Questions & Answers

What is the approximate square footage covered by a 5 pound bag?

I haven't decided yet. This is what I'm using to grow hen fodder. But I did manage to grow some in their run, which was a nice even carpet under a 3x3 screened area. I used about a quarter of a cup of the bag. I'm now using about that much per day to grow fodder inside. So, based on how quickly I go through a bag, I estimate that it will cover approximately 150 square feet. However, this is just a guess.

Is it possible to grow it in your yard?

It's not in a lawn because I haven't planted it yet. It would probably come up if you threw it out on a lawn, but it isn't intended for that purpose. There are many different kinds of seeds, and they don't last long because birds eat the seeds or the greens that sprout from the seeds. Then you're back to bare dirt, which is designed to be eaten by birds. I am confident that you can plant it anywhere and it will thrive! I plant my seeds in window boxes and let the chickens eat them once they've grown a few inches tall. It is extremely popular among them. I hope this information is useful.

What is the best method for planting?

Simply combine dirt and water in a mixing bowl. I put it in two planters so I could swap out the containers and give the plants a chance to recover between chicken chompings.

Is it required to plant it in the ground?

No, it will sprout if you soak it overnight. There is no need for any dirt.

The Chickens have scored a big victory! Sprouting is extremely simple
5/5

This is sprouting in a Mason Jar. Every time I use the sprout tray, it sprouts! & & My chickens adore it, as you can see. Excellent HIGHLY RECOMMENDED EASY WAY TO GET NUTRITIONAL GREENS IN THEM DURING THE WINTER MONTHS WITH NEARLY NO EXERCISE!.

Sprouts and fodder will thrive in this soil
5/5

The chicken has given his approval! This is a big hit with my chickens! They go crazy for this fodder even though we have a foot of snow! They enjoy digging through it (much to my chagrin, as it is only attractive until they get to it) and collecting all of the seeds that did not germinate. It's a great way to keep them entertained and get their greens in the winter. In the winter, especially if they can't get to the grass, the chickens become bored and miserable. It's so much fun to watch them eat this. I also toss them some sprouted seed, which they happily consume. Today was the third time I've placed an order. In just 5 days, it transforms from seed to fodder. This is something I strongly suggest! br>br>At first, I let it grow quite tall so that they can trim it for a few days before destroying it completely. br>br>I buy a few of the foil trays from the dollar store, depending on how thick of a layer of seed I want to put in the trays.

The cost of living is rising, but the quality of life is deteriorating
3/5

UPDATE: Similarly to another seller, the longer I keep buying these seeds, the more expensive they become, while the quality deteriorates. These appear to sprout less and have more millet seeds (which are the cheapest) rotting beneath other (fewer) sprouts. My chickens won't eat them because they emit a foul odor. I'll have to pull the greens out and spray the slimy millet roots off before I can save the greens for my girls. It takes a lot of time.

It is very simple to grow the seeds. I'm in the state of Florida, specifically in the state of South Florida. The photos were taken four days after the seeds were planted.

I would strongly suggest it
5/5

This is, without a doubt, one of the best ground cover seeds I've ever purchased. I purchased four or five other brands, all of which failed miserably. I'm not going to name any brands, but they were among the most popular. We dug up 1 1/2 to 2 inches of soil, sowed the seed, and covered it with about a 1/2 inch of soil or less. Watered twice a day, and everything began to grow after three days. It had been three weeks since that happened. It's now about a half-foot tall and ready to be fed to the chickens. I also bought another bag and began working on a new flock area. 👍👍.
