I look like a machine gunner stabbing the ground. It's ideal for small areas where foot traffic has compacted the ground and you don't want to deal with the hassle of renting a machine.
This is the best core aerator on the market in terms of functionality. This thing can take some really deep cores, but you don't have to go that deep all the time, and I really like using it as a core sampler. To get the 3" or so cores shown in the photos, I simply jabbed it into the ground. My lawn after I cleaned it all up looked like the last picture of the grass with no cores. The aerator is extremely durable, and the welds appear to be in excellent condition. The grips are the only drawback I can think of. The grips don't go all the way to the end of the tubes, as you can see in the picture, and as a result, I developed a nasty blister. It's made of foam, and I'm sure I'll have to replace it sooner or later. Overall, the wait and the price were well worth it, and I am very happy with this purchase.
When I first came across this Truly Holey core aerator, I was looking for a soil core sampler. The side opening in the tines was the feature that piqued my interest the most—core samples are easily visible and accessible when removing a solid plug. br>br>The Truly Holey is a substantial, but not excessively so, weight. I have a Yard Butler manual aerator that is smaller in size and has a handle that feels like it might snap off if it gets stuck in some hard clay soil. Because the cores clogged the tines, my Yard Butler had to stop pulling plugs. It now just pokes holes in the ground, compacting the soil even more. The Yard Butler is completely outperformed by the Truly Holey. I was able to easily retrieve cores from the same location where the Yard Butler had failed. Cores were taken from evenly watered sections as well as dry, compacted areas by the Truly Holley. It didn't get clogged in the least. The Truly Holey tines easily pushed out the drier plugs that would normally clog up the Yard Butler. br>br>The price is higher than its competitors, but it's comparable to soil core probes if that's what you're looking for. Only the WELDS are covered by a lifetime warranty from Truly Holey. Overall, I find the tool to be very useful. I'm hoping it keeps pulling cores and doesn't go the way of the YB.
The tapering tubes easily penetrate dirt up to about 5 inches in this aerator, which is quite solidly built. Regardless of whether the dirt is wet or dry, it clogs after a few holes. I've tried spraying the inside of the tubes with silicone and WD40, but that didn't work, so I've taken to slamming the aerator on the ground after two holes to knock out the dirt plugs, which takes a long time. And, to be honest, I don't notice much of a difference between the parts of my lawn that have been aerated and the parts that have not. Given that I'm starting with topsoil on top of a base of Pacific Northwest clay, it's possible that my lawn will be mediocre from the start.

While there is a step bar, I find that plunging and lifting, plunging and lifting, plunging and lifting, plunging and lifting, plunging and lifting, plunging and lifting, plunging and lifting, plunging and lifting, plunging and lifting, plunging and lifting, plunging and lifting, plunging and lifting, plunging and lifting, plunging and The Truly Holey tool can also be used to provide additional "therapy" to stressed or weak lawn areas.
I know that aerating your lawn is important for maintaining a healthy lawn, but I couldn't stand mowing in golf shoes - It didn't go deep enough to reach the roots - The Truly Holey, on the other hand, was incredibly simple to use and never clogged. Drop it on a hard surface when it's done, and it'll clear out on its own. My front yard was completed in half the time I had anticipated. This is a must-have tool for any homeowner or professional landscaper concerned with the appearance of their lawn. It's well-made (sturdy) and simple to use. Amazon is to be commended.
This is an excellent tool. Steel is used in its construction. This is a fantastic grip. In both dry and wet soil, I used it. Almost always ejects plugs, wet or dry. I'm a hard worker who has spent years working for professional landscapers. I wish I'd gotten a TH years ago! I strongly advise you to watch the product video. If the soil is wet or moist, use short chops/pokes rather than stepping on the TH; plugs will pop out easily. I hope this has been of assistance. This tool has met my expectations.
