Questions & Answers

What kinds of seeds and grasses are included in this mix?

I couldn't find the seed varieties, but I planted a lot of them and they did great.

In the Seattle area, is it too late to plant this mix? The weather forecast for the next ten days predicts a low of 46 degrees in the evenings and a high in the mid-60s during the day. ?

Laura, thank you for your inquiry. Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed is recommended for seeding. In the late summer, the Pacific Northwest Mix- When the air temperature is between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit, it is considered early autumn. 80°F. In the autumn, you'll need about four quarts of water. Seedlings can be established in 6 weeks if there are no frosts. Seedlings are usually killed by frost before they have a chance to establish themselves. Seeding in the spring is the second best time. It takes two weeks in the spring for air temperatures to consistently reach 60°F. For the soil to warm up enough for the seed to germinate, the temperature should be around 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperatures in the soil should be between 55 and 65 degrees Fahrenheit. The seeds must germinate at a temperature of 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

I used too much of this product and then realized I had a LOT of moss. I used a grass-friendly moss to cover the area. Will the seeds be destroyed as a result of this?

The short answer is that it depends on the type of device you're using. Most moss killers are nothing more than a delivery system for iron, which can be in the form of a liquid emulsion or a solid dissolving pellet. Iron can be beneficial to grass, but only if there is a problem with another ingredient in the mix. br>As an FYI, exposing as much soil as possible prior to seeding is a good step to take for future seedings. Scarify the soil with a power rake or hand tiller to loosen up the top layer (2" minimum is good), then mow on a low setting. Then I'd recommend a light application of plant matter compost and an all-around fertilizer, such as a 16-pound fertilizer. After that, lightly rake the seed into the soil and compost, giving it the best chance of germinating with maximum soil contact and nutrition.

Is this something that grows naturally?

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed - Mixture from the Pacific Northwest. The WaterSmart PLUS Grass Seed is a natural product, but it is not grown as an organic crop. Synthetic fertilizer and disease control are both included in this product. It isn't organically certified or listed on the OMRI.

It looks fantastic in our yard! We live about 30 miles outside of Seattle, so we're firmly in the "PNW" zone, and I bought this product to complete a full front yard renovation in August
5/5

This photo was taken 11 days after seeding and shows how well it has grown. br>br>Among the steps in my procedure were:
- To kill existing moss, remove the moss first. br>- To remove dead moss and grass, dethatch and rake several times. br>- Using Scott's Turfbuilder Lawn Soil, apply a thin layer to the lawn. br>- -spread the seedbr>-spread the seedbr>-spread Using a dethatcher, go over the seed once more to ensure it is evenly distributed. br>- For moisture retention, apply a thin layer of peat moss to the lawn. br>- Water twice a day, just enough to keep the soil moist but not so much that it puddles. br>br>This product appears to work well if you have a good growing strategy in place!.

This seed can be used for a variety of purposes with a little preparation
5/5

I see that this seed has a low overall rating, which I believe is due to a lack of preparation and adequate watering. I've used it several times to repair areas of my front lawn that have been damaged by neighborhood dogs doing their business. Clean up the area first by removing any dead grass, then plant the seed with a light covering of planting soil. This method has worked best for me. Ensure that enough water is available throughout the day to keep the area moist - This has consistently provided me with positive outcomes. I tried simply spreading the seed over a larger area (overseeding), but the results were not as good. When the need arises, I will continue to purchase this seed.

Make sure to cover the ground with more seed than you think is necessary
4/5

Overall, grass seed performs admirably; I started from scratch after rototilling my yard, and the seed filled in beautifully. The only drawback is that it must be watered on a daily basis. Covering the seed with a little dirt on top has proven to be beneficial. This keeps birds away from it and appears to aid seed germination. It grew in about two and a half weeks. The price is the only drawback to this product, but most seed is expensive wherever it is purchased. br>br>tips: Water daily, either in the morning or at night, and cover seed with a small amount of dirt.

This grass seed did a fantastic job! This grass seed did a fantastic job! After 8 days, all of my grass sprouted and continues to grow! So happy
5/5

We haven't had grass in our backyard in years, so seeing it grow now is fantastic. Before seeding and cleaning up the yard, as well as after seeding, are shown in my photos. about two weeks after we planted the seed By the end of the month, everything should be in place. So happy! br>br>Recent changes: br>br> It's been almost a month, and the grass is still growing well. To demonstrate it, I've taken a new photograph. 🤗.

This one was the most successful, as the grass grew thick and quickly
5/5

Because I was removing English ivy from a steep hillside, I needed to use ground cover to keep erosion at bay. br>I tried a few different products, including clovers and wildflower mixes, and this one was the best!br>The grass grows quickly and thickly, has a pleasing dark green color, and does not turn brown in the summer. It can also grow in poor/dense soil and is extremely drought tolerant. The grass grew after I sprinkled some in the compacted soil between my house and the neighbors, despite the fact that this area receives less than 3 hours of direct sunlight and receives no regular water. If you want a thick mat of grass, you'll need to reseed and water it. People who expect to seed once and have a beautiful grass mat in two weeks appear to be the source of the negative reviews for this product. I wish plants were like that, but they aren't.

I was overseeding my lawn, which was a waste of money and time
3/5

The lawn was dethached and aerated by a landscaper I hired. He was going to bring the seed, but I was too smart to pick this stupid seed because it said it was specially formulated for the Pacific Northwest. br>I also used Scotts starter fertilizer, the weather was in the 60s, and I kept the lawn moist. br>Despite all of this, the seeds failed to germinate. I'm extremely disappointed. I'll have to start from scratch now. I'm not sure if this is an expired seed, but I'm not going to use it again.

It's perfect for bare spots and overseeding
4/5

It's fantastic! Until the seeds begin to germinate, you must ensure that your soil is moist. In May, I watered it twice a day until the seeds germinated, which took about a week. I'll use it again in the fall to fill in any bare spots before the cold weather arrives.

One bag came from Amazon, and the other two came from Home Depot
3/5

1 bag from Amazon, 2 more from Home Depot (total weight: 21 lbs, cost: around $100). br>br>For two weeks, use new topsoil, starter fertilizer, and plenty of water. IMObr>br>-br>-br>-br>-br>-br>-br>- results. br>br>Repeated with grass seed from a local farm store. There isn't any special moisture retention coating or anything like that - a simple seed br>It functioned as expected. br>br>This product was a waste of time and money.
