Questions & Answers

I need ink for my HP 640 fax machine, but I don't know where to get it. ?

Online at Staples or HP

The cartridge was swapped out. A blank copy is printed by the printer. I'm not sure how I'm going to get this sorted out. ?

Reset your printer by going to Setting, Devices, Printer on your Windows PC and/or Setting on the printer itself.

How do you load an ink cartridge into a fax machine like the HP640?

It's pretty straightforward. In the front, there is a dropdown door with the word "Brother" written on it. The paper loading area can be accessed by gently pulling on the top of the door.

There's a USB port on it, I see. Is it possible to connect it to my computer and use it as a printer?

No, the USB input cable is intended for saving documents to your computer rather than printing from it.

Great facsimile machine, which replaced an HP fax machine that had been fried by lightning
5/5

I went to a few different business supply stores and discovered that none of the newer models had the features that my boss was looking for in this older model. In addition, all of the newer models took up more space on the desk. It performs admirably. The only maintenance required is the replacement of the ink cartridge when it runs out. That isn't something that happens all that often. HP must continue to support this model. hint hint hint hint hint hint hint hint hint hint hint hint hint hint hint hint hint hint hint hint hint The product was shipped in a double box by the shipper, who was prompt and did exactly what was described.

At this price, it's acceptable; I've had this fax machine for a week and it's working well
4/5

This fax machine is intended for use in a home office setting. I send one or two faxes per day with it. If you do a lot of faxing, I strongly advise you to invest in a more professional fax machine; the main benefit of this fax machine is its low cost. br>br>I have two complaints about this fax machine: first, it uses the HP 701 ink cartridge. It's not easy to find this ink cartridge. You must visit an office supply store or HP to obtain the necessary supplies. To buy it, go to www. com. This ink cartridge, by the way, isn't inexpensive. Second, if you're sending a multi-page fax, you'll need to stand there and feed the pages in one at a time; otherwise, the fax machine will grab two or three pages at a time, forcing you to stop the fax and start over. br>br>Overall, this fax machine has met my expectations.

The price was reasonable, but the process was overly complicated

Review of the HP 640 Faxbr>br>First and foremost, let me state that I am a fan of HP, or at least was until Carli Ferini, whats-his-name, came along. her- The company was run into the ground by a man with the same name as the company's founder. br>br>HP is the manufacturer of all of my computers, printers, laptops, cameras, and other electronic devices. I chose them because of their excellent customer service. br>br>Since the HP All-in-One Printer, (Is there a one-size-fits-all solution?) ) machine died after only two years, so I bought this HP 640 in the hopes of finding a simple, easy-to-use, low-cost fax machine. br>br>Well, it was low-cost, but it certainly isn't simple or easy to use; six months later, I'm still having trouble getting it to work properly. br>br>The instructions, which are 66 pages long for God's sake, are confusing, contradictory, and, in one case, completely incorrect. You should fax the copy face down, not face up, as the directions state. br>br>Unlike the two previous fax machines I've had over the years, I can't get the machine to work with an answering machine. It's just not going to work. It either listens in on phone calls or fails to respond when it is supposed to. br>br>At long last, I was able to get it to stop printing a confirmation sheet after sending a fax, but the instructions are contradictory and confusing once again. br>br>Hopefully, this model is no longer available, but in the event that it is, I wanted to warn others to avoid making the same mistake I did. When this one dies, I'm not going to buy another HP. When all I want it to do is send a damn fax, why do these people feel compelled to add feature after feature to a simple product? Even in this inexpensive machine, the programming takes hours, literally hours, and the options and tricks seem endless. br>br>My first fax was a Panasonic that worked faithfully for ten years until the electrons were depleted by a cross-country move. I'm on my second one in a few years and I'm still not happy with it. Who needs them, just like who needs these new cell phones that require a master's degree in programming to use? I only want to send and receive simple faxes in English, not French, German, or Japanese. Not at 2 a. m. , but now: It's 30 a. m. on the coast. br>br>For the love of God, why do they make such complicated garbage? I suppose it's because we suckers unwittingly purchase it.

My wife needed a decent fax machine for her business but didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a high-end machine because her fax volume isn't very high
3/5

We thought this one would be perfect, but we couldn't have been more wrong. This machine has caused a slew of issues. First, the print quality was poor from the start, but we were willing to put up with it because it was less expensive than other fax machines. Then one of the settings for having the machine automatically respond to incoming faxes stopped working. It simply did not answer incoming calls. We had to change it to manual mode, which requires us to pick up the phone, determine that the call is a fax, and quickly press the fax button to inform the machine that the call is an incoming fax. This was inconvenient to say the least, but we managed to work around it. After a month, the machine stopped producing anything but blank white sheets of paper, both for incoming faxes and copies. We were told that the problem must be a clogged ink cartridge, which they said "can happen," despite the fact that it was only four weeks old and had hardly been used, after spending hours on the phone with technical support trying one thing after another. We had to spend $25 on a new cartridge, which solved the problem but left us wondering how long it would take for the new one to clog. After a while, the fax machine began producing only half of an incoming fax. br>br> It would only print the first five pages or so of a ten-page incoming fax. Except for the fact that the second half of the faxes was always missing, there was no error message or indication that anything was wrong. When the faxes were sent to a neighbor's machine, they arrived in perfect condition; however, on outbound faxes, recipients began to claim that they had never received the faxes, despite the fact that the machine claimed they had been sent. The faxes sent from the neighbor's machine went through without a hitch. br>br>This fax machine is now unused because it can't be relied on. We're borrowing our neighbor's Brother fax machine until we can afford our own. We will never buy another HP because it was such a waste of money.
