Questions & Answers

Why is it that my pen has started skipping and not writing at all? I replaced the cartridge with a new one, but the problem still exists. What is the best way to clean a clogged nib?

Warren, here are a few solutions to your problem. To begin with, I've discovered that cartridges aren't as good as bottled ink. Remove the cartridge, insert a converter, and clean the pen by filling it with plain (preferably filtered) lukewarm water from a glass and emptying it. Repeat this process until the water coming from the pen is clear. If you don't have a converter, unscrew the nib, drop the entire assembly in the glass, and rinse it in clear water. Every time you fill the nib, I recommend cleaning it in this manner.

In terms of writing experience, how does it stack up against Pilot Metropolitan? Which of the two writers is more fluid?

Both pens are in my collection, and I use one of them as a backup. to a composing instrument They both have excellent writing skills and are excellent value for money. Because the Pilot is a smaller pen than the Lamy, your hand size may play a role in which one you prefer. They're both well-made pens that write smoothly.

Is it possible to replace the nib with a different LAMY nib of a different size?

Without a doubt. EF, F, M, B, and 1 are the different types of Lamy nibs. one stub, one stub, one stub, one stub 1 stub, 5 stubs There are 9 stubs that can be swapped out. The #1 is my favorite. There is one stub and one stub plus one stub plus one 5 stubs, as well as the extra flair they add to my handwriting.

What is the fine tip's "fineness"? What are the differences between this tip width and the other Lamy tip widths (extra-wide)? medium or fine)?

In my opinion, it is not a good tip. Because it's smooth and has a wide imprint, it's easily classified as a medium.

A fake product is one that is made to look like the real thing
3/5

Instead of going through Amazon, find a reputable, legitimate pen dealer. Amazon was where I got this pen. This is the Amazon's choice listing for 'Lamy,' and the order was fulfilled by Amazon (the order's seller is listed as 'Amazon. ') com Services, Inc. is a company that specializes in providing internet-related services ') This Lamy Safari is a SCAM. AMAZON IS NOT A GOOD PLACE TO BUY LAMY PENS (or possibly other pens). br>br>Because I'd never used a fountain pen before, I thought the Lamy Safari Charcoal wrote well and was enjoyable to use. However, after seeing warnings about Amazon counterfeits (google counterfeit Safaris for some good side-by-side comparisons), I had some suspicions. I double-checked with a reputable dealer in the area (Crazy Alan's Emporium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina). Despite the fact that this was a reasonably good forgery that lacked many of the telltale signs seen in other online examples, there were a few major red flags: br>1) LAMY PENS ARE COMMONLY SOLD WITH BLUE INK RATHER THAN BLACK. The first question I received in the store was about the color of the ink. br>2) The box was a little flimsy, and the logo was a little hazy. In comparison, the letter A was the most obvious - The capital letter A in the fake box has a smaller 'hole' (for comparison, the store gave me one of their extra boxes; The top box in the photo is genuine; the bottom box is a forgery). In addition, the real box was more rigid. While both boxes had a slightly ridged texture, the real box felt more substantial and sturdier. br>3) If I turned the nib upside down, it spilled some ink. However, this nib was good enough that we both wondered if it was a genuine Lamy nib on a forgery. br>4) The counterfeit pen's cap was looser than the real pen's (cap could easily be rotated while on the pen) when closed. br>5) ***Once I had a real Lamy Safari in my hands, I noticed that it wrote much smoother, was less scratchy, and was just slightly heavier in the hand, which made a huge difference in my overall enjoyment of writing with the pen. **
br>In the end, I decided to buy a Lamy AL- Instead, I purchased a Lamy Safari pen for $30 from the store (the Lamy Safari was less expensive and comparable to the counterfeit Amazon pen). It was worth the peace of mind and improved quality of life knowing I hadn't been duped. The real Safari isn't that much more expensive than the knockoffs on this list! I'm still within the return period, so I'm going back to Amazon. Even if the product is an 'Amazon's choice,' fulfilled by Amazon, and sold directly through Amazon, there is no guarantee that you will receive a genuine item. Be cautious!.

ON THE NIB, THERE IS SUPPOSED TO BE BLUE INK! All of Lamy's pens are put through rigorous testing before they are released
5/5

Because they're dipped in blue ink, your pen will almost certainly have some ink on it! However, be cautious when purchasing something. In the last year, I've bought two Safaris on Amazon that turned out to be fakes. Because Amazon's stock is mixed from different vendors, you're better off buying from a pen retailer. A quick Google search will also reveal the differences between genuine and counterfeit safaris.

This pen is one of my favorites, but it must be handled with caution
3/5

The Pen is one of my favorites. Actually, I like it so much that I'm going to buy another one. The issue here is Amazon. br>br>Amazon is the issue. I was given a "re-conditioned" pen. "Inspected" and other phrases like that. I'm not opposed to purchasing used items. at times. Fortunately, my pen was brand new (the original ink had not been punctured), but - This item was marked as NEW when it was first placed on the market. br>br>I'm a Lamy/Fountain convert, but I'm not a "hipster" or anything like that - Nice things appeal to me. Amazon sent me a box with a large sticker on it that said something to the effect of "WE CHECKED IT!" "is a load of nonsense. " crap. br>br>I've changed my original review to reflect what I received, as Amazon may replace your Pen with something that has or has not been opened at any time.

Purchase with confidence and enjoy a truly enjoyable writing experience
5/5

I've had pens that were much more expensive, but none of them come close to this one. This pen has a buttery smooth feel to it and is extremely dependable. It never leaks and looks absolutely stunning in this charcoal black. Did I say it glides over paper like butter? This pen is truly remarkable, and I can't say enough about it. However, perhaps the accompanying images will be of some assistance. At this price point, losing it isn't a big deal (unless you're particularly picky and don't want to lose such a fine nib). I don't think it's ever worth it to spend more money on a pen. Everything revolves around this pen. But, and this is a ridiculous "but"), if I had one complaint, it would have to be about the weight. The pen is comfortable to hold and easy to use. It's more of a workhorse for everyday use than a work of art (though it is stunning). This "but," as I previously stated, is a stretch - This is a fantastic pen. br>br>Warning: br>br> I've owned more expensive pens in the past, though not nearly as expensive as the eye-catching pen. When it comes to fountain pens, there are a few numbers that pop out at you every now and then. Some might argue that I haven't covered the entire range, so I can't really "benchmark" this pen's performance against more expensive models. True, but this is an exceptional pen on its own terms. If you want to know what a great writing instrument feels like, don't buy a more expensive pen until you've tried this one first.

The writing instrument is very nice
3/5

Bad cap. With this pen, I have a lot of fun writing. It's so silky smooth that just using it makes me happy. However, at least on my pen, the cap isn't very good. It does not secure itself on the pen when closed, no matter how hard I press. As a result, the cap fell out of my pocket and completely destroyed a pair of nice pants. As a result, I can't trust myself to carry it, and it's become nearly useless. It's a real pity.

What a waste of time
3/5

Is this a good fountain pen, or what? Is this for real? This is a respected brand and a fairly popular model, according to the fountain pen enthusiast community, but holy crap, I'm disappointed. I own a Pilot Metropolitan, and this falls far short in every way. The ink skips around, the plastic body has no weight or feel, and the indented grip on the barrel is placed so awkwardly for the way I write that I can never get a good grip on it. Plus, it'll set you back an extra ten bucks! If you're looking for your first fountain pen, the Pilot is a good choice. It has a metal body, a more universal grip, and is much smoother to write with. This is one you should avoid.

Is it a forgery or a rip-off? Maybe
3/5

I don't think it's a genuine Lamy pen that I got. This is a forgery. For the price, it feels cheap, and it came in a clear bag with no packaging. It's written in such a horrible way that I despise it. I have a pilot fountain, and it's like night and day compared to this. With this pen, writing is a challenge. Buyers beware: you might not be getting the genuine article here.
