We have a great flatbed Epson scanner, but scanning photos one by one takes a long time. The Plustek appeared to be a viable alternative to Epson's auto-document feeder. It costs $600 to buy a feed scanner. My husband attempted to load the software from the CD that came with the scanner when we first received it, but he kept receiving an error. IOS 10 is installed on both of our Macbooks. Although Plustek claims that their software is compatible with Windows 15, the software would not load on either computer. My husband dialed the number for customer service - He spoke with a supervisor, who informed him that she would call us back because she had employees out or at lunch. We never received a response to our phone calls. Finally, I found the software on the Plustek website, which was a different version than the one on the scanner's CD, and downloaded it to my Macbook. After that, there was the scanning - "300" or "600" are your scanning options. " The software makes no mention of DPI or what the numbers mean. If it's supposed to be DPI, make sure it's set to that. it's not. The scanning is of poor quality. I scanned the same old photo on the Plustek flatbed and the Epson flatbed to demonstrate the differences. The images are all the same size and have the same amount of zoom. On the left, a photo was scanned at 600 DPI on an Epson flatbed. The photo on the right was scanned at 600 pixels on the Plustek. " You can see the huge difference in pixelation between the photo scanned by Plustek and the photo scanned by me. This scanner might be worth it for documents if it were only $30. However, given the poor quality of scanned photos and the lack of customer service to assist you with any issues, it is clearly not worth $200, and I do not recommend it for photos.
It saves so much time to be able to get high-resolution scans without having to crop. Scanning old photos that we've accumulated over the years will be a breeze. This is a product that I strongly suggest.
I have never owned a better scanner than this one. The scans are in excellent condition. I haven't mastered the editing features yet, and I'm not likely to do so because I already own some excellent editing software. All I wanted was a high-quality, simple-to-use scanner when I bought it, and I got exactly that. It also scans and saves jpegs of notes, cards, and special letters. In terms of scanners, it's also quite quick. I was surprised that such a quick scanner could achieve this without sacrificing quality. After both of my parents died, I inherited a mountain of photos, which prompted me to purchase this scanner. There are many priceless memories in these photographs, but I knew they would be lost forever if thousands of them sat in boxes, bags, shoe boxes, and other containers. This scanner saved my life and continues to do so!.
I was about to give this scanner five stars when I realized I had said too much. br>After scanning hundreds of photos, I discovered that the last few hundred had an orange line running down the center of each one! My apologies for not double-checking the photos as I went, but I had thousands to scan and didn't want to open each one after I finished. It takes an excessive amount of time. br>I contacted customer service, who advised me to calibrate, which I did several times until the line vanished. br>Fast forward two days, when the scanner abruptly stopped scanning and only produced pictures of lines. I called customer service again, and they used Team Viewer to remotely connect to my computer and determine that the scanner was malfunctioning. As a result, I had no choice but to ship it back to Amazon. com. br>New scanner arrives, and every tenth or so photo now scans with a large black band on one side; I recalibrated several times, it worked, and then it started producing the band again; I recalibrated several times, it worked, and then it started producing the band again. br>The bottom line is that while the machine itself appears to be excellent, the software is HORRIBLE. I'm devastated, and having 10% of a thousand photos scan with a black band on one side means I'll have to rescan 100 of them. br>They'd have a great product if they could fix the software, but based on my bad experience, I can't recommend it. br>br>**ORIGINAL REVIEW*
I cannot praise this scanner highly enough. I had my heart set on the Epson FastFoto, but at nearly $600, I couldn't justify the purchase. With a few minor differences, you can get a scanner that is nearly identical for $200. Yes, there is no automatic feeder, but putting the photos in one by one is a simple process. You could even hire a child to help you with it. That's all there is to it. So far, I've successfully scanned nearly 2,000 of my 9,000 prints. Because the machine only scans one side of your photos, if there's something important on the back, scan it! br>Because my photos are organized by year, I simply create a new folder for each year and save them there. It's an easy procedure to follow. I scan at 300 dpi, but if I come across a particularly interesting photograph that I might want to enlarge in the future, I simply increase the resolution to 600 dpi. br>I was having trouble getting the software onto my computer using the CD, so I went to their website and downloaded it. There's no issue. The software is functional, and you can even use it to edit your photos. br>I would highly recommend this product, and I am confident that I will be able to scan all 9,000 of my photos without any problems.
