This scanner is absolutely amazing. I'm always on the lookout for newer scanners, but there's not much demand for them. This one, on the other hand, fulfills my requirements perfectly. Because it is not intended for travel, I keep one with me at all times when I need to scan something. You name it, I've been to my parents' house and other places. I've scanned new and old documents, new and old photos, film negatives, and just about anything else you can think of. It's a heavy-duty machine. You won't find a better scanner at this price point.
It color corrects the reddish tints in scanned Vietnam photos from the 1970s, which is fantastic. I downloaded the CD and placed the scans in a folder on my laptop, which is connected to the internet. The performance is excellent.
This can be used to "save" a large number of old photographs, including negatives.
It really works. I just wish it had an auto feed feature so I could scan multiple items without having to stop, unload, and reload the machine.
I'm not sure why finding a scanner was so difficult this time, but I couldn't stop returning them after a day's use until I got this one.
This scanner was purchased to preserve documents and a collection of old family photos. It worked out great, and the extra-large bed was a huge help. Fortunately, I was successful in completing the task at hand. Then I had to get up and move. When I relocate, I carry all of my electronics by hand, so they've never been dropped or mistreated. After settling in, I felt compelled to scan some more. NO POWER. I checked the power supply, which appeared to be dead, which I've read is a common scanner weak link. As a result, I purchased a new PlayStation. When I plugged it in, there was no power to the scanner. PS shows that there is a voltage of 24 volts emitted. I haven't been able to find any information on this issue, so this $$$ pscanner is now essentially useless. It is not something I would suggest. Although I purchased this scanner from a different vendor, it is mine.
Silverfast was relatively simple to install on a new-to-me computer. Since I purchased the scanner (Silverfast 8 comes with it) about a month ago, I've been getting better at using it. There's only one thing that irritates me. The program is not compatible with Mac computers. It runs on a Mac, but it wasn't designed for it. It's clear that it's been tweaked to fit the bill, but it keeps crashing when I try to exit the program, etc. They're both excellent products, and I'm pleased with them in general. It's something I'd like to see happen again. Designed to work in an Apple environment.
The equipment is fantastic. Not so much in terms of software. For most scanners, buy vuescan instead of epson or canon software, which is at best iffy. Whether you're using a Mac or a PC, the choice is yours It was purchased and is currently in use by me.
