This is a Sailor fountain pen converter that is only available from Sailor. It looks like all the other cheap converters out there at first glance, but it wasn't until I decided to lube it (it didn't seem to be well greased when I got it) that I realized how much I appreciated it. The converter and all of its components screw together; first, there's the metal sleeve, then the knob, and finally, there's an insert that acts as a second seal or possibly a grease reservoir if ink gets past the primary piston. The actual piston can then be removed using o rings. It appears simple but is actually quite complicated, which is the mark of a well-engineered part. I wish I could use their converters on all of my pens, as they are truly fine Japanese precision.
My bag came apart in the first use, just like some other reviews I read elsewhere (not on Amazon, but on an art site). I was able to put it back together and it now works without leaking, but 20%$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $ It's very delicate. Drawing ink is silky smooth and does not smear. I like the screw types, and this brand doesn't have a lot of options. However, after several months of use, it appears to be working. When you hold the metal bit in the middle and gently twist the top to allow the screw to draw up ink, it just wants to come apart, and it usually does. br>br>They are in desperate need of a redesign, but they are functional and usable if handled carefully.
They're perfect, and I'm very happy with them. Then I went out and purchased a small (low-priced) item. end) Sailor HighAce Neo, intending to use one of the converters I'd already bought, only to discover that only one of the three would fit the Neo! I tried everything I could to get the other two to slide onto the feed, but they wouldn't. Cartridges work perfectly on all of them, including the Neo. Nonetheless, it seemed odd that two of my three trusty Sailor converters didn't work! Oh well, they'll do nicely in my higher-end collection. Sailor pens have reached the end of their life cycle. Still, it struck me as odd, and I thought the problem with the converter and the Neo was worth mentioning.
It fits my 1911 Large perfectly, but it doesn't fit my vintage pocket pen. It's all right. For two converters, this is a good price. Everything is in Japanese, but if you don't know how to use it, a quick search on the internet will provide you with all the necessary instructions.
It can be used with a variety of inks in a Sailor Fude fountain pen. It's all good.
This converter is ideal for use with my Sailor Pro Gear fountain pen. Because of the pens' diminutive size, the converter doesn't hold a lot of ink.
My Sailor 1911 fountain pens are compatible with this converter. Although the mechanics are similar to other converters, this must be used with Sailor fountain pens because they use their own proprietary converters (the connection to the feed part is different from other converters). It's a little pricey, so it gets a one-star reduction.
Smooth and solid construction.
