Questions & Answers
Pennington Seed has created a distinctive green coating for these Penkoted grass seeds. When used as a quick fix, Penkote, a drying green liquid, is said to seal grass seeds and protect them from fungus, which attacks germinating seeds and young seedlings. The coating amounts to 50% of the bag weight.
They have a blue coating on them.
This is a different type of grass than what you already have; I live in an area where the summers are hot and the sun is scorching for three months out of the year, but the winters are mild. This seed was used to repair and revitalize my lawn, and it did a fantastic job. My lawn is now one of the most beautiful in our neighborhood.

This is a disaster. I bought two bags, but not a single seed has sprouted. I'd like my money back because it was obvious that everything was dead.
Mine, too, failed to sprout.
I'd give it a 0 out of 5 star rating if I could. We followed the instructions to the letter, but not a single blade of grass sprouted. That's right, there isn't a single blade.
It's highly suggested! Even in the 90-degree heat of July in Massachusetts, grass grew to 4" in exactly ten days. I thatched my lawn, basically scalping it down to bare dirt, then strewn the seed thickly and watered it three times a day with a heavy sprinkler, and it sprouted on the seventh day. These photos were taken on the tenth day, and there is still some filling in to be done. I ended up needing to purchase a second bag to overseed the back lawn.
It arrived on time for my fall planting, the bags were undamaged, and I was pleasantly surprised to see new grass after only seven days of planting. Because we had so much rain after I planted the seed, I'm guessing that played a big role. But, despite the fact that it has only been planted for three weeks, I am seeing a lot of new growth up to 4" tall.
Even if you're in desperate need of assistance, Fescue is a good choice! The backyard of the house I bought needed to be completely redone. A dead tree was removed and sanded, and before planting the fescue, I spread some Scotts lawn soil. The landscapers thought I wouldn't be able to grow much, but despite the winter, my yard is recovering quickly. Make sure your soil is well aerated before spreading the seeds (I didn't use a spreader; instead, I wore gloves and spread the seeds by hand). Then, for best results, water it and cover the seed. I used mowed grass that had gotten stuck in the bag of my lawnmower. Hay has been used by others before. Oh, and find out when the best time is to plant grass in your living area/zone. The long and short of it is that this is an excellent purchase.
The seed was never sown.
In mid-October, I had a big tree cut down and the stump ground down. In late October, I sowed this seed. The seed had begun to grow and fill in in less than four weeks. By ten weeks, it had completely filled a 250 square foot area and was changing color from light to dark green. So far, I'm very pleased because I still have half of a bag left to fill in other areas of my lawn.
