Questions & Answers

Is there a sound made when a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it?

That's correct.

Is it necessary to soak the area first?

I would only wet in the areas that are particularly difficult. There's no need to soak it if it's already soft.

No, I despise giving and even more despise receiving gifts.

AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME, A Read the fine print, it's simple to use, and it's made a significant difference, among other things
5/5

I thought I took photos, but I can't seem to find them at the moment. I wanted to do a quick review and make some notes. My parents' yard was/is extremely compacted because they lived there for years, and my brother, who suffers from OCD, would cut the grass four times a day. Every week, six times. Needless to say, I'm working on fixing up the house and selling it now, in the year 2020. Because 95% of the yard was hard compacted soil/clay, etc. , most of the yard ended up being weeds like clover and such because of the frequent grass cutting, no fertilizer, and n I bought a Sunjoe dethatcher, which I had no idea existed, and decided to manually aerate the lawn because it couldn't hurt to get some water and nutrients into the soil. br>br>EXTREMELY simple to aerate, but keep in mind that if you hit a stone or something, you may have to move one side of this tool. I'd even go through the process of stepping on the foot part and pushing one side down, then tilting the aerating tool to allow the other side to enter. Then tubes of soil would pop out of the tubes, and you'd just let them go because they'd break down quickly and you'd never know they were there. Every now and then, I'd have to use a screwdriver to get something out of the tube that had become lodged on one side. br>br>Would HIGHLY recommend, keeping in mind that this is a manual process and I did it over a few days here and there throughout the yard. Takes no time to do, works great after some rain, but I did most of the aeration holes in the middle of summer with no rain and had no issues. All told, I spent about 7 hours over three days and it's done! You don't have to go through all of the holes in a row; there are only about 1 or 2 of them. 2 ft, and in some cases 3 ft - I placed it 4 feet away from the other aerating holes I dug. Then, as the weather turned cooler, I fertilized the lawn, and it now looks absolutely stunning; the fertilizer contains iron, which I believe is the component that contributed to the lawn's development of a nice darker, richer green color.

It doesn't clog in any way. We'll see how effective it is at making the grass grow greener.

It clogs up far too often
3/5

The tool was simple to put together and well-made. However, it usually clogs without pushing up cores, and all you're doing is poking holes in your lawn, which is a good thing. I tried saturating the grass with water and spraying WD 40 into the tubes, but it remained clogged. To unclog it, I used a cordless drill with a long masonry bit, but I got tired of it and just poked holes with the core tool instead.

There is only one issue
4/5

I assembled this aerator as soon as I received it and took it outside to use it. It's strong, but still light and easy to use. I used the plug part and was able to aerate my lawn in a matter of minutes. However, the dirt gets stuck in the tube when the plugs build up in the plug maker, and I have to use a long screwdriver to remove the dirt; at first, it was dirt pushing dirt out, but after a few tries, the dirt got stuck in the tube, and I had to use a long screwdriver to remove the dirt. I discovered that after three sets of plugs, it became clogged, requiring me to stop working and manually remove the plug; I'm not sure why this is, but my next plan is to use some vasaline inside the tubes to see if this helps the plugs not become stuck. This tool would be fantastic if the problem wasn't so inconvenient!.

If you know what you're doing, this method will work
4/5

The design, as well as the build quality and sturdiness, were both lacking. The top was relatively simple to put together, but the poking screws that scratched my leg (around the knee area) were a constant source of irritation. As a result, it's not the most enjoyable or simple to use. br>Having said that, the tool performs admirably for its intended purpose. Make sure to water your lawn thoroughly the day before you plan to use it. Because if your lawn is too dry, it won't dig, and if it's too wet, the core will clog, and you'll end up digging holes in your lawn rather than pulling cores out. br>A company called Corona sells the manual aerator to Lowe's (and I assume to Amazon Fire as well). Although it costs about $8 more, the build quality is far superior to this, and I intend to switch.

I'm not going to order from them again
3/5

I spent approximately 95% of my time with this tool cleaning the plugs out of the tines with a screwdriver . I washed it several times to ensure that the tines were clean, but the soil would not pass. Although the product was simple to put together, it did not meet my expectations.

Works like a MONSTER! In total, my grass area is about 1400 square feet
5/5

In the front, there is a larger parking spot, and in the back, there is a smaller one. In front of the house, there is a brick path that runs through the grass. Renting an aerator seemed impractical given the small size of the grass areas and the obstacles I'd have to avoid, so I bought this little gem thinking it'd be worth a shot, and it worked perfectly. It made very nice plugs with no jamming and went much faster than I expected when I first used it in the front after a couple days of decent rain. In less than two hours, I raked, aerated, fertilized, and seeded a small area in the back after five days of rain, when the soil was so wet that plugs didn't form. To make the hole, the prongs simply compacted the soil. I didn't want to wait for the soil to dry out, so that was the best I could do. This is an aerator that I strongly suggest. It's worth noting that it's fairly compact, so while I found it comfortable to use (at 5'4"), a taller person may find it less so because they'll have to bend to grip the handles. Make sure you put on the bolt-covering pad; without it, your knees will take a beating, as I discovered when mine slipped down.
